Glen Galis Concrete Contractor - Great job

    Glen Galis Concrete Contractor

Glen Galis Concrete replaced our front stoop and added two stairs to the walkway. Before the work…read morebegan, it was very dangerous especially in the winter only having two steps to the front door. This was not even code in Kane County. Glen's installers were very meticulous and timely in getting the work done this past spring. I am constantly getting compliments from neighbors !

Another company came out, drilled down the uneven concrete and coated the cracks with matching concrete for $100. Is this a lifetime fix? No, cracks do re-open but even brand new concrete can crack over time. Then Glen said to repair walkway was $2500 (completely take up and replace so it sits at higher angle to front patio so the step up to the front concrete porch is not so high up. Another company put in a form and built me a concrete step that makes it possible to not replace the walkway, and then they filled in concrete imperfections and cracks in the sidewalk and left me extra concrete color, if it re-opens. My garage needed a new step (replace old wood one with concrete) and he quoted me $225.00 which is reasonable, and my side step had sunk and he quoted me $525 to replace it. The other company simply added a step to the side concrete, anchored the new form to the house, recoated original step and charged me $200. Their cost on the garage step was similar but they made it extra wide, so we can fully step out on it. I guess what I'm saying is there is more than one way to fix concrete, and Glen only does it the expensive way. If you have a large budget (I would have had to allot $8000.00), then yes, go for it. I also had concerns that all the drilling of the front patio would affect cracks in basement wall on that side and re-open them and queried Glen re that in the email (no response). Glen does not respond well (if at all) to emails, so remember to call. I think that he does great work, but remember it's only replacement work. He's not going to offer you any kind of "fixing" it work. I've learned through watching the other mason work, that concrete is fixable, also, by a home owner. It's fascinating watching him mix colours to match whatever imperfection needs patching. I now have fixed some low places and cracks in my garage floor myself!!

My 25 year-old driveway has been slowly crumbling and settling for quite some time. I had it…read moremudjacked once to raise it a few inches, but that was just a short-term fix. Overall its surface was badly pockmarked, and had sunk several inches lower than the garage slab. Before contacting any contractors, I looked at the options for a replacement driveway: basic concrete, stamped concrete, pavers, or concrete with a paver border. Ultimately I decided on basic concrete, for cost and ease of maintenance reasons. I got quotes from about a half dozen contractors before deciding to go with Sennstrom. While his proposal was not the lowest, I felt that the product they were providing (e.g. 5-inch thick, reinforced, 4000 psi concrete on compacted gravel base) along with their positive customer reviews, justified the cost. Once I accepted their proposal, the actual work started about 6 weeks later. From start to finish, it went like this: - Monday: start demolition of old driveway and front walk - Tuesday: finish demolition, install wooden formwork, install gravel base - Wednesday: inspection by city engineer - Thursday: no work, rained out - Friday: pour and finish concrete - Monday: apply polymer coating to existing front stoop, remove formwork The crew size varied from 1 to 5 depending on the task that day. The day the concrete was poured involved 4 workers and Tom (the owner). I liked that Tom was very much hands-on. (You can see this in my pics). The crew worked with a quiet efficiency where everyone knew exactly what to do without the need for direction. On Friday, they poured and finished the driveway and walkway (2 truckloads of cement) in 3 hours. Watching them finish the concrete was like watching artists at work. I had a chat with Tom while he was prepping the stoop for painting. I asked him if it was hard to find good workers. He said that he preferred to hire workers with either farm experience (who have a capacity for hard work and don't mind doing it) or a military background (who are trained to take orders without complaint). A good strategy. His crew foreman, Dennis, has been with him for 35 years. The finished driveway and walk look great, the crew's workmanship and attention to detail were outstanding, and the owner is someone who truly does right by his customers. Can't get better than this.

Unfortunate when you spend money on something to make your life easier and a company makes it more…read morecomplicated. We had our driveway seal coated and we had told them on several occasions including the morning when they showed up, to be extremely careful of our concrete ribbons next to the driveway and to not get any tar on them. We had it done last year through a different company and they were able to do this without problem. The one side of our driveway was perfect where as other side has splatter all over our 1 yr old stamped and stained concrete, stone masonry of the house and garage door. Called Dan the owner and he immediately denied any fault saying that water must of hit it because he has done over 16,000 houses and they have never splattered. It was 94 degrees out and no rain that full day, no sprinklers and no one was even near the driveway - no water anywhere! After me finally getting mad on the phone and saying how I would never use them again based on him just denying everything, Dan then explained how a complaint causes his workers to not get their bonus and that he would stop right by and take a look at it because the longer it cures, the worse it is. 3 hours later, still no Dan - text him again and he gives me an excuse and says he will swing by in a bit. 3.5 hrs after that, text again and no response. Looking on the internet, there is no way to get the tar off without stripping the sealer and stain color from our concrete. Save yourself the hassle and stress and go elsewhere!

He was such a great guy and I could tell honest and just someone I trusted immediately. I scheduled our week to be sealcoated I never told my husband, Eric, I had switched companies. Eric is such a perfectionist I could only hope SS would be just as good as our usual company. After SS completed the driveway I thought the driveway looked 50% better than the old company we used. The proof was when Eric came home and said the driveway looked "Great!" Ah ha that's when I told him I found a better company! Highly recommend! Thank you Dan and his team for a great job!! Suzanne
