I cannot recommend Hugo (Hmejia Painting) highly enough! He and his team painted two of my homes in the Bay Area, and their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and professionalism were exceptional from start to finish. Both of my properties are built into steep hillsides, which makes exterior work tricky and technically challenging. For our two-story house in Oakland, Hugo worked his magic to get it show-ready for open houses. The end result was flawless--so many people taking tours commented on how stunning the exterior curb appeal was, which played a huge role in getting the home ready for market. Our tri-level home in Danville presented an even bigger challenge: steep slope, HOA regulations, and requiring extensive scaffolding setup. The house had been neglected and had severely sun-beaten, weathered siding. Hugo's team went above and beyond during the prep phase, painstakingly sanding down all the surfaces to ensure proper paint bonding that will last for years to come. On top of the top-tier craftsmanship, Hugo is a great communicator. He was extremely thorough in explaining his paint choices, materials, and process, giving us total peace of mind throughout both projects. If you need a painter who is reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of tackling difficult, high-stakes jobs, call Hugo. I would hire him again in a heartbeat! read more

I had a great experience hiring HMejiapainting to repair and paint my home kitchen ceiling, which had been very badly patched by the previous owners. I highly recommend Hugo for several reasons: Excellent Drywall Skills: They have top-notch skills in drywall tasks like skim coating, sanding, and priming. It's perfect for "smaller" projects that bigger companies usually aren't eager to take on. Fair Pricing & Great Quality: Hugo offers reasonable pricing without cutting any corners. The quality of the work is excellent. Professional & Reliable: Hugo is highly organized, always arrives on time, and works incredibly hard. He doesn't take shortcuts like skipping coats or taking it easy on the sanding. Clean & Respectful: They did an amazing job preparing the site, making sure everything was properly covered, and cleaning up thoroughly afterward. Overall, I am incredibly happy with the final result and highly recommend Hugo's services for drywall and interior/exterior painting projects ! read more

Hugo and his team at HMejia Painting have become my first and favorite call when I need any painting or overall handyman repairs to be done at my home. Not only are they extremely professional and thorough but Hugo's attention to detail as well as respect for my tenants' privacy is phenomenal. Truly great people and great work! I highly recommend them! read more

I've used Hugo many times over the years. He painted exterior and interior of my Victorian home, he painted exterior at my dad's home, he did all the trim and caulk and acrylic stucco on my investment home. He also put in my pavers in the yard too! Hugo does a quality job at a good price. Further, he/his guys are there every day and working (no big spans of a week with nothing getting done) and he communicates well (not over communication and a million questions, but not leaving you in the dark either). He is a solid worker and I call him up every time I need any work done. read more

Hugo and his team reliably deliver work of a very high quality; they have great communication; they're very reliable and have fair pricing.

Hugo is wonderful. I have been working with him for 2 years and he is always quick to get back to me and his work is thorough and excellent. Highly recommend! read more

I've hired Hugo a couple times, once to hang and finish drywall for my ADU garage conversion project and for a ceiling repair project. He and his crew always do quality work and do a great job keeping things clean (which is super important if they're working in your house!). Hugo is great to work with - he's responsive and goes the extra mile to make sure the project goes well. I look forward to working with them again. read more

After getting a few estimates for an interior paint job, I selected Hugo and his crew because the estimate was really fair and his communication was timely and clear. Unlike the other estimates, he saw a potential problem with my ceiling and suggested a longer term solution rather than just patching. When it came time for the work to get done, he and his crew were efficient and respectful. While living in a work zone is never fun, I appreciated that at the end of each work day, they left the place as clean as possible. They did a beautiful job! I couldn't be more pleased. I will definitely be hiring them again for my exterior paint needs as well as a possible bathroom renovation. read more

Over the years, I have worked with many contractors and Hugo is by far the easiest/best that has done work at my house. Hugo painted both interior and exterior of my house for a quite reasonable price and did a great job. In addition, he communicates very reliably (unlike other contractors who often refuse to respond at all) and honors the time line he gives you to do the work. Hugo did a great job and I already recommended him to my neighbor who's looking to do paint work. Would definitely ask him for any other pain jobs I might have in the future! read more

Sunday, November 10, 2024, I met with Hugo, owner of H Mejia Painting. I told him that I have to hire a licensed contractor and he understands that. Yet, he continued to measure the buildings and taking pictures. When I looked up his license with the CA State License Board, his name or his company's name is not there. I cannot hire him or his company. read more

