All, stay away from Pep Boys at 3921 Western Avenue in Raleigh, NC. After completing an insurance repair for a damaged fuel tank while we were visiting my daughter in Raleigh, the van was vandalaized by having the fuel tank drilled. We had to leave it as they did not complete the reapir while we were there. Upon coming into town they are claiming the van is not ready and now needs a fuel pump at an additional cost of $1800. We are pursuing resolution through our insurance company and the courts if needed. Absolutely abysmal serivce. read more

I had the worst experience I've ever had trying to get an oil change and inspection. What should've been a routine service ended up taking two trips and costing me over three and a half hours of my time -- time I'll never get back. And the service was NEVER performed. The lack of communication, efficiency, and transparency is incredibly disappointing with a scheduled appointment being requested. Imagine making an appointment at the Dr. office, hair salon, vet, dinner reservations, bank and hanging out for 3 whole hours with no intentions obliging the appointment put in place. This place is an absolute joke. If you take your car up for an inspection it apparently now takes 1.5 hours to get inspections done. Then they want to fail you to charge you more money. They said "your right tail light is out", then when I go to get in my car my lights cut on when unlocking/locking/sitting in park. They apparently are desperate for money. I apparently also didn't have mufflers in my car that I've had for 12 years and passed inspection every year until I took it here. Don't tell me what I don't have on my car that I've had for that long and you've had for 1 hour. Trying to get more money out of people is a terrible business plan. Came in for transmission fluid exchange on a manual transmission. They told me it would take 45 minutes to complete. I scheduled an appointment for 3pm. Issue #1: I waited two hours to be told the car hadn't even gotten worked on yet. Issue #2 I payed for a fluid EXCHANGE & when I got the car back I had 1 of 2 quarts of oil that I provided meaning they didn't exchange anything they just topped it off. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD!!! RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A WOMAN!! I've been a loyal customer of this company for over 20 years. October 9th 2023 I take my Honda pilot to the local shop in Raleigh NC been coming up this shop for over 8 years. I tell the MANAGER Salvador M that I'm hearing a weird noise coming from the front passenger side. He tells me it may be my wheel bearings. I leave him the keys and said call me when you figure it. He calls hours later telling me I need 4 new tires and front brakes(pads and rotors) he said that's why you're hearing that noise once you get the tires and brakes you won't hear it anymore. I agree to have the work done but since it was so late in the evening they will do it the next morning. The next day I get the complementary full inspection email. I look it over and see that they couldn't figure out the sound that I originally brought the truck in for. The technician noted it could be my transmission. I go to pick up my truck and I speak with Sal the manager. He tells me he feels bad that I'm paying $2000 and it's not fixed. He feels so bad that he told me if I bring him the receipt from another place for a diagnostic test he'll refund me that fee. I told him that I was doing some reading on Honda sites and it could be the fuel pump. He said no we check that it's not that. The next day I take my truck to the Honda dealership. They do the Diagnostic test and guess what it's the fuel pump. So I had to pay the dealership $1300 to get my truck fixed after paying pep boys $2000 the day before. Flash forward to May 7th 2024. I've been hearing my brakes making a funny noise for weeks but I pay it no mind because I work from home and I'm not driving it far everyday. I have a friend of mine come to look at the brakes he said you hear that noise because you need new front brakes. I told him I just got them done in October. He said there's no way these brakes was done in October. He goes to look at my back brakes and asked when did I get them done I said 2021. He said your back brakes are in better condition than your front brakes. I take my truck back to pep boys explain the noise that I am hearing. They take it for a drive and look at the brakes. The technician says I need new rotors in the front because they have grooves on them. I go to the front to speak with lady Michelle at the desk. She says we'll do them then the District manager, Brian Bailey comes up to her and says we aren't replacing the rotors they are fine. I said but your technician said they need to be replaced. So him and I are going back in forth about this issue. No customer services skills at all. I take my truck to Meineke. Have them do a break inspection and the man says I've never seen brakes this bad before that just got put on and October. So two mechanics say I need new rotors in the front, but PEP BOYS WILL NOT honor the warranty on the rotors. read more

