Took our Yukon into these folks, ac wasn't blowing cold. Previously gmc/chevy in gainesville prediagnosed the repair and charged 800 for the wrong diagnoses.and wrong part to fix the ac. These guys Told us how long it would take gave a very descriptive diagnosis and two days later we are blowing cold air once again. The price was very fair for what they did new ac compressor flushed the system and new belts. I would recommend their services and would use in the future which will most likley be my go to for services. read more

Don't come here expecting any sort of customer service. Classic "too busy" to help kind of shop. Broke down traveling through town and they wouldn't even help scan an engine code. Very surprised that a non franchise company would turn away a simple small job to help get me back on the road. read more

This is a family-owned place, and I always love to support local and family places. I was recommended this place by a colleague and read all the reviews online. They are exceptional! They tell you exactly what you need and nothing more. Their pricing is very competitive in that I believe it was fair and service was good. They provide you with a quote and breakdown via text message that leads to a website with price of parts and labor for each thing. You could even text their number, which was great. The main reason why I am only giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of communication. When I called about my car that was towed there, I asked about turnaround and expectations. Now, when I got there, they had a lot of cars in their lot. I definitely did not mind that it took longer than expected. I didn't call or check-in every day but I did try to get updates bc I needed to know if I needed to get a rental. I wasn't given turnaround time and with the games and events happening in Gainesville it got too late for me to get a rental. I honestly felt like they were purposefully not answering me or answering me at the end of the work day. I know I could've just gotten it but one of team members I know was truly trying to save me money by telling me to hold off on getting a rental until I heard from them. I ended up not getting a rental which was difficult with work. I ended up asking for some leniency at work and would bike (which was scary on Archer), but it was fine. I am very grateful and would definitely come here again but now I just have no expectations with regard to their communication. read more

This shop came to our rescue! We broke down on our way out of state pulling our camper. They took us in immediately, helped us locate a hotel, drove us to the hotel, complete the repairs and got us back on the road. Extremely fair pricing. Did I mention how fantastic they were, heck they even secured the camper for us. highly recommend this shop to anyone in or near Gainsville, Fl. read more

First of all - NOT a transmission shop - they farm out your tranny! Another auto mechanic shop putting fast $$ in front of warranty repair, this one really put me in a disgusted rage. After a $3800.00 transmission R & R visit that took 6 weeks, I paid for an oil change at the end of all of that. 4000 miles down the road, last weekend, I go to change the oil the night before a road trip and I find the drain plug rounded off. So I break out the vice grips, and it is so tight 2 neighbors couldn't get it either. I contact Dustin, and he advises that he can fit me in a full week later. He said there's no way he can help me out in time for the trip to Tennessee. What if I bring it in first thing, it will take 15 minutes to pop in a new plug? Nope, sorry about your luck. Now I pay another guy to fix Dustin's damage. That is exactly who this guy is. Do not expect any warranty loyalty from this joker. read more

My family takes our vehicles to Performance for all of our automotive needs. They are by far the most trustworthy shop in Gainesville. If they can't fix it, you need to throw it away and buy another one, because it can't be fixed. They never try to upsell me or my children for unnecessary repairs. They will let us know if they recommend something or if they notice an unsafe situation, but never any scare tactics to make us do more than what is currently needed. I would never hesitate to call them for a repair. read more

This is the only place we would take our vehicles for repair. They only fix what needs to be repaired and the final bill is exactly what they estimated. They do not do a rush job and sometimes it takes longer than expected but the final result is well done. Staff are pleasant and honest. Would not go anywhere else. Our 1997 pickup truck was returned running great and even looked better than when we left it a week earlier. Thank you Performance Auto! read more