Hugo repaired the ceiling in a closet that had a pipe from an old furnace. Hugo was thoughtful re: the best way to repair the ceiling and even arranged a roofer to help out with removing the pipe and fixing the roof. We are thankful to Hugo for getting this project done! read more

I've been looking for a good contractor for a while - I've had problems in the past with inconsistent communication, crappy work, and straight up no-shows. I got the absolute opposite experience here! Hugo and his brother take pride in their work and really talk through options and explain why they suggest doing one thing over another. We had a leak upstairs that necessitated replacing the flooring upstairs (tile) and patching a big hole of drywall in the ceiling downstairs. Hugo walked us through the entire process and made everything look even better than before the leak! I highly recommend for any job, big or small! read more

Was very happy with the whole process. Hugo came to my house to give an estimate for two projects, and walked me through all the steps so I understood what he would do. I had a cellar door that had rotten wood that had broken off, and an unfinished basement that I wanted to put a sheetrock ceiling in. He sent a very detailed project proposal and was able to start work the next day. The work took a little longer than I expected, but they were so thorough and did a great job protecting our property and cleaning up. It was much higher quality than I was expecting for the total price. Would definitely recommend! read more

Hugo is great. Tremendous work ethic and attention to detail. His painting is excellent, affordable, on-time, and everything you'd hope for in a contractor. He patched and painted our entire apartment, installed new lighting, and made the entire place look brand new. Highly recommended. Can't wait to work together again! read more

Hugo is a fantastic, detail-oriented painter who offers a fair price for exceptional work. He painted an outdoor trellis for me that was part of a newly constructed outdoor tile deck. I had to fire my previous contractor for sub-par work, including some issues with the trellis. As Hugo was preparing the trellis for painting, he pointed out that some of the cedar wood used to wrap the pressure-treated wood was very thin in spots, and he said it would not last more than a couple of seasons. It turned out that the previous contractor bored out a large amount of the cedar wood to accommodate the metal hangers used to strengthen the trellis. Instead of filling the void with caulk or liquid nails, as he should have, my previous contractor just left that space empty, and Hugo alerted me to this issue. Other painters would have painted over the area and moved on, but Hugo doesn't work like that - he has pride in his work, and it shows. He cut out that thin area of wood, bought replacement cedar wood, used a chisel to gouge out the necessary amount of wood, then filled the void full of liquid nails, reattached everything, and finally epoxied the joint, so it is now invisible. Hugo wasn't happy with a section of the painted trellis, so he applied an extra layer of alcohol-based primer, then sprayed oil-based primer and coated it with three layers of paint until he was happy. Hugo did that work at no extra cost to me, as he wanted the project perfect. Painting is all about the prep work, and Hugo had his guys sanding my trellis for days - it's clear they know their craft and cut NO corners. His crew worked politely and cleanly, working hard to finish the project on time. I highly recommend Hugo and his crew for any painting needs, and I'll be using him myself for any future projects. read more

Hugo Mejia and his crew performed the interior repairs to my guest bedroom caused by a serious roof leak. They removed and replaced the damaged drywall and insulation. Then they repaired the damaged trim and painted to make the room "as good as new." I found Hugo to be very professional, responsive and diligent. His prices are reasonable and he stayed on schedule. I will definitely call Hugo for my next home improvement project. I highly recommend Hugo, especially if you are looking to support a local, family-owned business. read more

When I needed to have my condo repainted I requested quotes from 6 painters. 3 of them were no-shows at the walkthrough, and of the 3 that showed up Hugo was the easy choice. He took detailed measurements and was able to provide an actual itemized quote broken down by room - compared to just getting a single number via text message from the other painters. The amount of the quote was also very reasonable. Hugo was also able to start my job much sooner than most of the other painters I talked to, and he got the job done faster than expected too. If you care about finding a painter who is reliable, easy to work with, and reasonably priced I would definitely recommend Hugo. read more

Hugo did an awesome job painting the interior of my home. He was patient, flexible, and timely. For example, after caused some holes in an already painted portion of my home, he was totally fine with giving that area another touch-up. And he was also flexible, being willing to shift the painting schedule around mine to make sure they weren't working on rooms/areas when I needed them. All of the work was top quality and he was able to start & complete the work faster than other estimates I received. Would for sure use him again for any painting or other work I might need done. read more

