On some days Champ donut is a solid 5 stars, but there have been some troubling inconsistencies…read morethat diminish my overall perception of them and it feels like a gamble for me at times. First, let's talk about the good. Champ Donut has great tasting donuts and a wide assortment of specialty varieties. Some are picture perfect and great for posting on Social Media. I'm a donut purist and mostly stick to glazed, however, I've tried some of the more fancy styles they have here like the Creme Brûlée donut and they're good, but I really just prefer to stick to the classics. Champ Donut also has a variety of smoothies and Boba Teas. I tried the Passionfruit Smoothie and it is the kind made from a powder with milk. It tastes fine, but it's too sweet for my liking. The issues I have with the inconsistencies at Champ Donut are with food handling. I've had two instances where I've had croissant sausage rolls, and they tasted like the dough had absorbed the scent of Fabuloso. I'm thinking the dough is not stored airtight. Another time, I purchased a bottle of milk here and it was sour even though it had not yet expired. I think some attention to food storage and handling would bring Champ up to the five stars I know they are capable of. It's a great find in this area and it's a cute shop that has a wide selection of breakfast fare.

But Champ Donuts in Northlake? They earned every last crumb of this one. We rolled in early like donut-hungry bandits and walked out with a box of regular donuts, a dozen gourmet donuts, and a dozen pigs in a blanket. And let me tell you--everything was absolute . Regular Donuts: Classic, fluffy, not overly sweet, and perfectly glazed. These babies could start a peace treaty. Gourmet Donuts: OH. MY. GLAZE. Each one felt like it had its own personality--like a little sugary diva showing off. We're talking creative, rich, and so decadent you'll need a moment to emotionally recover. Pigs in a Blanket: Y'ALL. These aren't your average gas station grab-and-go sausage rolls. These are buttery, flaky, warm perfection--like a hug from someone who brings snacks and emotionally supports you. The service? Quick, friendly, and you can tell they're proud of their product--and rightfully so. Honestly, I think my soul momentarily left my body and floated up to Donut Heaven. If you're anywhere in the Northlake area and you're not hitting up Champ Donuts, what are you even doing with your life? Don't walk--sprint. And bring napkins. You're gonna need 'em. Final verdict: Champ Donuts isn't just a breakfast stop, it's a whole vibe. ‍

Some tourist centric shops have popped up with everything Texas stuff, to send back to California ( that's humor) as well as places like Spice and Tea Merchants that ride the blurry line between tourist and useful buy. Out of interest I stopped in primarily because I respected the fantastic historic building restoration they occupy. It's over the top excellent. Once I got inside and being a cook, I could not help but be attracted to the multitude of prepackaged spices. One in particular jumped out at me. I had eaten at a restaurant in Austin years ago and was enamored with my entres flavors. Inquiring to the chef, he let me know it was aleppo chili I was tasting. All these years latter it jumped out at me at Spice and Tea Merchants and I had to buy. Along with a few other spice mixes and a couple of teas,I left a happy camper. Proves you can't judge a book by its cover. The clerk was helpful, the place is pleasant and prices aren't too bad. I recommend you Go!

The employees appeared to be whispering and laughing amongst themselves, which made the environment uncomfortable and unwelcoming. When I finally received help, there was little effort made to explain the teas or provide customer guidance. Overall, the customer service did not feel welcoming.

There was one larger party inside when I arrived, but otherwise the tea room was pretty quiet. The employee working the front counter was incredibly kind and welcoming. She offered great recommendations and even showed me the tea sample racks so I could smell the different blends and learn about their flavor notes (fruity, earthy, etc.). After sampling a few options, I decided on the apricot peach tea for its fruity profile. For food, I ordered the cranberry orange scone and a pesto, tomato, and cheese panini, along with the apricot peach tea. The tea can be served hot or iced, and since it was about 80 degrees outside, I went with iced. Everything came out to around $20 before tip. After paying, I was told to grab any seat and they would bring the food out when it was ready. My sandwich came out first and was delicious. I was also pleasantly surprised that it came with a bag of chips, and I got to pick one from the selection at the counter. The décor is very much inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, with colorful murals and whimsical artwork throughout the space. The back room was especially charming, with elegant chandeliers and a storybook-like atmosphere. Since it wasn't busy during my visit, I really had the chance to take in all the thoughtful details in the design. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and a great spot for tea, light bites, and a relaxing atmosphere. I'd definitely return!

There was ribbon, paper to wrap the bouquet if you didn't bring a vase. In addition, you got to choose your tea at the event. I went with the English breakfast tea which I enjoyed with cream and honey. Patti, the owner was kind, welcoming and checked up on us throughout the night. The atmosphere was lively, calm and I enjoyed the live music. I ordered a blueberry scone which came with a delicious citrus smear. Patti mentioned there will be more events throughout the summer/fall, so we will be looking forward to our next visit.
