If I could give zero stars for Pep Boys in Springfield MA. that would be generous. I was wary when I pulled up and saw the bays cluttered with trash. I made an appointment to have a brake light bulb replaced. The service desk employee said it would be a bit before they could get me in. I asked how long a bit would be and he answered about an hour or so. I asked what was the purpose of making an appointment. He answered, appointments don't mean anything it just puts your information into the system. I emailed Pep Boys Customer Service and they were worse than the the Pep Boys Station. I am so happy with the service I received. I needed some tires installed fe am online purchase. It was Saturday and seemed like a long shot to try and slip into the long list of appointments. John told me to drop off the car and they would see if they could fit me in. I dropped it off and The Manager Jacob assisted me. They said the would do there best. I normally don't go to them but I decided to go to them to get an oil changed done they did a great job on the Oil change the severely bad problem is the fact that they did not put the proper nut back in my oil pan they used a Ford pick up truck nut then stripped the hole didn't say anything let me drive off like that as I proceeded to leak oil throughout the days later I then go back to them to explain to them that they did not put the proper parts back into my vehicle they told me I would need an oil pan and then proceeded to try and charge me $900 to do the job and said that whatever the oil change cost me they would deduct it from there I am never going back there again read more

I really like Pepboys for their selection. I've never had service done there, and have only bought parts. Staff is usually friendly, but sometimes seem miserable. It really is a car guys dream store. I could hang out in here all day looking for projects to get myself in trouble with. Tons of accessories and performance parts. I recently had service there to replace my busted radiator. They got me in quick. Communication needs more work on their side. After waiting awhile I had to go up and ask what they found wrong. They said I needed a new radiator. Total price of like $460. They charged for a couple hours of labor based on what computer said. I know from researching, it was only like an hour long job. I guess that's what you get for paying by the job, and not the actual time it took. read more

If you have 2+ hours to wait for an oil change, this is the place for you. I called ahead to ask an estimated wait time and he gave me an estimate of an hour and ten minutes which seemed pretty specific but I appreciated that. I brought my vehicle in and proceeded to wait over two hours until they finished my oil change. Even with that, no way I can give them less than three stars because they were very nice when checking me in and out. They really didn't seem busy just took their time which isn't always bad I guess. Probably won't be back - just prefer my oil changes to take an hour or less. read more

I called in advance to get my oil changed and they told me it would be 70 over the phone. When I went in they tried to charge me 110... I had to make a big deal about it so they would charge me the price they told me over the phone. The service of getting my oil changed also took an hour and a half which is extremely unreasonable for this simple task. I don't recommend. The only reason it didn't take longer was that I went to the desk and asked why it was taking so long. Then, my car was magically done. Firestone in Springfield would do a better job. It's have to see when people in these kinds of stores want to take advantage of you. Took my car Las Sunday to check a noise. It resulted to be something with the rear bearings. Just the past was going to cost me 301 dollars because they don't sell them individually. All of the sudden they come with a list of things that my car needed new tires alignment front brake pads etc. The matter o this is that they wanted to charge me freaking $1800 for all of this. Should have read the Yelp reviews before I headed over to Sears and saved me a headache. Pep Boys to the rescue! Dropped in a brand new battery in no time. Open until 8pm on Saturday (and they are open on Sunday too) beats out most places. I spent my 20 minutes browsing around. Didn't realize they had so much stuff in there. AND they have a separate parts section, unlike everywhere else (Advanced Auto, Autozone, etc.) which is great because you won't have to wait to buy your air freshener, wiper fluid, oil, etc. while someone looks up a part and the line of customers grows (looking at you Autozone!) So yeah. This place gets the double thumbs up. read more

Things seem to have gone downhill here. Made an appointment for a simple tune up first thing in the morning and they quoted 4-5 hours. Fast forward to 29 hours later when I finally got my car back. First of all they didn't even start working on it till hours after my appointment, then they wanted to charge me for parts they broke. Called to tell me that they would have to keep it overnight because the mechanic was leaving at 5 (they advertise the garage is open till 8). They said they would have it first thing in the morning, then called in the morning to say it would be sometime that afternoon. They also tried to charge me $100 for what the guy at the desk said would be a free diagnostic. Overall I the employees don't seem to know any of their own policies, they have no accountability, and will say make up any lie just so they don't have to talk to you anymore. had a 1;30 oil change appointment,after it was done they came out to tell me my car wont stay running.they said they don't know why but its a old car and probably needs spark plug wires,ok how much i asked...$417 !!!!! the wires are around 35-50 bucks.i said and if that's not it ? they said they would try something else...i said no,had it towed to my mechanic in town.the next day he called and said they didn't clip the air box shut causing it to suck in air and mess with the maf sensor...TWO CLIPS not clipped and was on my to $417 plus !!! read more

After having a mishap on the 291 to 90 onramp where 3 of my rims were damaged (1 heavily) at 6pm on a Thursday night, the State Trooper who came and helped me suggested I bring my car here so they could fix it up and I could get it back all the way to Eastern Massachusetts. For just $30, they bumped out the 2 rims that weren't too badly damaged and put my spare on the other, and gave me a run down of other problems my car has (it is on the older side). All for $30!! And I was able to get my car home all the way from Springfield to Malden. 5 stars for saving my ass! read more

Girl behind the counter was very unknowledgeable about service needs. Because of her negligence I spent an extra two hours waiting for my vehicle, and I was also charged for the extra time, in labor hours. When I discussed my concerns with the service manager Mark, he told me that, "his people need to get paid too" I explained to him that due to his employee not properly informing the mechanic about my specific needs for my vehicle, he moved on to the next vehicle in line and left mine sitting on the lift for an hour and a half. I inquired about my vehicle when I noticed it hadn't been touched after so long waiting. There was a different girl behind the counter and she told me that the other girl did not communicate to the mechanic what services I would like, and then told me I would have to wait until she got back from break. I was looking for some economy replacement tires for my SUV and thought I would do fine will 4 Futura Super Sports. Online add showed 15% off 2 tires or buy 3 and get 4th free. Price quote online indicates the advertised discounts will be taken off at installation. Got to the store and was told nope buy 3 get 4 doesn't apply to Futura tire despite the printed ad I had, the only discount applicable was 15% off and only on 2 tires. I explored PEP boys price guarantee beating competition by 5% so I invited the guarantee only to be told this guarantee only applies to in store tires, not orders. What??? Bottom line is PEP boys ads, printed or online, are nothing more than false advertising which is why they won't sell to you with the discounts online. I do want to thank the young person who set me straight on how PEP boys tire pricing works, On leaving I went straight home to Sears automotive, ordered tires knowing what I was paying for, was able to plug in discounts, coupons I had and paid in full, on-line. The best suprise was when I went to confirm payment, Sears had an additional 10% off Sunday for automotive products and knocked another $33.00 dollars off my bill.