When my tenants moved out their cat left a parting gift and sprayed in the back corner of the bathroom, and it ended up sitting for a couple days . Lots of drywall and repair contractors refused flat out, but Hugo called back and we scheduled a time for him to come out. We discussed a lot of details over the phone (size of are affected, did I have baseboard & what type was it, etc) and he gave me a time frame & cost estimate with the understanding that, if the damage was more than what I'd found with my own probing, we'd talk about next steps. Scheduling was hard at first, as he had a number of other projects at the time. But he ended up having a cancelation one morning and called me to see if I was able for him to come over 'right now'. I totally was and what a relief! He arrived with everything he figured he'd need from our phone call (remember, my appointment with him wasn't even scheduled for that day but for the following week #preparation), including a few lengths of baseboard which were technically all the same kind but had small differences so that he'd be able to match my baseboard seamlessly. We did end up needing to replace a small portion of flooring, but he ran to the store and picked that up right away (it maybe set us back 30minutes). The end result looks (and smells) like there was never any damage to begin with. read more

Hugo (the owner) was quick to respond to requests, questions, and issues that arose throughout the entire painting job. His team completed an 1100 sq. ft paint job within 5 business days with an accent color change and an additional request to update the high vaulted ceilings as well. The proposals and estimates were accurate and indicative of the work that was promised. However, the consistency of workmanship can vary amongst who's working on what so be sure to check the final job thoroughly. read more

1. Had the kitchen faucet replaced. 2. The previous faucet was leaking and damaged the cabinet's base board - Hugo's team replaced the base. 3. Within the past week, Hugo Mejia and his crew erected a partial fence and gate at our home. Additionally, he removed the remnants of a small fire we experienced which required the fence to be fixed. Hugo and his crew did an outstanding job. He provided a reasonable estimate of the job in both dollars and time. He purchased the necessary materials on our behalf. He met the time commitment. We are extremely pleased with the results. We plan to utilize Hugo Mejia's services again as needed. Joe and Rosa read more

Painted our long driveway on a lot built in 1925. Great quality result, fair pricing. Would recommend for any professional painting job. Hugo was a dream to work with! He was quick to respond, gave updates at the end of each day, was always on time, and went above and beyond to make our home look amazing. We worked with Hugo to have our 90 year old textured plaster walls be skim coated and smoothed out. It's a messy and long process, but Hugo and his partner, Pablo, took the time to make sure all of our furniture and flooring was completely covered and thoroughly cleaned up their work at the end of each day. Hugo transformed our walls and we couldn't be happier! We will definitely work with him again in the future. read more

Great experience! Showed up on time, good work, got done quickly and left the area clean. Will hire again.

Hugo and his team recently finished several projects at my house. He painted the exterior of my house, repaired drywall and painted in one bedroom, and added a door to another room. His estimate was slightly higher than another one I got, but I liked him more. Throughout it all he was professional, communicative, and trustworthy. His team was friendly, considerate and very neat. He always responded to texts / calls and let me know what he was working on next and often sent pictures at the end of the day to show me the progress. I'll definitely have him back in the future for other projects. read more

I contacted Hugo to repair and repaint a bathroom that had been damaged from an upstairs apartment bathroom leak. Hugo responded very quickly and was able to generate a comprehensive and professional proposal outlining what he was going to do. I was surprised as I didn't know he would respond with a proposal so quickly and also be able to start the job the next day. The proposal and cost was reasonable. The bathroom ceiling repair, repainting of the entire bathroom, re-caulking of the bathtub, cleaning of the bathtub and walls was completed on time and very professionally. Most importantly also was the cleanup as it was also very thorough. So much so that I immediately asked for another proposal for a 2nd painting job. I am very pleased with Hugo and look forward to working with him again, both for interior and exterior painting projects! I strongly recommend Hugo for any painting project you may have. Just completed a big project--full interior painting, plus kitchen remodel--all done by H. Mejia Painting. Although it took 6 weeks to get the job done, Hugo and his crew were committed to completing everything, as quickly as possible. They showed up on time and cleaned up after themselves every day. Their meticulous attention to details resulted in getting things done properly the first time so there was no need for return visits. And in addition to doing their work very well, Hugo and his crew were very professional, friendly and respectful of me and my property from start to finish. I am very happy and satisfied with the completed job. Old kitchen had brown flooring, cabinets and countertops. New kitchen has light tile floors, white-ish quartz countertops and backsplash, white painted cabinets. What a transformation! Everything is just bright and beautiful. Highly recommended!! read more
