She explained…read moreeverything to me before my cancer surgery and the day before she even had a radiologist do a lymphoscintigraphy (a special procedure that was like a breast mapping to get a radioactive substance and die into the cancerous tissue and shoot it sideways towards my lymph nodes to be able to see more detail during surgery.) When I woke up from having the lumpectomy I said, "Am I done here ....Did I have surgery yet?" because I wasn't in any pain. The nurse said you did great and as she said it the surgeon walked in and told me that everything went well. I asked why I wasn't in a pain and she said she put a time release pain medicine into my breast that would release slowly and the next day and that way the pain won't be bad and she said they also gave me some pain medicine in my IV. I have had ovarian cancer surgery as well as other surgeries in my life and I was always in a lot of pain when I awoke. I think this surgeon is amazing. On top of that she has the nicest staff. Whenever I call a girl named Zanayah who answers in the breast cancer department anyways knows me by name when I'm there for a visit. Normally that wouldn't be unusual if I had an appointment, but I had to go in today because some of my sticky wrapping on my breast came off in the shower (which the RN said sometimes happens). As soon as I walked in Zanayah said, Hi Dawn how are you? I was shocked that she knew that it was me. She said we're expecting you because you had called earlier. The nurse that re-wrapped the area for me was named Karen and she is always so nice. There's also a lady named Lynn that's very nice and the PA named Liz is also wonderful. I had a pre op appointment with Karen, Liz, and a lady that was fairly new named Rachel and they are all so intelligent and so sweet. I wouldn't be able to name all the people that were so nice to me at the pavilion at Valley hospital because it would take too many pages but this is a great hospital and the staff is fantastic. The anesthesiologist doctor Harvey assured me ahead of time that everything would be OK. I was scared since years ago I was giving a paralytic when they put me to sleep and when I woke up from having ovarian cancer surgery at memirial Sloan Kettering, I was paralyzed and it was very scary. She said we don't even have to give you a paralytic. She told me that once you're under general anesthetia for this operation, you don't need it. At this hospital the nurses give you their cell phone numbers and if they don't pick up it's because they're working with a patient and they call back literally within 3 minutes. Today I called and someone got back to me 3 minutes later. I feel very safe with the surgeon and this hospital. The doctor also made an additional incision under my arm to take out some extra lymph nodes to biopsy them just in case anything could have traveled in the future and she took out some surrounding breast tissue as well. This way I will live a long time. Very proactice team! The surgeon is also very cheerful and bubbly which puts me in a good mood when I'm in there and I would normally be nervous. It's very obvious that she loves her job.

The consultation was maybe 30 minutes, and the actual procedure didn't feel long at all, maybe 15 minutes tops. Afterwards, his eyes felt a little sore and sensitive, kind of like having something in your eye, but not unbearable. The soreness started easing up after a couple of days, and he experienced little hemorrhage. It had taken about 1-2 weeks to fully clear up. Nothing too crazy though--it all felt very manageable! He's so happy to not have to deal with glasses getting dirty, scratched up, heavy on his nose bridge or fogged up. He feels free and His eyesight is now 20/15.

When I did come in the service and care for my concerns was discouraging and I lost a trust for even going back to them for my concerns. They never called to confirm my appointment which was odd for them - which also showed me that I no longer felt comfortable going to this person. They should be shut down for not disclosing what actually transpired during my surgery. The doctor ignored my requests pre surgery and operated on me in a way I specifically asked him not to. Of course, he does not recall these conversations and insists I have a mental health issue despite trusting his "wait and see" approach for months. His office staff was kind and essentially I have to take my case elsewhere but it is fairly complex to do so, without elaborating. If this is where US healthcare is going, it is a terrifying future. You know how products today are built to fail, "controlled obsolescence"... Highland Surgical Associates has shown me that they are trying to take this approach to our bodies- doing procedures that ultimately fail their patients and leave them worse off, without acknowledging evidence of the damage they've done (including clear, obvious images). When you meet with Dr. Strom he explains in great detail the procedure, what he expects from you, what you should expect from him. His nutritionist is very nice and she explains a lot of health benefits and what the steps to take throughout the procedure and she gives you a packet that gives you great detail on the steps to take throughout the liquid stage and the puree stage ,that gradually takes you to regular food stage . After the surgery the staff calls to check on you to make sure you're okay and you're not in pain . All of my follow-up visits have been nothing but excellent . You're never in the waiting room waiting longer than 15 minutes and once you're called in the back your in the room 2 minutes tops before Dr Strom or one of his associates come in to speak with you . If you're looking for a great doctor with great Associates, coming here will be the best decision you'll make and if you're hesitant on having the surgery still come for your consultation let him explain what the benefits of having the surgery is and the steps that he will take during the surgery and what are the steps he expect you to take after the surgery .
