Pros: the finished product looks nice. No complaints there. Cons: Marty said he would have a crew and it would take a week to do the house and garage. After a day the crew vanished - then he went on vacation and left one person to do the rest of the work. That man did a good job and worked hard (even recruiting his wife) but having one person do most of the work and taking so much longer was not what I signed up for. For one thing - I signed a contract with Marty based on his expertise. I did not know what I was getting into with the person who ended up doing the work. And I would not have gone with someone who was going to leave the job and have someone else finish it. He decided the start date and should not have started the project if he had a vacation planned in the middle of it. Also, having workers here every day meant a barking dog throughout the day and I was expecting this to last one week. The project took two weeks and his equipment and two bags of garbage were left here. He picked his equipment up and I guess the garbage is now our responsibility. So... that was my experience. Take it or leave it.

Jose's highly responsive via phone and text, and he patient and consistently supportive as we added some work mid way for both the interior and exterior projects. Overall pricing is very fair and Jose is an honest contractor. 10/10 won't think twice before going with Big Guy Painting for any other paint projects. (Some contractors ask for Yelp or Google reviews; Jose did not. This review is simply because he was wonderful to work with and his crew did a great job!)

Jose is extremely trustworthy. He noticed issues they could not have seen until they dug into the details. He didn't mask dry rot and paint over it, he made clear recommendations and explained to me why they would need more time and effort verifying I was ok with the additional effort. In most cases I honestly think he underquoted me. They completely rebuilt our porch banister because of severe dry rot and his concern if our dogs or child would get onto the porch and push past a post. We really appreciated that. Jose was also SUPER patient with us. We started this job without having 100% certainty of the colors we wanted. Jose got us maybe... 8 different paint samples, painted sections and joints of our house so we could get a real sense of what the colors would look like before we chose. He didn't charge us for that time, the paint, or honestly the delays we caused him. And because of his patient, we got colors we really enjoy now. I am someone that really cares about details, neatness, transparency and clear communication. Jose went above and beyond. The number of ratings he has on yelp do not do their work justice. Go to some other sites and you will see they have dozens more folks equally happy. There work was so good - I immediately had him help us with a rental property we needed to turn over quickly and he gave me a bid within a day.

Both of my properties are built into steep hillsides, which makes exterior work tricky and technically challenging. For our two-story house in Oakland, Hugo worked his magic to get it show-ready for open houses. The end result was flawless--so many people taking tours commented on how stunning the exterior curb appeal was, which played a huge role in getting the home ready for market. Our tri-level home in Danville presented an even bigger challenge: steep slope, HOA regulations, and requiring extensive scaffolding setup. The house had been neglected and had severely sun-beaten, weathered siding. Hugo's team went above and beyond during the prep phase, painstakingly sanding down all the surfaces to ensure proper paint bonding that will last for years to come. On top of the top-tier craftsmanship, Hugo is a great communicator. He was extremely thorough in explaining his paint choices, materials, and process, giving us total peace of mind throughout both projects. If you need a painter who is reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of tackling difficult, high-stakes jobs, call Hugo. I would hire him again in a heartbeat!
