I have never left a review for any establishment, business, etc. But after the phone call I just had with Dr. Perlmutter's office, I felt compelled to share the appalling rudeness and unprofessionalism with the Yelp community.
After thorough research of dentists who accept my insurance, I chose to go with Dr. Perlmutter. I called to schedule an appointment as a new patient. The first question I was asked was when was my last dentist visit, and I responded that it was about 3 months ago. I was then asked what is my insurance provider. The receptionist told me to hold on while she talks to Dr. Perlmutter. When she came back, she said they cannot schedule an appointment, because my insurance provider will not cover another dentist visit until 6 months have passed from the last one.
Now for the record, before contacting Dr. Perlmutter's office, I called my insurance provider for that very reason. I was assured by several entities there that due to a shift in companies, I could schedule another dentist visit before the usual 6 month time frame. I was even given a reference number confirming this information.
I told the receptionist that I already verified everything with the insurance provider and that I would be covered. She put me on hold again. She came back and said "Dr. Perlmutter still said no. Come back in 4 months."
I was very confused and taken aback. I asked the receptionist, "How could he just say no? Shouldn't you at least want to contact the insurance provider and verify the information on your own? I'm happy to give you the reference number they gave me." The receptionist simply repeated that Dr. Perlmutter will not see me.
I then asked to speak with Dr. Perlmutter directly. I thought perhaps something was being lost or misunderstood in translation. The receptionist told me to hold on, then came back and said Dr. Perlmutter is busy. I said "Okay then can I leave my name and phone number, so he can please call me once he's free?" This time she did not bother to put me on hold. She responded "Dr. Perlmutter said to go find another dentist. And now he's telling me to hang up."
I tried calling back, but they did not answer, clearly recognizing the phone number and choosing to ignore it. I called again from another number. The receptionist answered. I told her to tell Dr. Perlmutter that I will stop by the office in person this week to express my disappointment face-to-face with him at how baselessly disrespectful and unprofessional he was. The receptionist simply laughed and hung up.
Again, this was my first ever review. It took an inordinate and unsubstantiated amount of unprofessionalism to motivate me to write this. I hope that it at least allows some of you to avoid experiencing a similar situation with this office.
I will update this post with what transpires from our face-to-face. read more
