We went in for breakfast while my husband's car was being serviced at a dealer nearby. We were welcomed as soon as we put a foot in. Very friendly and attentive staff. The smell of all the baked goods opened our appetite as we came into the lobby. Everything looked sooo good. The place was busy but we were seated quickly. We've been here before but it's been a while, and it was even better than before. I had the Granny's Country Omelette and thought of having toast until I was told I could have one of their muffins. The Banana Nut Mammoth Muffin was sooooo good! It was served warm with butter. I couldn't ask for a better choice. Thanks to the server for his suggestions! Just what I didn't know I wanted but did. I've ordered a lot of food from Perkins on North Oak in Kansas City in person and on Doordash as I am disabled. But never again. I ordered the grilled whitefish and shrimp with rice pilaf, but the rice pilaf is missing. I called the restaurant and they informed me that I didn't pick the rice pilaf as a side. But, there is no option to select it as a side. Also I ordered the cajun seasoning but the seasoning was about 5000 decibels higher in spice than any cajun that has ever been on anything ever. Also the shrimp was ice cold anyway and the asparagus was mushing and impossible to chew, meaning that it was not only impossible to eat, but it was also really old (as in not at all young and fresh). Absolutely disgusting meal and they were incredible rude on the phone. I will never order anything from Perkins again and they have lost my business forever. read more

What a wonderful breakfast stop!! This place feels like the way Saturday mornings feel. Quiet,yet busy, with a sense of calm that makes the speed the food arrives a bit of a surprise. The service was quick and the food was delicious!! As a fan of all things brioche my wife had to try the French toast which she said was to die for. It was so good she wouldn't even let me try a bite. And a biscuits and gravy fan I had to indulge in their version of the famous concoction. The sprinkle of cheese on top of the gravy really added to the flavor of their version of the dish. If I could give a critique it would be to add more gravy. My party of three went in on a Monday evening about 6:35pm. There was about 5 tables with people. They were not busy at that moment. We were the only party waiting to be seated and had to wait. Once seated it took a bit to be acknowledged. Drinks were brought and then another wait to order food. The food was late getting to our table. Employees in kitchen were noted standing around or making several trips to the bathroom. Two of our three party members set their empty beverage glasses at the edge of the table. We had to ask for refills and after they returned to see if we wanted pie we had to ask for refills again. Refills were brought with pies. There were two tables that were waited on out of sequence. People were ordering food that just came in while others were waiting. There was one man sitting by himself that never got waiting on and when the waitress noticed her response was ,"I didn't know you were my section." Finally we had to wait in line to pay but employees noted standing around in kitchen. I hate being a critic but it was happening to everyone all evening. I've only been a couple times but Perkins has great pies (love the caramel apple crumble and chocolate French Silk)! The breakfast food is also very good and the people are super nice! The last time we went the muffins were buy 3 get 3 free so we got 1 Apple, 2 Pumpkin Cream Cheese, 1 Blueberry, and 2 Chocolate! The Pumpkin Cream Cheese muffins were decent (although not much pumpkin flavor and basically no cream cheese) but the rest were great! What happened to Perkins and the once lovely pies you could order for Christmas Dinner? I ordered ahead of time a French Silk and Cherry pies. First of all they were tiny pies for $29.13! The crust was like thick cardboard the filling in both pies was really skimpy. I think there may have been 3 cherries in the cherry pie and the French Silk not only looked all broken up but tasted more like pudding! Ok we came here early in the morning after the drive in, my son comes here after work pretty often, we got some burgers and the first shock was the hamburgers came bare and they charge for mayo, and my wife's burgers and fries that you can see in the pictures. I asked for the manager "Jeanine" and she skipped to the table, she said the mayo was a corporate thing and she had no control over that, and it had to do something with money, and after showing her the hair, which is not long it is short so looks like to me it did not come off a head of hair but I don't know and do not care to inspect more. I am sorry but that is just not acceptable to me, sad