The initial phone response & conversation was reassuring that's for the 1 star. Other than that, The in-person consultation Chris provides is up charged to even climbing up a ladder but not enough to take notes of the model or parts that need replacing. There was no follow up until I asked, but he ghosts you with the same cop out response as the other 1 star rating individuals say about his companies insurances does not cover multi-built units/condo. QUESTION: Chris, you did see that our building was a condo and you did ask during initial phone conversation. Why did you not say this at that point? I just had Chris from Perfect Air install a new forced-air system in my house after my floor furnace (circa 1939) stopped working for the second time in 4 years. There comes a point where you just have to stop repairing and replace - and it was time. So, I got 3 bids, did my contractor interviews and eventually settled on Perfect Air because of the enthusiastic reviews the company has here on Yelp. Frankly, I like working with companies that "get" Yelp and how powerful customer reviews are for their business. Chris definitely gets it. He also did a fantastic job on my install, which involved running the gas line up the wall and into the attic for the new unit and placing 6 ducted registers so that ALL the rooms in my house now get warm air, not just the ones closest to the floor furnace. The guys from Perfect Air were extremely respectful of my house, they put down drop cloths and managed to not break anything (more than I can say for the electricians who did my rewire a few years ago.) The work took approx 1 day and then the inspector from the City of Long Beach came the next day. Chris showed up to be here when the inspector looked at his work and he (the inspector) commented, "I've been checking this young man's work for three years now, and I'm telling you; you have a winner." Installation #4 happened at the tail end of 2020. Quotes from competitors were a multiple of 2 to 3 times compared to the Perfect Air quote. Those quotes also came with installation timespan at 4 to 5 days. Chris visited in person and provided a written estimate within an hour. He delayed installation due to possible COVID infection within his team. I appreciate his cautious approach and focus on safety. The total installation took one and a half days. This was the most complex installation so far and the Perfect Air team was with me every step of the way providing pros and cons of various decisions. After calling 20 different places, the soonest repair we could find was a week out. I found Chris on yelp. He answered on the first ring and said he could be there at nine the next morning (which was a holiday no less!!). He was able to come even earlier and was very communicative about when he would arrive. He marched right in and diagnosed the issue without even looking - he could tell by the sound what was wrong. My apologies for this misstatement regarding your business practice. An increase of $25 over the original estimate seems reasonable to me. I will withdraw my BBB complaint. But I just can't get past the overall price. I feel taken advantage of not knowing ahead of time how much this AC service should cost. I cannot fault the service which was prompt and effective. I have revised my original review and my updated rating is based on price alone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Given the current CoViD situation, I thought I would support and go with a local small business for my recent central air conditioner service. Mistake on my part in going with Perfect Air. Chris, who I believe is the sole proprietor, responded very quickly when I filled out the service request on the website https://www.perfectair.biz/ and we quickly agreed on an appointment for the next morning, May 7, 2020. Chris told me he would charge $85 for the service call but would be credited against any work done. I was not able to be home when Chris performed the work. When he arrived Chris provided an estimate of $385 which my wife accepted, not knowing what a reasonable price for service should be. Upon completion the final price was $410 as more R410a coolant was needed than initially anticipated. I called Chris back that evening and asked if he could break down the charges. I asked him how much coolant he added to the system and all he could tell me was "a lot," and that anyone who said they actually measured how much coolant was added would be lying and that he "goes by feel." I pointed out to Chris that if I were licensed, I could purchase 25 pounds of R410a for about $200 and that meant even if used a whole canister (impossible for my 3.5 ton system - he probably needed to add only a few pounds), that he effectively charged more than $400/hour given he was there for less than 30 minutes. He became defensive and could only argue that we had already paid and that is "just the going rate." While he did get my AC blowing cold again, he charged at least double what it should have cost and took unfair financial advantage. What do you say? $410 for 1/2 hour labor and a few pounds of R410a? read more

Contacted them based on their ad that said they do emergency air conditioning repair. After I explained the problem...a faulty thermostat...they told me they don't do work on condominiums due to their lack of insurance to handle those types of buildings. Tried to charge me almost 200 bucks to fix a simple electrical issue instead of a normal service call rate. He only wanted to do half of the job. What kind of service is that! Watch out, he will rip you off! Just had another company come and he charged me a diagnostic rate, which is normal. "Loose wire" is what he said. I was smart enough to not be ripped off and have this guy give me a price without looking at the problem. In his response he says my electrical was fried, but he did't even see my condenser. Don't ever do business with someone who won't diagnose the problem first and then give you a quote. I went to a different company and they came out fixed my loose wire. They even put my new wireless thermostat on. Cost me a 100 bucks. Everything is running great now. Not thanks to this guy. read more