They failed my car and never even told me. I felt like they did not value me as a customer at all. Did they change the oil at all? I had scheduled an appointment online for an oil change, tire rotation and alignment check. Both tire rotation and alignment check are 'complimentary' with an oil change. They did not bother pulling up my appointment details so I had to go through the services I needed again. Very minor inconvenience. After about 4 hours, they called me to inform me the alignment was off and they asked me if I wanted it corrected. I politely declined the extra service and said it was getting late. They told me the car was up and it would only take 15 minutes. I again politely declined. They said OK, sounding annoyed and they hanged up. Goodbye to you too, Sir. Was my car ready? I assumed so, and went back to PepBoys to get my car. They parked my vehicle as far as possible. Fine, it was a nice day. Hot but nice. The Front wheels were right against the curb, nose scraping over the sidewalk. Thanks. They did not bother updating the previous PepBoy oil sticker with the type of oil and mileage. They did not reset the oil change light. As far as I am concerned, I am not even sure they have even changed the oil at all. Finally, thanks for rotating the tires, it would have been nice to check the the pressures and adjust the one tire that was low before I brought the car in. read more

I understand quality service takes a while, but since there was only 1 other person present I find it hard to believe it should have taken that long. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I had a 10 o'clock appointment to get new tires put on my truck. when I scheduled the appointment the representative told me it would take about an hour, this was the reason for the appointment no wait to get in one hour min. He stated that they usually get it done within 30 minutes but it wouldn't take any longer than an hour. 5 hours later they called me to tell me that my car is ready. the usual excuses "someone called in we don't have that many people on staff". Obviously this information should've been conveyed at the time I scheduled an appointment as they should've held back on the one hour commitment. I asked the representative when I dropped off my truck to check out the back brakes and to give me an assessment of what it would take to replace them. I received a call hours later informing me that the total brake system had to be replaced including the brake calipers. They gave me a quote of almost $1200 to replace both brake caliper, pads and rotors. This was very puzzling to me as the brake pads only started rubbing the day before. so I told him I would fix the problem myself and replace the brake pads later to just worry about replacing the tires. Upon inspection of the brake calipers they were perfectly fine I drove the vehicle to another mechanic that I know he inspected the calipers and determine the same. So either the mechanic at Pep Boys was trying to rip me off or he has no clue as to what he is doing. It Has to be one or the other. I would not recommend this location. read more

I still stand by my original one star rating because nobody should drop off their vehicle and then get it back in pieces and have to have it towed to another dealership for repair just to have them try to make you eat the cost for damages. Getting resolution took us emailing the CEO and VP of the company which should never be the case. We went 4 weeks without our only vehicle. For legal reasons I won't post more detail but it comes down to the fact that people should educate themselves about the businesses they use and make sure that are better business bureau accredited/check BBB complaints,how many there are, and check reviews on Google and other sources. When I got my car back, I noticed about 20 scratches on the bottom of the steering wheel, like someone had run something sharp across it. When I went back to the store and complained, I was told that it looked like it was cracked. Terrible service. Staff repeatedly told me my tires had not been delivered despite my delivery confirmation from UPS. a week later and two appointment cancellations later, turns out they were looking for the wrong tires, despite multiple conversations regarding the invoice and sizes ordered. They scheduled me for a third visit to install 4 tires. I arrived 10 minutes early and they quickly took my car and began install. Over the next 4 hours I repeatedly asked about the delay and they assured me they were working on the car and it should not be much longer. A tech finally came inside to let me know they wanted to confirm my tire sizes before they started the install. AFTER 4 HOURS THEY HAD NOT EVEN STARTED YET! I asked for my keys and just bring my car back around so I can find another shop to complete install. 45 minutes to give me my car back. Never Again. I wish I could give less than 1 star. read more