thing is this place is literally right down the street from my house. Y'all, I've never heard of this Perkins restaurant before going there today, but I WILL BE BACK! First of all, they have such a variety of food to choose from...breakfast, lunch, dinner, a bakery shop (you name it)! It almost reminds me of IHOP...but way better. It was 3ish in the afternoon when we visited Perkins so we opted for a lunch/dinner option. My husband had the pot roast with broccoli and mashed potatoes (which he loved). I had the Salmon with a baked potato and a salad. The salmon was delicious and cooked to perfection. The potato, on the other hand, was not cooked thoroughly. It was so hard on the inside. I tried my best to eat it, but I had to ask my server for another one. Other than that, the food was great! Dessert options included cinnamon rolls, cookies, brownies, muffins, and pies. I wanted to fix my sweet tooth, but I was too full. Service, unfortunately, was S L O W. The restaurant was pretty much empty (besides a party of 7 that walked in at the same time as us), but they had 3 different servers working the floor. We had a different server than the party of 7, and we placed our order as soon as our server came to get our drink orders...so I'm not really sure why the service was so slow. I had noticed a couple of not-so-great reviews at this restaurant near my home, so I scrambled on over to investigate. After doing my part for the public, eating dozens of meals here just so you, dear Yelper could find out what's going on with Perkins on N. Oak, I'm prepared to share my impressions. First, the restaurant and service has improved in the last couple of years. There was a dark day years ago when Perkins was somewhat abysmal. Today, the decor is still dated, and the fixtures have obvious wear. They are still open 24 hours, which is great, and they have enough seating and parking that waiting for a table is rare. But the secret formula for restaurants is something like FOOD*SERVICE/PRICE. I Don't know the whole formula because it's a secret. Prices are reasonable, I've eaten a big meal with a drink for eleven dollars, which is close to fast food prices. They have a senior menu for hipsters over 55 which is a good thing. They have lots of promotions you can get by signing up for their e-club. Their servers are almost always attentive and friendly, and are observant about things like drink refills and condiments. I hate servers who act like they've never eaten in a restaurant, but most of those ilk don't work at Perkins. I eat breakfast here often, (at all hours), and find their breakfast options of fluffy pancakes, PERFECTLY cooked bacon, scrambled eggs that aren't dried out, tasty link sausage, and tasty eggs Benedict, and huge flavorful omelets better than the fare at iHop or WH. They have a similarly tasty selection of dinner entrees--sandwiches, soups, turkey and fish. Oh, and their baked goods--pie, muffins, cookies are the best. I especially like the French Silk pie or the blueberry muffin! I've stopped here to pick up muffins to take to work and always get rave reviews. Perkins is an old restaurant that ideally would get a face-lift, but considering how many Perkins restaurants have closed across the country, I think we're lucky to have his one. So give it a try, whether at traditional mealtime or when you are swinging through Gladstone at 3AM. I hope you like it as much as I do. read more

I enjoyed how the Country Cookin Benedict order came with French Toast. Most breakfast places you cannot have french toast as a side, other than regular toast or biscuit. Chicken Florentine Pasta used corkscrew pasta which is different but not real creamy and cheesy but just right. Service: given it was 1am, there was only one server who was attentive to us and all the other tables, offered to refill water and checked on us regarding the food. She was great to juggle all the tables and still be a cashier being the only outside employee, though she mentioned there was one cook in the back. Location: The highway sign makes it look like the restaurant is right off the freeway I would think within a light or 2, but don't be surprised when you have to exit and go about 1.9miles down until you see the Perkins on the left side. Bakery: I thought about buying a slice of pie but decided on getting the whole pie since 6 slices make a whole pie for them. Tip: if you can finish all 6 big slices buy the whole pie you will save more. If you can only finish a slice or want a tasting not knowing how the pie will taste, don't buy the whole pie. I hoped to enjoy the whole pie but should've stuck to what I knew I liked before venturing out on a limb. read more