My 1960 house needed a new furnace and we decided to get AC installed simultaneously. Chris gave me a very reasonable bid, and had the parts ordered the same day, with installation one week later. My house had the original, small 6 inch ducts. Chris made a big effort to put in much larger ducts to make the cooling effective. His crew did a great job working in the attic to replace all the old ducts. Chris is very mindful of customer preferences and works to make the job look nice as well as be highly functional. The new system works great and looks good. This is the second house where we used Perfect Air. That house had only a floor heater and needed a new AC/Furnace installed in the attic. Chris installed new ducts to each room and hid the unit in the attic. The system works great, so Chris knows how to plan the right size system for each house. Short Version: Perfect unless he has to come out again and fix his mistake. Long Version: He charged $90 to come out not $50 as advertised. He said he was squeezing me in and if I wanted the $50 deal I had to wait 1 week. Ok, I understand that. It's a business to make money. Great. He came out and said my unit wasn't wired right. For $150 (that included the $90 service call) he would fix the wiring. Good deal. Then he said I was out of refrigerant and it would be an extra $80 for a total of $230. Still fine with that. I have a friend with an HVAC company in San Diego and he said the pricing was in the ball park. I'm happy, It was a good deal. I was going to give him 5 stars. At night I tried to turn the AC off and it wouldn't turn off. I had to unplug it. I called him at 7:30, he picked up and said we would be there in the morning to fix it. Awesome! He shows up a little early, even better. He fixes the wiring and puts on HIS thermostat and tries to sell me HIS and says there was a short in the wiring and my thermostat is bad. I said fine put on my OTHER new one (both were new) and he wanted to charge $30 to put it on. Finally, he just puts on my OLD thermostat gets everything working and leaves pissed off, I'm assuming because he didn't get to charge me anything for his visit. I think the "bad wiring" was he just had my thermostat hooked up wrong. I am still giving him 3 stars because he was perfect all the way up until the end when it seems like he tried to take me for a new thermostat and charge me for fixing HIS mistake. read more

My parents have lived in their home in Anaheim for over 34 years without having the house air conditioned! For years my sister and I had urged them to spend a little money so they could be more comfortable in their home as they spend a majority of their time there. The response was always that it would cost too much to get something like that done. Their biggest "reason" for the imagined high cost is that they spend a majority of their time at home in the back room which is an add-on and assumed to cool down this room would be too much money. After playing around on the internet and specifically Yelp, I told my mom to call Perfect Air. Chris came out and did a thorough job explaining the whole process to my parents. During his evaluation process, he asked my parents about their back room as it was obvious that this was the main living area. My parents were hesitant to include this room in the bid, but when Chris showed them their total quote, my mother couldn't say yes fast enough. My father is a stickler on professionalism and timeliness. He said that Chris and his crew showed up on time, looked and acted like professional installion technicians and finished the project in the estimated timeline. It has been several months since this air conditioning installation of my parents entire home. There have been no issues. There have been no regrets. Although my parents at times might not use their new unit on warmer days, when my children and I come over to visit and state that it's a little too warm in the back room, once that switch is flipped the entire house in cooled down in SECONDS! He was only here about 15 minutes and checked out our AC when he said he didn't know what was wrong. Can't say enough good things about this company, and Chris. My ac shut off about two years ago during the busy season. He talked me through what to do to fix the problem over the phone, which worked....saving me at least a hundred dollars. He then came out the next morning on his own time and dime to make sure it was working correctly. Last summer, Aug 2014, our 25 year old AC condenser was crapping out and with two little girls could not afford to be without AC during those hot summer days. Went to yelp and found Perfect Air open on Sunday. Called Chris and came out same day to do an estimate. We talked for about an hour about all my options and his opinion on what's best for our home. Also told us about an industry wide issue going on at the time with TXV evaporators. He left and I called around to compare quotes. Price was fair and best part was Chris would have system installed in two days where bigger companies were booked up for weeks due to summer heat. In two days our brand new AC system was in and our girls were happy not having to sweat at night. Fast forward to last week. We were having issues with our AC not being able to cool the house down past 81. I called Chris on Tuesday and he said he was available on Friday so I said see you then. Chris called back a few hours later and said he could come out tomorrow if I'm free. I said sure! Chris was on time and started doing some tests while talking to Rudd customer service. They figured out it was the same evaporator issues that happened last summer so Chris injected AC Renew into the system as it's the recommended fix rather then replacing the TXV. 8 hours later it looks like my AC system is back to normal.
