We booked a reservation to stay at this Campground for 5 days in June of 2018. We arrived to a Campground that was under construction! Our initial site was a "Deluxe Patio Site for $66/night, full hook up. We arrived and the entire site had just been excavated and had the sewer replaced. We were the first ones to put a 30ft travel trailer on it. We did nothing but sink into the sand. When we asked to switch to the other "Deluxe Patio Site"--there are only 2 we were told by the owner that it had been rented (Which it never was and remained empty our entire stay) and it was difficult to switch us- He was boligerant and Patronizing while reeking of Alcohol as he proceeded to tell us that the site we were on is booked for the next 2 yrs and he could get "double" the price we were paying for it. He finally agreed to move us to another site (NOT deluxe, nor were any of them deluxe) so we were downgraded and received no money back for this PLUS placed yet again right next to a HUGE excavated Sand pit for our view. Not to mention how dangerous this was for my 2 children especially the 4 yr old. There was no bounce house as advertised, a few tires sunk in to the ground in the sand pit and a dilapidated play structure for the kids to play on. This is no KOA. There are also rabbits running loose all over the Campground so essentially the entire grounds are covered with rabbit poop. This place was a Nightmare! If you want to know what a great KOA is (and for the same price or less) stay at the KOA in Covert, MI. We will never return--worst Campground we ever stayed at. Update: We also experienced interruptions of water while showering in our RV while hooked to their water supply and a tripped circuit breaker on their electric hookup while we were using our air, TV and microwave.

Here are 12 free sites! FREE! May 1 through October 31, you can escape to Manistee National Forest…read more During our summer week here this was a quiet getaway. Rain scared away three sites so we were one of two groups left, and we couldn't hear a word of the other group down the way. Site 11 is even a pull-through! All sites have a great tree canopy, fire pits, lantern hooks, and picnic tables. There's a pit toilet outside the Angler Trail and a boat launch off the Pete Marquette River, but nothing else. No water taps, firewood, or other amenities are here, but the quiet makes it all worth it. Being free, no one is here to clean up after the Taco Bell/Fireball/ash tray/BB affair of your site's prior occupants, so bring a garbage bag. Then, take it with you!!! If not Fireball caps, you might be the lucky to find the campsite whose prior occupants left a good stash of firewood, a rake, even a wreath, something I've never seen at a campsite. A hummingbird flew through our site, and woodpeckers were seen and heard throughout our stay. Mosquitos are here so bring your bug spray or coils. Michigan DNR says this is also bear country, so don't leave out food or garbage. Take care of your site so Sulak Campground will stay free, and enjoy the woods, song birds, fireflies, wildflowers, the lot.

We have always camped at Mears State Park...after camping at Whispering Surf this will be our first choice! First off the owners Jane and Andy and great! They are super nice, knowledgeable and want you to enjoy your stay while being respectful of other campers and their property. I was extremely impressed how they dealt with the Covid restrictions...We felt extremely safe and my family was able to enjoy our camping experience! First off, I don't know about you but my husband and I do not always communicate great when parking our camper...well forget about that at Whispering Surf....The Campground Host will guide you to your site and instruct the driver exactly which way to turn the wheel to get the camper parked on the site perfectly! This is AMAZING!!!! We love the full hookup! They come around twice a day and pick up your garbage from your campsite. They have an app they use called campers app in which you can order wood, ice, firewood, fire starters, Hershey Bar, marshmallows, graham crackers, and more...they they deliver the items to your site. They have a small mini golf course, and play ground however they were not used much due to Covid. This campground is VERY nice, VERY maintained but not fancy...it is perfect for us...we are camping. There is a little resort next door that rents very basic older pontoons for full or half day for very low prices. Which is great if you want to putter around bass lake. The people we have met at Whispering Surf have been kind, diverse and from all walks of life. Quiet hours are similar to most campgrounds, as long as your outside music is off and you can't be heard and aren't disturbing other campers it didn't seem to be problem for us to be out by our fire after quiet hours. We love this campground and plan on booking several spots for next season!

The campground was not all that big, which…read moreisn't necessarily a bad thing because you're so close to the small playground, bathrooms/showers (very clean), pool (they said it was heated, but it wasn't really when we went), and the lake. It's not the biggest lake, but definitely serves the purpose of kayaking or canoeing (in a small area) and paddle boats. It was $4 for an hour of paddle boating and not much more for kayaks or canoes. There technically is a "beach," but it's basically a small stretch of sand that serves as canoe/kayak/paddle boats storage. There was a fish cleaning station, so I'm guessing it's good for fishing? It was so convenient that they have propane fill up onsite in addition to being able to buy ice and wood. It's great that they don't overcharge the captive audience, we really do appreciate that. The spots were roomy enough, but certainly could've used another foot or two. Our friends rented the spot next to us and it was a perfect set up. The grounds were clean, the bathrooms/showers were clean, the playground was clean. I think one of the very few things it needs improvement on is the identification of the water/electric stations. It's not that big of a deal, but the camper that arrived before us was using the station that should've belonged to us. Thank goodness our friend had an extension hose and extension cord, otherwise we would've had a hard time reaching the water and electric. Our friends and I had spot 60 and 61. 61 is a corner spot. Even though we were right next to the corner, I never felt like there was too much foot traffic from people walking by. Overall, given the location, it was a great campground and I would go back again.

I definitely want to be back next year. Just one small thing to keep in mind: as a T mobile user, all of us don't have any cell service.