Where's the 0? Imagine, if you will, the most disgusting place you could find yourself eating a meal. Now multiply it by 50. Slightly hungover and craving a Perkin's breakfast to remind us of our youth, we went on the hunt for one. Not an easy endeavor in this town. The Perkin's I used to go years ago have all closed (I-35 & 87th, Shawnee Mission Parkway, Olathe...). But a quick check of the iPhone and we stumbled our way up to N. Oak. Holy shit. This place is a dump. It was not busy, but they seated us in smoking (smoking!) anyway. I didn't know you could still smoke in restaurants. We were surrounded by octogenarians who looked like they'd been sitting there for 20 years smoking and drinking coffee. Everyone was surly. That's ok, I was a little surly, too. But, whatever! my tummy was grumbling and I was craving a belgian waffle smothered in strawberries and whipped cream! There was dried food stuck to the table, the silverware, our water glasses. Mine even had some nice lipstick at the top. Whatever! Belgian waffle please! While waiting, we noticed that half the ceiling was about to cave in from water damage...it was just drooping there. Unnoticed by anyone who cared. Whatever! You get it, right? I was ready to eat my own hand. But when my waffle came out, I wanted to sob. My daughter and I had visited earlier this week and had a mediocre experience but I decided to withhold reviewing. Today we decided to meet my mom for a late breakfast and give it another shot. Mistake. The water tastes very bad, like it isn't filtered at all. I added lemon which usually helps but even this didn't help. Then we had our Eggs in a Basket with hash browns. First time I went to this place was after prom my senior year, so definitely a lot has changed since then! I recently ate here earlier this month and I'm impressed with their updated menu and specials. I feel like they stepped up their game. It is definitely a fusion of applebees, ihop, and a bakery all in one! So I'm a dork and love the traditional breakfast of eggs, toast, hashbrowns, and bacon. I order it every where I go, cuz....#1 it's my favorite...and #2 it's fun to compare. This placed switched it up on me and had a dish called "Eggs in a Hole" for $4. I read the ingredients and to my surprise it was my traditional breakfast but with a twist! They cut out a hole in the middle of the toast and have the sunny side egg nestled in it! GENIUS! I love how they innovated something I've never seen before, nor have I thought of doing! My eggs were perfect (I always order over easy eggs and they got it right...lol I'm a big critic when it comes to eggs), the toast was buttered perfectly, bacon was crunchy, and the hashbrowns was delish! I was so impressed that this week during our below zero temps, I braved the cold and got 5 carryout boxes of eggs in a hole for my family. If you don't like hash browns, they have an alternative dish called "Fabulous Five" and it has eggs, pancakes, and meat (I'm not sure why they called it this, cuz there's two of each ingredient). I am definitely what you call a breakfast enthusiast, so I give this place 4 stars not only cuz of it's creativity but the prices are a steal! The specials range from $4 to $8 meals. The $8 meals are huge and definitely worth every penny. My grandpa got the huge dish of fried cod, fried shrimp, and fries all for $8, great value! I will definitely be coming back here. I was not impressed with it during high school, but that was literally 6 years ago, so Perkins stepped it up. I haven't ate their dessert recently, but I ate perkin's pies growing up and the fact that you are greated by a bakery when you step inside makes it feel very homey and got that midwestern welcome to it. Back when I was in college, we went to the Perkins in Jonesboro, AR for late-night hangouts and such. Fast-forward to the present, when it was 4am and I wanted some breakfast. Perkins was open. The place looked like it had seen better days, but what place doesn't at 4am? The server was a gal who had been there for years and absolutely loved what she did, so that was a plus. On top of that, she was pretty pleasant to the young folks who were hanging out post-bar. The food was... what you'd expect at 4am. A step above Waffle House, a step below IHOP. Not 15 minutes after we got home, my fiance was VIOLENTLY ill and I was not feeling well myself. I was hopeful with the new menu they had, but was SEVERELY disappointed with it. I received a daily coupon for 2 Hamburgers, 2 fries and 2 pies. It sounded like a good deal for $20 so decided to call my order in. The young man who answered the phone said something I didn't understand so I asked him to repeat it. He said rudely said, "what do you want to order"? Several times I had to repeat what I wanted and he kept cutting me off when I'd ask a question. When I asked if he needed the coupon number he curtly said, "I got it" and hung up on me.
