El Campanil (Bell Tower)

A cousin of mine was teaching at Mills College and he was kind enough to give me a tour of the campus. Nestled on the hillside of Oakland, Mills College is full of beautiful and historical architecture. One of the buildings that really stood out was the Mills Hall, in all white and reminded me of those old British estates. Mills Hall, styled after the Second Empire architecture in Europe, is apparently haunted with reported ghost sighting. It was one of the oldest structures which was built in 1871 and housed the entire college. The campus is really not very big and has varied changes in elevations which offers a lovely stroll. It is wonderfully landscaped with a wide breadth of flora and fauna as well as large trees that apparently have been around for longer than most of the people alive. It's not too far from the Oakland Zoo and there are lots of great dining options around. The Mills students are very fortunate to get their education is such a diverse, yet lovely environment.

A nice part of campus that has a lot of greenery.

Ask the Community - Mills College

Are you allowed to ride skateboards/longboards on campus? Is there a student store where you can purchase Mills attire, if so, is it open on weekends?

Purchase the stuff on their website. Just look up Mills virtual bookstore. Yeah, you can ride on campus. No, the tea shop isn't open on weekends.

In the last 10 years, OU has been the pioneer for Cannabis education in California and the forefront of a powerful movement with the legalization of cannabis. I cannot believe how many successful and knowledgeable professionals today that started at Oaksterdam. I love everything they stand for and definitely recommend above any educational institution to gain your medical plant experience here. They are completely hands on and have the best teachers who have such extensive backgrounds. They've been around a long while and in that time the biggest names were produced from their curriculum. We all are witnessing a phenomenon before our eyes with this industry. I believe there is so much good coming out of this movement and OU is there every step of the way. I still have the original OU baseball shirt from almost ten years ago. So proud of everything they've accomplished. Richard Lee, you're the huMAN.

If you are motivated and willing to advocate for yourself, you can receive a solid education and prepare to transfer or enter the workforce. However, like many community colleges, the experience can vary depending on the department or office you interact with. Some administrative processes, especially around financial aid or student services can feel slow or confusing at times, which can create frustration for students who rely on those resources. There are unwarranted delays, denials, and systemic procedurals around the resources that are in place to help students. Overall, Merritt College provides opportunity, affordability, and dedicated instructors, but there is room for improvement in communication and administrative support. Students who stay focused and take advantage of available resources can definitely succeed here, that's if you can get them.

If I had known this before I applied, I would have done an online school. One day, it took my 5-hour round trip commute to the Bay Area (510) with waiting for bus transfers, riding bart and bus, and getting to and from home. Previously, the commute with the Shuttle was wonderful, the best experience. Shuttle every 15 minutes, it seemed like. If you're like me and don't drive, consider attending another school. In my personal opinion and experience. Although the staff and transit people at school have given 100% effort in correcting issues, AC Transit isn't the best service. Half the time, I pay for a LYFT to take me to and from Hayward Bart to campus. Which averages $10 one way. Please consider this when applying.

This review is for the EKG Technician Continuing Education course, Fall 2025, Concord Campus…read more The EKG Technician course is supposed to be an 11.5-week, 60-hour in-person program with instruction and hands-on lab experience, but the reality has been far from what was advertised, and instead a huge disappointment and waste of time. The start of class was delayed a week with no reason and no proactive communication about logistics - I had to reach out the first day of instruction just to find out which classroom to go to and who the instructor would be. Since then, multiple class sessions were canceled or ended early, and we had only about five hours of actual classroom time instead of the nearly 28 hours we should have had by the end of week 4 (minus four canceled classes). The content itself was very disappointing - mostly reading slides (which were a recap of the textbook) and watching YouTube videos with very limited access to equipment or lab practice (which seemed to be an administrative issue). There was no effort to make up missed time, and it's hard to see how students would reach the advertised 60 hours of instruction, let alone pass the course or pass state certification. The instructor appeared to have good intentions, but it seems this last-minute staffing decision left everyone unprepared, including the instructor themself. Attempts to contact Continuing Education for help went unanswered, which is incredibly frustrating for those of us who paid full fees (over $1,600) and commute long distances to attend. To make matters worse, the Concord campus at that time had poor (no) lighting on the walkway from the parking lot, which is definitely a safety concern for evening classes. Overall, this experience has been unprofessional and discouraging. CSU East Bay Continuing Education really needs to address the lack of communication, instructional quality, equipment availability, and basic campus safety before continuing to offer it. BTW, check your local community college instead if similar courses are offered, it will be A LOT cheaper ($46/unit for Cali residents)!

It's next to a state park or in the middle of it. So, I came here because I thought it was closer. When I was in grad school before, there was a campus in Walnut Creek. It was in the middle of downtown and was quite easily accessible. But this place isn't. And if there is traffic (and there was) look out! I am glad that I don't have to come here regularly because I'd have to get out of work a good two hours before class to get there on time and then drive all of the way home after class. They aren't open on Friday or Saturdays. But I was able to pick up my books. I was going to look for some school swag but they didn't really have any. In the future, I will have my books sent to me to avoid having to come all of the way out here to pick up two books.
