I have now been working with Rich and the PMPT crew for almost 2 years. When l started I couldn't get up from the ground without effort. I labored through 2 minute "jog"/walk intervals. I was very unhappy with my health. My goal at that point was to some day do a triathlon. Some day . My last review was 6 mos into working through personal training. Since then I switched over to group training. I do at least one class a week. Well, I did achieve my triathlon goal. In August 2015 I did my first sprint triathlon. In October my first Olympic distance tri. In December my first half marathon. Then this past October I completed a half Ironman! Over this time I have not had any significant injuries. I have consistently been able to set higher goals and meet them. These changes happened because of the culture of fitness I was introduced to by PMPT. We've always focused on form and discipline. It's never been about higher weight, more reps, or any degree of competition. I learned the value of slow, incremental gains. Let me also preface that this is all completely new to me. I had never been an endurance athlete nor a gym head. My time with PMPT represents the most significant period of fitness in my life. Ive never done anything like this before and I know I would not have if PMPT hadn't been part of the shift in my culture. In March my first Marathon awaits. Then the full Ironman calls...someday. I know that PMPT will be part of getting me across the finish line. read more

This is a gym unlike any else I have been to. For starters, it feels more like a family, not corporate at all. They don't charge for towels nor are you required to sign up beforehand. The trainers are super approachable, friendly and excited about fitness. I love all the outdoor activities they offer such as the stair group, trail running and foundation. It's nice to have that community feel outside the gym. I have been going to see Rich for years and he keeps getting better and better. Classes usually start with a warm up, dynamic stretches, some cardio and or foundation. That takes about 7 minutes and the remainder of the class is dedicated to the workout, usually intervals, but he does switch it up quite a bit. If you are looking for longer periods of cardio I would try one of the classes offered on the weekends, such as the stair group....that's a killer workout. I love the variety of classes ranging from mobility and foundation to intense interval training and strength. This is a small gym and there no showers that are offered at the larger gyms, but it's not intimidating, they offer reasonable prices and everyone from the trainers to the members are super friendly. Give it a try!! read more

Rich Edgren is the greatest trainer in the Bay Area! His focus on injury-free, functional natural movement is timeless for all levels and ages and abilities. His compassionate and non-judgmental approach leaves me feeling empowered and good about taking care of myself without getting hung up on superficial appearances. At the same time, his workouts are efficient and holistic, which get more results in less time. I almost fear my review because he is so far the best kept workout secret around here. At the same time, I so strongly believe in his approach that I want everyone to do this instead of all of the workouts they are doing that aren't working for them....so I'm willing to give away my secret! And I welcome meeting new friends and building community! read more

Rich is one of a kind, and he has been a real lifestyle changer for me. Rich has excellent fitness programs based on individual needs, he pays special attention to any injuries, and he even shares his nutritional knowledge. Rich always has a positive attitude and is flexible. His encouragement has shown me that yes, I can do those exercise I didn't think I was capable of doing! He focuses on you and your goals. He switches things up and always keeps it interesting. Throughout the years, I've had several personal trainers and NONE of them come even close to the personal attention and the real results I have since training with Rich. I am very fortunate to have met him and have him as my fitness trainer. read more

For the majority of the last 10 years, my experience in a gym setting was that of most corporate "big" gyms. A bland, dull, and relatively non-challenging workout that was self-prescribed as I attempted to fight for machine use and dodge the other droves of sweaty, headphone wearing zombies. I was looking to shake up my fitness routine and was recommended to go to Perpetual Motion Performance Training. PPMT has been a life-changing fitness experience. Their staff has been exceptional at teaching me new ways of exercising and moving. My entire body became stronger and better-coordinated. Their class selection is well-rounded and has accessible hours. The small class sizes allow for personalized attention and coaching. I have never received as much feedback and instruction other than personal training sessions. The community is very supportive and fun to be around! If you are thinking of PMPT, be prepared to move, sweat, and have fun! read more

I was a dancer for over 20 years, so although my stance was proper in dance class, it wasn't at the gym. I walk with my feet out and trying to correct them to workout properly is a struggle. I met with Elyse privately and she showed me moves that would help and were specific to my needs. No one has taken time to help like Elyse did. She was even kind enough to write it down so I can practice at home. I would highly recommend Perpetual Motion Performance Training if you're looking for a gym that works around your needs and takes the time to show you exercises that work for you. Thank you! read more

