There's a large children's playground and horseshoes pits for the adults. Firewood is really cheap at $3/bundle and they even delivered it to your camp site. There are 4 restrooms on site, but no showers or running water. It's camping and not the Ritz-Carlton so make sure you know what you're getting into. Pete and Pat live on site and made sure to check on everyone at least once a day which was really nice. They even picked up our trash every morning. Make sure to bring cash as they don't take credit.

Has lots of things to do for little kid, they have rotating weekly schedule. My toddler loves the playground & big sandbox. We ate some ice cream too as a night treat. I definitely want to be back next year. Just one small thing to keep in mind: as a T mobile user, all of us don't have any cell service. The only place they have wifi is the Cove, so we took turn to spend a short time there to use wifi to keep in touch with family at home. We are okay with no wifi but it is a bit difficult with no cell service.

We have always camped at Mears State Park...after camping at Whispering Surf this will be our first choice! First off the owners Jane and Andy and great! They are super nice, knowledgeable and want you to enjoy your stay while being respectful of other campers and their property. I was extremely impressed how they dealt with the Covid restrictions...We felt extremely safe and my family was able to enjoy our camping experience! First off, I don't know about you but my husband and I do not always communicate great when parking our camper...well forget about that at Whispering Surf....The Campground Host will guide you to your site and instruct the driver exactly which way to turn the wheel to get the camper parked on the site perfectly! This is AMAZING!!!! We love the full hookup! They come around twice a day and pick up your garbage from your campsite. They have an app they use called campers app in which you can order wood, ice, firewood, fire starters, Hershey Bar, marshmallows, graham crackers, and more...they they deliver the items to your site. They have a small mini golf course, and play ground however they were not used much due to Covid. This campground is VERY nice, VERY maintained but not fancy...it is perfect for us...we are camping. There is a little resort next door that rents very basic older pontoons for full or half day for very low prices. Which is great if you want to putter around bass lake. The people we have met at Whispering Surf have been kind, diverse and from all walks of life. Quiet hours are similar to most campgrounds, as long as your outside music is off and you can't be heard and aren't disturbing other campers it didn't seem to be problem for us to be out by our fire after quiet hours. My friends and I planned on a weekend trip to nearby Flip City disc golf course 6 months ago, but…read moredue to a scheduling mixup earlier this week we were not able to camp on site there. At the last minute I found this campground and made my reservation over the phone with the owner Don. He was very helpful and booked us site 44 since we requested shade and an electric hookup. The campground is stunning! After a meandering drive in through the woods, the road opens up to the lake itself which is surrounded by campsites of all types and sizes. Check in was a breeze thanks to Sue and we easily found our site for the weekend. 44 has ample shade and a large area where we setup our tents next to a beach. We had a wonderful view of the sunsets every night and really cool-looking fog banks over the water early in the morning. Very relaxing campground. Our favorite part was swimming out at the sandbar and jumping off the floating wooden raft at the center of the lake. The campground is only a short 15 minute drive to nearby Shelby and Hart, MI. Muskegon is only about a half hour south. If you're a disc golfer, Flip City is only 15 minutes away and is one of the best courses in the U.S. we played three rounds this week and had some amazing meals at Big Hart Brewery in Hart, MI and The Brown Bear in Shelby. My friends and I will be staying at this campground every year for our Flip City weekend going forward. It's unique location on the lake, relaxing atmosphere, close proximity to local food and attractions, and the wonderful owners make this a gem in western Michigan.

There's a fantastic "Lodge" type building with a full kitchen and bathrooms up at the top of the hill that can be rented for weddings or large family reunions. They offer volleyball areas, kayak rentals and camping spots. You can get spots where you can park with water and electricity, or you can get more primitive spots where you need to hike in. Most spots have a cement fire pit. It's very family friendly with a nice little store for camping supplies, shirts or frozen treats. There's a nice, clean bath house and Port-a-John's for people who don't mind using those. For people who don't like campers or tents, Wabasis offers cabins and a cottage. The cottage has four bedrooms, a well stocked eat-in kitchen, living room, TV, rowboat and a bath. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds, one bedroom has two twin beds and one bedroom has a single twin bed. Someone could also sleep on the couch, and we have even had kids sleep on the love seat. The cabins offer two bedrooms, with a small kitchenette/couch but NO bathrooms. The cabins are clean and spacious for a family of four. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other offers two sets of bunk beds. There is a couch in the cabins for an extra person. Both the cabins and the cottage are pet-friendly. We enjoy camping and have camped at Wabasis with tents, and our camper. In the fall we usually rent the cottage or a cabin, depending on what's available and have all the kids and grandkids come for a long weekend. There are trails to hike, fishing, and boating.

Our group--made up of eight families--was on our much-anticipated annual trip, which always includes a fun themed progressive dinner. This year's theme was "Favorite City." We chose this campground specifically because it's marketed as family-friendly, and we thought it would be the perfect fit. We arrived Thursday, and by Friday afternoon the first families were setting up their meals. Around 8:20 PM Friday, with all eight families present, most of us--including the kids--were participating in a fun group dance to the YMCA when two golf carts pulled up and surrounded the site we were on. A man stepped off one cart and immediately got in my husband's face--yelling to "shut it down or leave the campground." My husband is a big guy, and this man was clearly trying to assert control in an aggressive way. When my female friend calmly stated that it was her site, the man instantly turned on her, stepping into her personal space and waving his walkie-talkie antenna in her face. He then loudly declared that he was the owner and that he "wasn't going to put up with this"--all while children stood nearby, visibly confused and frightened. We were all in shock. There had been no previous warning or respectful request--just immediate, hostile confrontation. We turned the music off immediately and went completely silent, yet the owner continued to berate us and warned that we were being watched from his house on the hill. The entire energy of the trip shifted. What should have been a joyful, kid-friendly evening became tense and upsetting. The children were scared, and the adults were shaken. It completely ruined the vibe of a trip we'd all been looking forward to for a year. I can understand needing to manage noise levels or enforce rules, but this was not the way to do it. There was nothing unsafe, inappropriate, or disrespectful happening at the time--just families dancing and enjoying each other's company before quiet hours. We won't be returning, and we hope others think carefully before bringing their families here.

This is a hidden beach that few know about, mostly because you need to drive toward the Portage…read morePoint Inn (be sure to fill your water bottles at the artesian spring, just past the camp), and then keep going right past it on a VERY dinky, one lane road. Head past the marina and yacht club, take a right, and up the dune to the parking lot (free). There's a single room changing area with a pit toilet (needs must), well lit. There are two gazebos and a wooden walkway at the south end of the small parking lot, and a gazebo with benches at the north end of the parking lot. There are dog bags, if you're walking your dog (thank you for cleaning up after them!). I especially love the new addition this year of a barely inclined wooden walkway, with a handicap mat (not sure what to call it, but it is plastic netting that is a stable place for you to walk or wheel down). There's a pier, and a lighthouse at the end. There are 4 fire rings, if you are inclined to have a lovely beach sunset fire (bring supplies). This is my favorite hidden beach in Michigan, and the swims - and sunsets - are glorious.

I observed many individuals expressing concerns about the picnic tables, but ours was in excellent condition, truly one of the best I've seen at a campground, which suggests improvements are being made. I did find myself tripping over exposed tree roots quite frequently, but fortunately, I didn't sustain any injuries. Overall, I still have a fondness for this campground, and my children particularly enjoy swimming in the lake.
