I applied for the Spring 2021 semester, took hours to get all my previous courses added from all 4…read moreof my previous colleges in their system, among importing all of my FAFSA Tax info requested for financial aid (requested also on the app regarding AGI from previous years), paid all the fees to send my prior transcripts from my 4 colleges and high school, then promptly paid the $70 application fee.... I even wrote an essay for their HDEV program showing my seriousness and excitement for the opportunity to attend one of the only online psychology-related degrees I could find in the entire Cal State system of universities... Additionally, this happened after corresponding with Marc Strong in the Veterans department for weeks regarding my eligibility, my credits, etc.... Only to have the assistant director of transfers for veterans (I am a veteran) (for whatever insane reason she thought purposeful) DELETE my application in the system, completing clean-swiping ALL OF MY DATA AND WEEKS UPON WEEKS OF HARD WORK, because one of my schools apparently failed to send my transcripts for many weeks (even not answering her email request nearly a month after I paid to have them released, which according to them they DID send them). I received ZERO correspondence regarding them deleting my application altogether and today have been told I must fill out another application and pay another fee. NO THANKS! How is this the student's fault??? Why are we punished by you deleting our information and making us reapply and re-pay the exorbitant fee students could barely afford in the first place?? The least they could've done was refund my fee. This had nothing to do with me or my application. I sent confirmations the DAY I paid for ALL of my transcripts to be sent to Cal EastBay. They had a month. I literally filled out my application the day the application opened up, then paid for all my transcripts the next day, along with the fee. This seems very very crooked to me, the way that they do things. It's very much a transaction that makes little sense. The least they could've done was denied my application and left it in the system to reuse that information for the future... forget about the fact that I am now unemployed and seriously struggling financially to pay another application fee by the deadline of March 3 (not going to happen). What kind of school does this to a student? Doesn't look like they do care for the well being of the students, we are just another fee and administration process for them. Save yourself the heartache and apply to another Cal School that gives a damn. (and judging by Rizam's review a week ago, I'd say I did avoid more drama). NEXT!

Not leaving anything more than a star as I believe that majority of the professors here don't…read morereally care about the students learning capability or for those who claim they do severely punish that students ability to succeed that they inhibit and demoralize the students self worth. I've seen first hand how many professors can be cold and heartless and this place seems to be the breeding grounds for taking in professors who wish to push students away from their goals or dreams. Thanks for wasting our time.

Teachers were not as knowledgeable as you would expect from a private school. Extended care charges an arm and a leg for after school snacks...and guess what Sims/Benavente give them? goldfish crackers! And, we just heard about the priest this week. Wow! We actually never liked him. There was just something about him. The Dioscese should really look into this SCHOOL.

It was alright. As a former student, teachers were always uptight and children were rude (both to…read morethe teachers and peers). Little to nothing was done when a student was being made fun of or bullied (except for our math teacher at the time expressing his concerns). One of the teachers would always make rude comments, such as laughing at anti-Semitic jokes- two of our teachers were Jewish- and making rude comments such as when someone said they were going to convert (religion undisclosed), she said, "as long as it's to Christianity!". Had an awful classmate and no one would do anything about it one of the teachers said she pitied him. The principal, Colvert, was quite dismissive of any concerns and did not contribute to a positive learning environment. A few of my teachers were stressed and just overall exhausted, and I felt bad for them. Other than that it was your average Catholic school, I would rate it a 4/10. Do better!

When the invite initially arrived I was not thrilled thinking it was an indoor jump house (from the…read morename). I am an elementary school teacher so this is my weekend nightmare. I was SO wrong! This is a rare Bay Area gem for kids and families, every city should have one. All the attendees were impressed with the genius of the space, organization, cleanliness, and huge outdoor area. There are multiple indoor and outdoor "zones." The building is a duplex- home, when you enter there is a craft room with multiple round tables with crafts set up, in the center is a book/play area with tons of toys and cute furniture, a side room with a free personalized photobooth (email not printed) which is where the food was set up, and two bathrooms. Outside there was another bathroom. Down the ramp was a patch of fake grass where the party set up a piñata. Next to that, toddler equipment on wood chips. In the center, a huge table for kiddos to eat. Then the back corner has a large play structure and a fun bike ride where multiple kids could ride at the same time. This said, it's important for folks to consider that the two adults provided from Twirl are not enough to supervise an entire party. So keep this in mind as you are planning your party. This wasn't an issue at all for our group as the parents were all very hands on. The party I attended was from 10:30-12:30. I was so impressed with Duponte and Bella's ability to jump in- give the kiddos tattoos, help with the cake, clean up, and transition to the afternoon party. This is the PERFECT place to host your toddler- 2nd grade birthday party!

I've been at birthday parties where you have to ask the staff the help but not here. Both Duponte and Emma were looking for opportunities to engage. Emma played with the kids and attempted to keep the group entertained with crafts. They both helped set up; Duponte even lifted heavy coolers filled with drinks out of my car (and then reloaded when the party was over). Both staff hung up banners and helped with random set up tasks that I asked to be completed before guests arrived. The morning of our party it had rained at it looked like the weather was cleaning up so both Emma and Duponte wiped down the outdoor play equipment so the kids could spend some time outside. Everyone here loves kids, and it shows. We also received lots of compliments from friends and family truly impressed with the space and the activities available. It was the best place possible to host a birthday party. Thanks to everyone at Twirl for making my son's day so special and my day so easy. We can't wait to come back!

I am currently in the Occupational Therapy Program at the "old" campus (Telegraph & 30th St)! We…read morewill be moving to 12th St in Downtown Oakland in 2026. Coming to Samuel Merritt was one of the best decisions of my life. There a number of factors of why I chose SMU and why I love it more everyday. First: Why did I choose SMU? - Prior to starting at SMU, I attended SMU's immersion day, countless zoom info sessions, school tours, and meet n greets. When meeting the students and faculty they really made me feel welcomed and supported. I felt like I belonged at SMU and that I wasn't just another person joining a program. I liked watching the current students interact with the faculty. Everyone knew each other's names and talked like old friends. This made me feel excited and comforted when thinking about which university I wanted to choose - Campus is located a short drive away from my family home yet is also far enough away to experience personal growth. The location was ideal for me because I wanted to stay in the bay to be with my friends and family. - Campus is safe. There are many people walking around every day and I haven't heard about any crime on campus. Students, Healthcare workers (Alta Bates), patients, faculty, and security guards are always around. SMU has shuttles to take students to Bart and there is a guarded parking garage. Each building has security and sometimes Oakland police are on campus patroling. - No GRE - Great reputation and alumni I heard that many alumni end up in prestigious hospitals like Stanford Hospital - Many of my old high school classmates came to SMU for various programs and they enjoyed it Second: Why do I love SMU more everyday? - My cohort is amazing!! I truly love all my classmates. We have great respect for each other and we all get along. Outside our individual friend groups within our cohort, we still want to see each other win. Every day we laugh, chat, connect, and grow together. I really love that we all think of each other. Like how we celebrate each others birthdays by signing birthday cards and hanging out after class. - There are many fun events on campus!! We've had multiple fun events throughout the year. Note that each SMU campus have different events. At Oakland campus, so far, I've experienced.. * Free Taco Day * Free Yoga * Free School Supplies * Free Coffee/Tea * Free Gelato * Free Fenton's Ice cream * Free Pantry * Etc... TBD - SMU OT Staff are very supportive and have great personality! Myself and the cohort love the faculty! They bring great energy and want to see us win! Overall, I feel like the program is going by fast because we're having so much fun. Every day is a new experience and I look forward to the rest of my program.