Cannot say enough good things about this gym! One of my biggest roadblocks to working out at a typical gym was the judgement and people "peacocking" around shooting daggers and side eye your way. But this place welcomes people of all ages, sizes, fitness levels, and backgrounds and offers just the right amount of challenge so you see growth personally and physically. Rich and Elyse - the trainers - have so much love for one another and a love for fitness that it is directly poured into their classes and the clients of Perpetual Motion. Good vibes, always. They struck a perfect balance between group classes and individualized attention so you can perfect your form and consistently push yourself. The facility is always clean. Super convenient location right off the Olympic freeway exit. Perfect gym for someone of any age or skill level looking to grow personally, mentally, and physically. These classes will kick your butt but coming from someone who used to dread the gym, you won't want to stop coming. Highly, highly recommend. read more

I came to see Elyse because as a competitive athlete and tennis player, I was having aches and pains in my knees. Elyse gave me a series of warmup exercises that has resulted in me not having as much knee pain. I feel stronger as I have been strengthening the muscles around the pain point. I also feel more relaxed and confident moving around the tennis court no longer fearing pain. I even show my other tennis buddies the exercises and they love it. read more

I cannot say enough good thing about this place and all the trainers. All the trainers especially Rich are very encouraging. They constantly create fun and butt kicking workouts. They are always watching for form so that you get the most out of your workout and more importantly don't sustain an injury. The class size, attention to detail and fun workouts make this a great place. If you are tired of doing the same workout over and over again, give this place a try. You are going to love the workouts, I guarentee it. read more

I am so excited to see Rich branch out on his own ... and closer to me :) I have worked out with Rich for three years - both one-on-one and in group settings. He makes working out fun (did I really just say that?!) and knows when and how hard to push you (for me, I changed my abilities on a weekly basis ... based mostly on my moods which he saw right through). His group trainings and stair runs are perfect for anyone as you aren't made to feel like you're the slowest/worst/most out of shape one in the group - everyone works at their own pace and ability and the other people in the group aren't paying attention to you because they're wrapped up in doing their best too. The groups are always welcoming and a great way to start your day/weekend with a great group of people! read more

I use to take Rich's classes at another gym that he worked at and when I heard he was leaving I was so sad. However, he opened his new place Perpetual Motion, and I was so happy. Rich's style is very unique and his classes really incorporate the whole body. His emphasis on community and forming relationships with everyone is one of the many reasons I keep going back. You cannot get this at most big gyms. The stairs groups on Saturdays are such a good work out and it gets everyone out at various locations together. They are challenging, but also very fun! Go take a class and become part of the growing community! read more

Where do I start? I too used to take bootcamp classes with Rich at a previous location. When he opened his own gym, I went on a mission to find him. His is a knowledgeable, attentive trainer focusing on form, functional movement and injury free fitness. Rich takes time out of his day to make sure you are achieving your fitness goals while focusing on any troubles you may be having. Recently, I was having difficulties with my shoulder. After class, Rich went out of his way to guide me through some movements I can do at home to help correct the issues. This was just one example of how he goes above and beyond to help his clients achieve their overall goals. I would recommend Perpetual Motion to everyone. Thanks Rich for all that you do! read more

Starting workouts with Perpetual Motion, was the best thing I have done this year!! This time a year ago, I dreaded pool parties and now I spend weekends in the pool or in shorts! Plus I am stronger, getting toned and love the classes several mornings a week!!! I can only say wonderful things about Perpetual Motion and am very thankful that someone recommended them to me! read more

Perpetual Motion is my "happy place". Elyse and Rich are wonderful people as well as exceptional trainers. They have integrity in the way they train, and provide personal attention to each member. The foundation training I've received has helped my overall strength, balance and posture. The classes are varied and never boring! This is not your run-of-the-mill body building gym. This is a small, training "studio" with all of the equipment needed to build strength without big 'ole machines! The best part is that the owners/trainers Rich and Elyse seem to have a personal investment in my success and are truly sincere about helping me improve my overall health. read more

I came across this studio through a groupon deal and I am so glad I did! I was in town visiting for the week so wanted to take some classes while I was up here to stay active. Rich and Michele are so awesome and I have to say their classes are the best I've ever taken!! Thank you guys so much and I will definitely come back on my next visit up here read more

I am an avid Step It Up attendee and it has transformed my endurance along with my weekends. Rich and Elyse's beliefs around fitness and community fall in line with what I envision for my life and their energy provides great fun for the class. The classes are challenging but also filled with laughter which is a testament to how their gym is run. You know you can always find variation with your work outs, learn something new, challenge yourself and also find kind, fun people. The Step It Up classes improved my endurance so much that now I am training for my first 10K run and I am able to push myself further in my other work outs. The classes are helping me reach the next level in my fitness goals which is lowering my body fat, creating more definition along with improving endurance. read more