I'm not a car expert and prefer to let the mechanics deal with the car problems, so it's important for me that they are friendly and patient with me. Performance Transmission & AC is definitely my favorite mechanics shop in Gainesville. I've visited twice now and they were always very helpful. I heard about them from a friend the first time my car had a problem and went hoping not to get robbed. It turned out that they were extremely good at customer communication and were able to keep things at a very reasonable cost. They were friendly over the phone too and can always be easily reached. They were also able to work around my work schedule and let me drop off my car early. The whole experience was pleasant and fast. I refer my friends to them when they have a car problem now. read more

Do not go to the store because they do not have appropriate mask They asked to be in the car but they came to talk to you on your window I was surprised and after the breath in my face I asked to be on SOCIAL DISTANCING read more

I decided to try this place instead of dealership service and I do not regret it! They were extremely kind both in person and over the phone and attended to my car issues promptly with reasonable prices. I definitely think it matters to trust the people who fix your car and I had no qualms. read more

Very friendly and provide an open communication in regards to your vehicle. They explained things and offered a pretty good timeline of the completion. The front off the office staff is very kind and provide options for you. They offer a "pre-buy car inspection " and they'll check everything for you. This is a worry free package for you, if you're buying a used car. read more

I have had my car fixed by Artie and the guys here and as far as my car being in the shop goes I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience each time. I have gone to many people around town and at some point or another I have felt jerked around a bit. These guys are super honest and have told me time and time again which repairs I needed to do now, which could wait and which ones I could fix in a different way to save some money. I fully recommend these guys for any type of car repair. read more

What amazing top notch service. I came in for a few routine things and to fix my a/c (it's about time I got it fixed) and the staff were really polite and personable. It was a busy day for them, and they told me it might take 1-2 hours to get it done and apologized for the wait. And here I'm thinking 'I've waited longer for less to be done'. Anyway since I live in the area I walked back home and left the car with them. They called me in maybe an hour and 15 minutes to let me know they were almost done and notified everything was fine. So I go to pick it up, the manager greets me, but now he has a noticeable limp. He explains he fell off a ladder and may have sprained his leg. Naturally I was concerned but he declared he would be okay for the rest of the shift. He then apologized that the crew forgot to rotate the tires, so I was given a discount while I waited for a tire rotation (10 minutes at most). I'd like to highlight this. The manager was more concerned about my car and customer satisfaction than anything else and should be recognized for his commitment to his job. The car was vacuumed, loose change was piled neatly on the passenger seat, and best of all they werent pushy about sales. You have car issues? Hit these guys up. read more

Send my car here to fix A/C four times and it's keep leaking freon and every time when I picked it back and use for one month it's not working again.Already spent more than $850 and I have no idea what they did on my car!Very disappointed and will never come back again! read more

I came in for an idling problem on my '98 Buick Century but also asked them to look over everything. Besides what I came in for, it turned out a caliper was sticking, which is a problem I've had before on this car. They gave me a reasonable quote and didn't BS me throughout the whole process. I spoke to Dustin and Artie through the whole thing and both were very professional and good at communicating with customers. I also had an axle seal leak, but I wasn't pressured to get it fixed then (the same goes for the brakes, but I chose to get that fixed). I called around to other highly rated shops in town, but the best quote I got to get new calipers, new pads, and to resurface the rotors was the original quote at Performance Transmission. Tuffy's offered to undercut anyone by 10%, but they were way too aggressive about getting my business over the phone, and I had the feeling they were going to rip me off when I got in there. They couldn't pin down the idling problem unfortunately, but that's the nature of intermittent problems. As I was getting my car back, Dustin offered to do a followup for free if the idling problem got more frequent or severe. Both my roommate and I have come in for service over the last couple of months, and each of us have got our cars back quickly without any shady business. I'd recommend Performance Transmission as a great straightforward auto repair place. read more

Thrilled with Performance Transmissions. I took my car in terrified that it was going to cost a ton of money to fix my transmission problems. Turns out it was a manufacturer defect in the radiator. He patched my car up and is sending me back to the place where my radiator is under warranty to have it replaced. Once that's done, he wants to see the car back at no charge to make sure that the leak hasn't returned. This work all came in for $60 under the $250 estimate. Reasonable and honest - you can't beat that in an auto repair shop! read more

