I was in need of some new glasses and contacts. *note: Oscar Wylee does not do contacts*…read more I saw that they were advertising on their website a good deal for two pairs of glasses as well as offering to donate a pair of glasses to those in need for every pair purchased. I made my appointment and it all went very smooth. The optometrist was sociable and skilled and the time that it took to get the exam done was short. But when it came to picking out the actual frames the options were limited. Most of the glasses frames were very narrow; too narrow to fit comfortably. I ended up deciding on two pairs and they were ready within a week. About one month later the screws fell out of my full plastic frames and I was left without working glasses in the middle of a vacation. When I arrived home I started to use my other pair but within a week the cheap metal that was used on the nose pads began to turn and stained my nose black. The blackened area quickly became irritated and dry and also caused my skin to break out in massive black heads. Glasses need to be cleaned, faces need to be cleaned but to have a product that is created using cheap materials that turn and stain your face... not acceptable. So now I have been able to fix the other glasses with new screws but I am surprised because I have been wearing vision glasses for most of my life and have never had screws just fall out. The other pair of glasses is basically a waste since the cheap metal nose pads turn my skin black and irritate my skin. I would never go back to Oscar Wylee for glasses and I would not recommend them to anyone. It was money wasted.

These folks know a successful business model when they see one. Oscar Wylee seems to be very…read moreclosely modelled on the US online business, Warby Parker, a specs company with funky retro styles, and rather good customer service policies. Like Warby Parker, Oscar Wylee is an online specs & sunglasses business with deliberately retro / hipster / geeky styles. Definitely more interesting (and cheaper) than the selection at OPSM, and those sorta places. Far and away the best thing about Oscar Wylee is the "try 5 styles for free" policy. There's no catch. On the website you can select 5 pairs of specs (not sunnies) to try at home, and they'll post them to you free of charge. Very quickly, too. Then, you can try them at home, show them to your mates, wear them out for a day (they're just glass) ... And then post them back (OW even pay for the return postage). After that, it's more than tempting to order a pair, especially because the frames are only $98. No extra fees for prescription lenses. Sunglasses are more like $198 (with prescription lenses) or $98 without prescription. You either tell them your prescription online, or get them to contact your optometrist. You'll need to know your pupillary distance measurement (either ask your optometrist or measure it yourself - OW show you how to do it). They are registered with most major health insurers, so you can submit a claim later if you like. There really is no catch. It's crazy. I just got my specs in the mail. They got the script right, and they fit, and they seem like they're good quality. The case is also really schmick. I'm totally stoked. Of course, I now look like a total hipster cliche, but it can't be helped. I'm a happy camper. Looking in the mirror with my new glasses, I am no longer depressed about putting glasses on. Sure, I've still got a pretty weird looking head, but at least the glasses are cute. PS: I'm guessing here, but I think it's just an online business, I don't think they have a shopfront. This is probably one of the ways they keep the costs down. EDIT 22/9/13: they have a shop front now... Sussex St in the city, or so I've heard...

I have a complex eye situation and I need "the best" to look me. I feel that I've found that here…read more My first visit with Jim Kokkinakis included a thorough eye exam and discussion about my eye concerns. I have had previous surgeries to my eyes which have given me dry eye syndrome, conjunctival scarring and scleral thinning. I cannot wear normal contact lenses. The last time I tried it was very scary... I literally had to run to a chemist for eye drops and then to the bathroom to take them out because I had intense pain and pulling sensations. I have tried medications including restasis with minimal improvement. My last hope is scleral lenses which are extremely expensive customised lenses that trap a layer of fluid between the eye surface and the lense. The fitting process is intricate and takes a patient person, and although it's not over yet I'm hoping for a positive outcome. Either way I appreciate the dedication of the Eye Practice and I highly recommend them. (They have some nice frames too) :)

Highly comprehensive with their eye checks. I am an Ortho K client, which basically means I wear hard contact lenses at night, that prevent my vision from getting worse, without having to wear contacts or glasses during the day. The staff at the Eye Practice explained to me thoroughly what the process involved and I have been satisfied tremendously for years. Great range of both sunglasses and prescription glasses but most importantly very professional and genuine service.

I usually spend quite a bit of time shopping for new frames, and in particular, I insist on frames that are not branded by some designer. That is basically the whole collection at Eyecare Plus. No silly designer brands. Just really high-quality, fashionable frames. It's getting harder and harder to find frames that aren't made in China these days, and the quality of European workmanship is really superior. Important if you expect your frames to last more than a year. I ended up choosing a cool pair of German-made ic! frames, and I've been getting compliments on them ever since, as they are very distinctive. The service is great. Unobtrusive if you're just looking-- and everything is available to try, you don't have to ask to get into locked cabinets. I went in once just to look, and came back again when I was ready to choose. When I was ready to narrow down my choices, the staff were actually helpful and gave me honest opinions about the ones I was trying. They didn't just tell me I looked great in everything. In fact, the salesperson (I think his name is Mike) recommended a different pair by the same manufacturer, and it turned out he was right-- they did suit me better. He was very critical about getting the right fit, making sure the frames sat across my nose at the right level and the way they wrapped behind my ears (I have a small head). He rejected a couple pairs which he said didn't fit me properly, and I appreciated that he took my choice so seriously and wanted me to have the right fit. Very professional. This seems like a small, independently run franchise. The optometrist, Chris Burgess, was very thorough and pleasant. All around nice people to do business with.