This gym is great!! Elyse came all the way to Pleasanton to give my husband and I a private foundation training in May 2017. I learned so much about stretching and proper form when doing the foundation pose. I highly recommend for strength training, core work and proper workouts for your body type/needs! read more

Rich is the best of the best. I've had the pleasure of taking his classes for almost 3 years and he's still kicking my booty. Even if you're in a group class with Rich it feels like a personal session because he's constantly checking your form. His slight modifications make the exercise much more efficient and my body much more "happy sore" the next day. I can't recommend him enough! read more

Perpetual Motion is one of a kind. I used to workout because I had to and I knew it was good for me, but I never liked it. Now thanks to Rich I love working out and I I hate to miss a day! He kicks my butt and makes me want to throw up and die sometimes, but I keep coming back for more:) There are several classes to choose from. Try them all and find your favorite. You won't be disappointed. You will be pushed super hard and realize you are stronger than you had ever imagined. I feel the best physically and mentally that I have ever felt. The trainers here amazing at what they do. They are sticklers about your form being perfect. They listen to any pain you may have and make adjustments to your workout so you don't hurt yourself anymore and even try to make your pain go away. They are very well educated and truly love what they do. Thank you Perpetual Motion!! read more

I have belonged to a number of gyms and attended hundreds of classes and by far, the boot camp classes with Rich are the BEST! Rich is really one of the most awesome trainers I've ever had. He is not just a personal certified trainer on paper but one that has years of experience. You benefit from his extensive knowledge in fitness, his leadership, motivational and people skills. His natural ability to train gives you confidence that you will reach your health and fitness goals quickly. You will be challenged and pushed beyond what you think you are capable of. You build endurance, strength and mental toughness! read more

Perpetual Motion has completely revolutionized my work out routine. As someone who is easily bored and unmotivated in the typical gym setting, I've found myself continuously motivated and excited to come to classes with Elyse and Rich. After only a month of membership, I already feel stronger and that my endurance has significantly improved from from their challenging and dynamic classes. Would recommend to anyone! read more

Been going to their stair climbs with Elyse & Rich for a couple years now. I absolutely love the personal one-on-one attention that you get with these guys. They're both really educated in physical anatomy, and this is super helpful with correcting form, posture, and stretching. I'm personally not the fastest runner in the world, so I'm really thankful that Elyse is there to run beside a slowpoke like me while the speedier members are up at the front with Rich. The challenges are really scaled to your personal needs- Rich is really awesome about modifying certain exercises to make up for my lack of upper-body strength and weak knees. And at the end I still feel like I got an awesome workout! Thanks so much guys. read more

Such an awesome place to train and rehab an injury. Rich and Elyse are so knowledgeable and truly have helped me become strong again after a terrible disc injury. I am always confident in their ability to keep me safe while pushing me to the next level. Not to mention they are just stellar people who really care about helping others feel good and creating an awesome community. I love my workouts here! read more

This place is the best cross fit gym around, its nice to work with a trainer that isn't texting their friends while their supposed to be paying attention to the clients!! Five stars easy!!! Rich really mixes up the workouts and they are no BS workouts! They have a very professional attitude when it comes to a workout session, and he plays great music during the session! read more

I can only describe Incredible, as to my experience. I am recovering of both Heart failure and a stroke. I was lucky in gaining almost 95% of my stroke. After spending 8 months on my ass, Rich is tailoring my re-entry to working out. The core structure he has developed me is to concentrate on my returning to OCR racing. If I had been studying his planning, I can say I would have saved myself from injury's in the past from my return and how I trained the last 35 years. This is a basic great gym with a true small class. read more

What I love about Elyse and this gym is their "functional fitness" approach and meeting the needs of every fitness level. Elyse was really helpful teaching me strength training exercises that I can do with weights or with no equipment, depending on where I am and the space I have. They offer personal training, as well as a variety of group classes. You can go to a class for free to check it out. I highly recommend Perpetual Motion! read more

Love this place, the folks that run it and those that go there! Great workouts and motivation while still having fun. Small, semi-personalized setting that gives you a push when you need it and knows when not to push if you need that. read more

Perpetual Motion is a great gym! There are many different classes and types of exercise to choose from. I particularly enjoy the circuit training class. The class starts with a warm up, then the circuit which is usually made up of about 8 stations. Stations can be adapted to your needs or any injuries. The class ends with a cool down and stretching. I particularly like the class type setting at Perpetual Motion because it helps motivate me. I always walk out of Perpetual Motion feeling more energized and satisfied from the amazing workout! read more