My daughters 10 year old 102,000 mile Honda Civic needed an A/C recharge and was running rough. I had bounced from dealer to "so-called Honda experts" a couple of times for minor items. I decided to give Performance a call and I am glad I did! I brought the car at the appointed time. They set my time expectations and what they were going to do as far as the diagnosis, etc....They looked at the A/C and knew immediately what was the most logical fix and they took care of it expertly and explained the details of the work right on the receipt/work order. What I did NOT know was they have expertise in a variety of car makes, so they can basically perform all the work a car needs at a lower than dealer price for repairs. They do not "ONLY" perform transmission and A/C repairs, but ALL repairs that may be needed. Clean, easy to get to and very friendly, as it is family owned as a Gainesville founded business. Bottom line, it's been a couple of weeks now, the car's AC is cold and the rough idling has been repaired. The daughter is really glad, as they also gave me advice as far as a "paint defect" on Honda's and it looks like Honda America will be reviewing the paint defect and pictures for possible warranty work! read more

Great staff. Great service. Honda Gainesville diagnosed axial seal leaking. Then my car was brought to Performance Transmission. It turned out the problem doesn't exist. Honda Gainesville lied to me. Call and make an appointment. I highly recommend this shop. read more

Had to bring my wife's Scion in for new brakes. They quoted me almost half the price of another place. The people here at Performance also know how to treat a customer. If your in Gainesville bring your car here for good quality service. read more

Generally good service and fair prices but he cuts corners, lots of them! Expect to find loose, misplaced or even altogether missing bolts, fittings, tools left behind, etc...or even entire parts going m.i.a. He will usually be responsive and conciliatory to complaints but my advice is watch him like a hawk, inspect EVERYTHING yourself and be ready to take it back to him asap. Don't say nobody told you. read more

I recently moved to Gainesville about a year ago and when searching for a local Gainesville mechanic, I was lost. Its hard to find guys that do a good, honest job in a place you haven't been. Naturally, the internet was the way to find info. With Google Reviews, I narrowed it down to a place somewhat close to me, as I knew I'd have to go carless sometimes. That place was Performance Transmission. Since then, their awesome service and honesty has kept my car on the road, running strong. When I saw that their Yelp review was just 1 star, I knew I had to give them some much-deserved love. A bit about me: I love working on my car myself. But sometimes there are issues that I can't work out myself that often take specialized tools and/or lots of time. Sometimes I'm just lazy and don't want to get oil running down my armpit. Living in an apartment with no garage or carport doesn't allow for too many car projects. For these car issues, I go to Performance Transmission. It helps to know what you want or all the symptoms of an issue before you visit them. They don't try to upsell services, just give early warnings like brake pads starting wear down. I appreciate that because then I can think and make a decision later on with no pressure. Maybe even purchase parts before I need them. Their labor rates are very competitive. Artie and Dustin are very friendly and always listen to my questions and concerns. They're very knowledgeable and professional. I like to use certain parts and fluids that I purchase beforehand and they don't charge for parts, just labor. And any fluids they don't use, they return to me. They're always willing to give an estimate as best they can over the phone and in person. Its also nice that they're located close to bus stops and apartments so when I need to drop off the car, its easy to hop onto a bus or walk over to a friend's place. They also have a friendly dog roaming inside. If you're a new Gainesville resident (as so many students are) and you're looking for an honest mechanic, check out Performance Transmission. They always have time on their schedule to fit mine. I only hesitate to write them a good review because it might make them super busy and I won't be able to make an appointment with them! read more

My son bought a car in December 2012 that had been repaired by Performance Transmission for the previous owner. The engine was leaking oil from the head gasket. We spoke with Artie, and even though the repair was performed for the previous owner, Performance Transmission stood behind their repair work, replaced the head gasket and now we are good to go. Artie definitely went the 2nd mile. and beyond, and we heartily recommend them for their integrity and expertise. read more