Since we bought our house in 2012, my husband and I had been going to this location whenever we didn't HAVE to go to the dealership we bought our car from. They were always fairly quick, oil changes were spaced out about every six months, things were okay. We had no complaints. Then this summer, I took the car in for an oil change. Before the car usually actually NEEDS an oil change, the caution triangle on the dash will light up and it would usually say something else was wrong with the car. As stated before, never had an issue when we took it in - like clockwork, about six months later the usual signals of sluggish performance, notifications (not always oil change) on dash. We were going on a road trip so I wanted to make sure the oil change was done before we went. The first issue was when they called to say the car was ready to be picked up. This was something that didn't always happen, but I was pleased to get the call since I had walked home and needed a 20 minute heads up. I was surprised when they said the car was almost done, but that it needed new struts. I said we were really looking to get the tires replaced before anything else and would have to look into the cost of each. Because I might not know much about cars, but I didn't think there was anything wrong with that part. I knew the tires needed to get replaced, though. That was that, we finished talking and the interaction when I got there to pay was a lot quicker than usual. There was conversation about what was recommended during the call and I reiterated that I had to think about both things before making a decision, but otherwise pretty quiet. I didn't think anything of it at the time when i didn't get a receipt. Why, I have no idea, but I just wanted to leave because I was irritated that they had recommended something I was nearly 100% certain that my car didn't need. Imagine my surprise a month (maybe six weeks) later when the "oil change" notification came up. I called a few days later, as life happens and it was most convenient for me. I was told that I probably got an oil change before I needed one and that was why the light went off. I STILL believe that was a load of hogwash, and I asked if I could come in and pick up a receipt since I never got one that last time. I went somewhere else, and would never recommend this particular PepBoys to anyone. The only reason I'm writing a review now instead of a year ago is because I read a customer horror story somewhere that made me think of it. HOWEVER, in contrast, the actual retail place has been pretty great. I've never had to order anything but whenever I come in to find something they have it 9 times out of ten, and can email me my receipt. read more

I know where I am never taking my car for service again... Pep Boys on Davis. The service reps were the worst I have ever dealt with. We ordered the parts for our installation online and when we arrived we were told they weren't there. Once found, and installed, the prices didn't match what we purchased online. When both issues were brought to their attention, two different employees said it was the web and not their problem and nothing they could do about it. And according to them, this happens all the time. These people need some training ASAP. The fact that there is a corporate level issue where the web and retail stores aren't on the same page is certainly the problem of the company NOT the customer. If I went out of my way to order a part a week in advance, I shouldn't be treated like an inconvenience upon arrival. Also, apparently setting an appointment is meaningless. When asked how long we can expect, the response was that they had no idea. Turns out they needed 5 hours to install a trailer hitch. The chapel hill store seems to have their act much more together. When I called PEP Boys to set up an appointment to change the rims, I was informed that's a "touchy" subject. I took my vehicle here back in the Spring, mostly out of necessity. It was the closest auto shop, and I had a dying battery and some brake issues to address. The first visit was mediocre. They eventually charged me a couple hundred more than their "rough estimate" for my brake line issue, which made me grumpy but I didn't really have a choice in the matter. The guy at the counter was at least friendly. The brakes they slapped on my vehicle were incredibly cheap, and they squealed every time I pressed the pedal down. It was so loud that I called and asked if they would look at them to make sure they were installed properly. The manager on the phone assured me they would, and at no charge to me. I brought the vehicle back. Waited for what felt like an eternity (2-3 hours) for someone to give my brakes a cursory inspection. When it was over, the same previously friendly guy at the counter (who already seemed to be in a much more sour mood than our previous encounters) told me my brakes were fine, and that I could upgrade to better pads if I wanted for extra money. I declined, stating my primary concern was just making sure they were safe. He rang me up for a "brake inspection fee," which I don't recall the price of right off hand but was somewhere in the neighborhood of the high teens or mid-twenties. I politely told him that the person I spoke with on the phone assured me there would be no charge. His mood immediately turned even darker, and he paced around behind the counter looking for my keys. Once he found them, he tossed them roughly on the counter toward me, said angrily, "You know what? Sure, that's fine by me," and went back to his work with another customer. It was one of those situations where something incredibly rude and unexpected happens, and you just kind of walk away in a state of mild shock. So, rather than the what-for the guy deserved, I'll settle for this belated review to warn others to steer their business elsewhere. read more

Terrible experience at this Pep Boys! First, I was left standing back at the parts counter for 10 minutes before I walked off to help MYSELF........ A few minutes later someone finally acknowledged I wasn't invisible. I tell him what I'm looking for and we head back to the parts counter. He plugs in the info and tells me that it would be better to get the part(a washer) at the dealership or if in a hurry he could suggest a generic one..............I should have listened to his computer.......the next morning I have oil all over my driveway....eeerr my landlords driveway because the washer he suggested wasn't even close nor crushable...... The moral of my review is to always go to the dealership you bought your car at for your DYI parts. read more