I have had a dislike hate relationship with my big gym franchise. I felt a little lost. I am going through a ton of physical changes so I need a trainer that treats me in a range from push me to pity me. So I set a personal training session with Elyse. Seriously the best move of the month. From start to finish I felt in control while she guided me with her knowledge and experience. I am getting over a knee injury and she was attentive about it, but in no way did she focus on it as a weakness. She put me in control of how it was feeling as opposed to either babying me or trying to break me. I am so appreciative of that. I can only speak for myself; however if you have some health problems you want an opportunity now and again to go beyond your normal capability. To push yourself like a healthy person would. So when I added some reps she just let me do it. It felt awesome. First time I have felt normal physically in over two years. There was no yelling or screaming, it was a cooperative session of her sharing her vast knowledge of how the body moves and how it's affected throughout the workout. If you have some injuries, if you're overweight do not lock yourself in a tower; you have the right to try and fight for the health level you want. Elyse and the rest of the crew at perpetual motion can help you if you're in amazing shape or a wreck. Give them a call and don't forget to say hi to Frank. read more

Rich has done so much for me over the past 5 years that we've worked together that I get a little emotional trying to write a recommendation that fully encompasses my experience. Working out does not come naturally to me, and my 47 year old body does not always naturally want to do what I'd like it to do. Rich has developed a program for me that keeps me fit, motivates me to progress, and helps me feel great almost all of the time. His workouts are fun and challenging, yet manageable. He seems to know exactly how hard he can push me on any given day. We listen to great music. He uses great equipment, but understands that some of the best work outs don't require a lot of equipment. He focuses on functional training, not just brute strength. When aches and pains come up he patiently and skillfully works through them. I am a physician, and can say unequivocally that he has a better knowledge and understanding of anatomy and body mechanics than most of my colleagues and I do. Most of all, though, you should know that he is one of the kindest and friendliest people I know. He is passionate about health, fitness, and nutrition and shares that passion enthusiastically with his clients. He is patient, encouraging, flexible, funny, and truly cares about his clients. He is constantly learning and integrating new techniques into his practice. I feel so fortunate to have him as both a friend and a trainer. Thanks, Rich! read more

Rich Edgren is a highly qualified personal trainer in addition to having a "second-sense" about what his clients need. He knows when to push, when to back off, and when to scrap the "plan" for the day to provide the "right" workout. I didn't have any specific goals when I first started working with Rich 10 months ago, only to improve my level of physical fitness. I had just returned from a fairly demanding outdoor vacation and was looking forward to an even more rigorous one. I knew I would enjoy my travels more if I were in better shape. As an older adult with an orthopedic injury, a troublesome neck/back, and some arthritis I was facing some limitations on what I could do, how I went about it, and what the ultimate outcome would be. Rich has been very sensitive to my physical needs and abilities (or lack thereof). My strength has improved, my balance and agility are better, my back problems are almost non-existent, and I have a new outlook on taking on challenges I wouldn't have considered a year ago. A byproduct of this increased confidence in myself has been conquering my biggest fear: heights. With Rich's encouragement I have been able to overcome my severe acrophobia, which allowed me to enjoy zip-lining and suspension bridges in Costa Rica. My new year's resolution "Say Yes before No" has opened my world to many new possibilities. Rich is truly a champion for his clients, takes personal pride in what he does, and takes ownership of his clients' successes. It would be nice if Yelp had a 10-starr rating! read more

Rich is Amazing!! I've worked with him for over two years and it has made a huge difference in my life. I feel stronger, healthier, and happier than I ever have before. He is super supportive and flexible and really pushes you to reach further and to achieve more than you thought you could do. He is great at tailoring workouts for individuals, and he really knows what he is doing! I can't rate him high enough!! read more

Rich and Elyse make fitness fun! A few things I love about Perpetual Motion Performance Training are that the workouts are challenging, yet fun. They plan great workouts for their regular classes and they also offer really fun adventure classes such as doing a stairs workout outside at a different East Bay location each week. Every Friday morning there is a wonderful outdoor workout that realigns and resets the body, mind and spirit. This workout includes a beautiful sunrise too! I also appreciate the great sense of community that Rich and Elyse cultivate. Perpetual Motion Performance Training is a place to get fit, have fun and build new friendships. Check them out - you'll be glad you did! read more

Rich has been a creative support in my fitness goals for the last two years since my friend recommended him to me. I really like his new studio. He has a terrific interest in body mechanics has shared his knowledge and has been able to function as a physical therapist in my life-- no cookie cutter classes -- everything is custom designed to the client's specific body strengths and needs. He is constantly studying and expanding his teaching certifications. I have taken group classes and individual training sessions and each are terrific. I highly recommend him and his work. read more
