Our group--made up of eight families--was on our much-anticipated annual trip, which always includes a fun themed progressive dinner. This year's theme was "Favorite City." We chose this campground specifically because it's marketed as family-friendly, and we thought it would be the perfect fit. We arrived Thursday, and by Friday afternoon the first families were setting up their meals. Around 8:20 PM Friday, with all eight families present, most of us--including the kids--were participating in a fun group dance to the YMCA when two golf carts pulled up and surrounded the site we were on. A man stepped off one cart and immediately got in my husband's face--yelling to "shut it down or leave the campground." My husband is a big guy, and this man was clearly trying to assert control in an aggressive way. When my female friend calmly stated that it was her site, the man instantly turned on her, stepping into her personal space and waving his walkie-talkie antenna in her face. He then loudly declared that he was the owner and that he "wasn't going to put up with this"--all while children stood nearby, visibly confused and frightened. We were all in shock. There had been no previous warning or respectful request--just immediate, hostile confrontation. We turned the music off immediately and went completely silent, yet the owner continued to berate us and warned that we were being watched from his house on the hill. The entire energy of the trip shifted. What should have been a joyful, kid-friendly evening became tense and upsetting. The children were scared, and the adults were shaken. It completely ruined the vibe of a trip we'd all been looking forward to for a year. I can understand needing to manage noise levels or enforce rules, but this was not the way to do it. There was nothing unsafe, inappropriate, or disrespectful happening at the time--just families dancing and enjoying each other's company before quiet hours. We won't be returning, and we hope others think carefully before bringing their families here.

We loaded up in the bus and listened to the infamous "Kayak Song" to get us in the mood(look it up, it's EPIC!) The kayaks were the sit on type and we were launched with no issues. Ludington State Park is HUGE, and we absolutely loved it! We paid $12 to get into the park and…read morestarted with the hike to Big Sable Lighthouse. It's about 1.8 miles each way, so just under 4 miles round trip. The trail to the lighthouse is a wide, sandy path that runs through the campground and then continues out toward the lighthouse. It's an easy path, but it is long and definitely sandy, so be prepared for that. The lighthouse area is really cute, and while we didn't care about going inside this time, they do offer tours. It was $8 per person when we were there. There are also picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy the area around the lighthouse. After our hike, we headed over to the beach, and WOW. The beach is absolutely massive and beautiful. It's sandy rather than rocky, incredibly clean, and the water was crystal clear. It was definitely brisk, but so beautiful that I didn't mind! There's a designated swimming area, volleyball nets, and really nice facilities. There are no lifeguards, though, so keep that in mind. It also looked like there were some really cool trails through the sand dunes, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to explore those on this trip. We needed to grab lunch, rest, and hit the pool before coming back later for sunset. And I am SO glad we came back. The sunset here was absolutely spectacular. Watching the sun go down over this huge, beautiful stretch of sandy beach was one of the highlights of our entire trip. This park really has everything: the lighthouse, miles of trails, huge sand dunes, a beautiful beach, swimming, volleyball, camping, and some incredible views. We only scratched the surface of what there is to explore, and I already know we'd love to come back and spend an entire day here. Definitely one of the highlights of our Ludington trip and absolutely worth the $12 admission!

The road to the entrance is full of sand dunes and beaches on Lake Michigan before turning into a wooded area at the actual park. We got to see a Bald Eagle perched upon a tree as we entered the park. The park has several RV camp sites that to me looked to be right on top of each other. They pack them in like sardines but I think that is the norm at these type of places these days. Not sure what the cost is to camp but for non-residents to come in for a day pass it was 11.00 per day. We decided to do the Lost Lake trail which is a loop across a couple islands on Hamlin Lake (yes there are bridges, you don't need to bring your snorkel). The hike was relatively void of people only passing a few along the way. I did see a hand full of people kayaking on the lake and a few more kayaks parked on the bank near the campground. The hike is 2.1 miles long and relatively flat the whole way. I wanted to do the lighthouse trail as well but there wasn't enough time. Great place to get your nature fix via kayak or foot. Not sure I would want to camp here on a weekend though unless you want Billy Bob and Mary Sue's 7 rugrats running around your site screaming.

They also have a room with air hockey, carpet ball, foosball, and a ping pong table. They also have a rock climbing wall, and with this stuff you'll never be bored!

I like that they collect trash twice a day, you just need to put trash out next to your site number. They light up the site number so it was very easy to find out site when we got back in the dark. No alcohol campground so in general, it isn't noisy or loud, just people enjoy their time. Easy in and out as one way around campground. Has lots of things to do for little kid, they have rotating weekly schedule. My toddler loves the playground & big sandbox. We ate some ice cream too as a night treat. I definitely want to be back next year. Just one small thing to keep in mind: as a T mobile user, all of us don't have any cell service. The only place they have wifi is the Cove, so we took turn to spend a short time there to use wifi to keep in touch with family at home. We are okay with no wifi but it is a bit difficult with no cell service.

The lake around which the campground is situated offers ample opportunity for enjoying the summer weather (which was sadly in sorry supply during our visit but it did warm up the last day), including a huge diving and sunbathing platform in the middle. Kayakers, stand-up paddlers and even small sailboats enjoyed the lake during our visit, and it's lovely to stroll the roughly one mile around the lake (particularly during the burn, when there's lots of amazing art installations, people-watching and other adventures to enjoy along the way). There's not much in the way of electrical hookups here so it's a great place to unwind and unplug. The portapotties were serviced super regularly and kept extremely clean. You can also purchase ice and firewood on site (realized when I got home that there's a check in offer here on Yelp for firewood ... Will have to have advantage next time).

There wasn't much information to go off of online so we went in sort of blindly. The room was huge with a massive bunk bed and a seperate bed as well. There was a full sized fridge/freezer combo, a coffee maker and mugs and some other accessories, and some little snacks things. Towels and washcloths were also provided. There is an air conditioner which I wasn't expecting as well as an electric heater. Firewood is available for a small free and they will set up chairs and a table near the fire pit. The security of coming in each hot day to an air conditioned, clean bed is wonderful. There are communal bathrooms which are basically an actual single person bathroom with a shower. The Lodge provides you with quarters to use with the shower so it doesn't actually cost anything. They also supply a large amount of material on local attractions and restaurants. We had an incredibly amazing time and are so thankful we booked here! The price was so low for everything we were provided with and the service was amazing. We did not rent ATVs, however, we snowmobile frequently in this area in the winter and there is a massive two track system and many beautiful trails. If you have the time, this would be well worth your while.

We have been seasonal at the park for many years. We have loved the environment, the people, the…read moreamenities and the great upkeep. Now, they got new management, the Freed Management Company-- Jennifer Freed. The toilets now go weeks without being cleaned, there is mold in the showers on a regular basis. We complained about it only to be threatened with arrest because we were "causing a disturbance".. I think we have a right to get upset when there is &hit on the toilet seats for weeks and the mold in the shower is making us sick. Freed Management Company decided that they didn't want to take the time to weedwack the grass, so they just sprayed a bunch of grass killer around all the obstacles in the park. Now there are just huge rings of dead grass around all the trees and trailers. We have complained to the City Manager of the City of Hart, MI who oversees the park with no results. As far as I am concerned, the Freed Management Company has ruined this park and the wonderful camping experience it has given us for years.
