Very disappointed. The pizza joint bills itself as "Real American Pizz since 1970a" but it is more of an impression of American dining. You can't fault the high prices, as everything is very expensive in Oslo. A 25% sales tax doesn't help. However, I do have minimum expectations of a $42+ pizza. First, our waiter was exceptionally short with us, bordering on rude. The menu seems expansive, but the pizzas combinations are not flexible so forget "build your own". We asked if we could get the pepperoni and ham "New York" pizza done on a thin rather than thick crust. The answer was two words from our waiter..."not possible". Apparently it's Peppe's way or no way. We settled for the deep dish because we were hungry and asked for water to drink and said we would order beers after we drank some water. Water finally arrived after the waiter was done visiting what were apparently friends at the next table. Pizza came out with no plates or silverware, so we had to ask. Waiter never came back, in fact made a determined effort to ignore us. Not only could we not get his attention, he positioned himself so as he passed our table, he ddidnt have to make eye contact with us. He never came back to take our bar order or check on the food. We had to ask a different waiter to tell our guy we wanted our check. Pizza was average. Very light on the sauce and not a lot of pepporoni, which were small and sparsely spread on the pizza. Water was, well, water. Can't describe the beers as we never got the chance to order.
Did we get bad service because we were obviously American, or was this just a jerk waiter on a bad night? We'll never know as we will never go back. The waiter seemed disappointed with not getting a tip, but we tip for service and he was simply awful. Don't bother with Peppe's, the food isn't good enough to put up with the remarkably poor service. read more
