I had come here a few weeks ago because my Nissan Rogue kept saying "key not detected" and the lights on the dash kept flashing when I tried turning on the engine so the guys at the desk helped me replace the battery on the key fob. It seemed to work for a week and then the error came back along with the flashing lights on the dash. So I brought it back in today to have them look at it. They ran a few tests and determined it was the battery causing the problem so they replaced it and now the car seems to be working again! The receipt has the name Evin D. Not sure if that's the same guy as the guy at the desk who helped me during both visits, but if it is he was great and super friendly! MY WALLET WAS STOLEN while my car was in the care of Pep Boys on Granada Blvd. I was traveling from Orlando with my daughter and her friend and stopped there to patch a tire after discovering a nail. I drive a Tesla, which locks automatically when I walk away and records motion when parked. The only time it was unlocked was while Pep Boys had it turned on for service. Within an hour of leaving, I began receiving alerts for fraudulent charges -- over $1,000 -- all at stores within a few miles of that Pep Boys (Walmart, Sunoco, Exxon, etc.). My car was never broken into, and I've reviewed the vehicle's footage. The theft occured while it was in their possession. To clarify -- I didn't knowingly leave my wallet in the car. I typically just keep my ID and 1 CC in the pocket of my purse and use Apple Pay for everything. Unfortunately, I didn't realize my wallet was still in the cabin until after the charges started appearing. When I retraced my steps and reviewed what happened, the timeline became very clear. To make matters worse, they didn't even fully fix the issue -- there were two nails in the tire, but they only patched one. I had to take the car elsewhere the next day to get it properly repaired. I've filed a police report with Ormond Beach PD and am following the proper process. I also spoke with the regional manager, who informed me that the cameras at this location -- and many other Pep Boys locations across the country -- are currently down. For a national business, that's incredibly concerning when it comes to customer safety and liability. This post isn't about dragging a business -- it's about transparency. I would never post something like this lightly, especially as someone not from the area and with no bias walking in. But I think residents deserve to know what happened. I also understand that many people here may have had positive experiences with this location -- and I'm not here to argue with that. The worst mechanics to be working on your car. CAR OWNERS BEWARE. I went here to get a free battery check because it was time that I needed a new one. They made me wait with no AC in the sun for 45 minutes and came back to me with, "Your battery is good but your alternator is bad and your serpentine belt is bald. We priced it out to be $939." I was very suspicious when they mentioned my belt because I replaced my serpentine belt around 10,000 miles ago. So I told them no thanks and they were visibly upset and pleaded that I stay. I was adamant that I was not going to pay close to $1000 to replace and alternator and belt and I drove my car home. The next day I take out my alternator myself and see that it's not sending out proper voltage to recharge the battery because it was very obviously tampered with. There is a male connector that comes off of the alternator and it was completely snapped off. Not typical for a connector to snap off when driving normal or even during erratic driving. I also see knife marks circling the alternator connector. Almost as if someone used a utility knife to try and cut and pry off the alternator connector. No worries, relatively easy fix for most. I get JB weld and fuse the connector back onto the alternator, let it cure, and put everything back together. Now the car works fine, the car didn't turn on one day because I forgot to turn off my interior lights. I linked my car not turning on because I thought my battery would not hold a charge. Soon realized that it was because I drained the battery by leaving the interior lights on. Alternator is fine. Serpentine belt is fine. PepBoys Ormond Beach sucks. TLDR: Forgot to turn off interior lights. Car wouldn't turn on because I drained my battery. I thought it was because my battery wouldn't hold a charge. Go to pepboys to get my battery checked/replaced and they try and hit me with a $1000 bill for the alternator and serpentine belt. Go back home and my alternator connector was snapped off and had visible tamper marks that looked to come from a utility blade from pep boys. read more

I have taken my four cars to this Pep Boys shop over the least year. One of my vehicles takes a European formula and filter. This time was no different except the new "very young" technician tells me when I picked it up that the two five quart containers was not enough oil and he had to add from their stock (they don't have it) I told him that makes no sense because the book states 8.5 quarts plus filter. This information didn't matter to him nor the person I just paid. When I took it home I checked the dipstick level. The level was fine but the oil was NOT clean. It looked as if it not been changed; mid tone color and it smelled used. I called the manager (I knew well) and told him my wife would bring the car back for his view. He called me back and said "it looked fine to him". I told him I had never seen a fresh oil change look anything but brand new. Light green color and no smell. He showed my wife another car in the shop that was in for an oil change and it was nearly black. I knew then the manager HAD to support his new technician because I would have taken this situation to the corporate level. This situation bothered me to the point of buying another 10 qts of oil and a filter two weeks later and had it changed at Walmart (of all places). I pulled the dipstick in the parking lot and it was a Light green color and at the proper level. This situation with Pep Boys soured me and I will never trust them again with any of my four vehicles. read more

My Mother in law has been coming here for years. Ever since the new manger Josh took over this place is going down hill. She comes in for an oil change and she waited so long and they never started it and were rude about it. She made an appointment for another day after work and she asked for them to look at other stuff too and they did the oil change so fast and when she asked about the other items they told her they don't have time to look at it. This place is going down hill and not treating people well. I would recommend going someplace else as I'm sure no one wants there Mother or Mother In Law treated so poorly. I did not rush to leave a review on Pep Boys because my experience was not pleasant. Having lived in the Midwest for the last 6 years, I have been spoiled honestly by being surrounded by friendly people. It's very rare to find bad service anywhere and businesses actually try to keep you happy as a costumer. No offense Central Florida, but i can't say the same. This was my 2nd trip at the "boys" since on round 1, one of the services done on my vehicle only fixed my issue for about 10 days. These things happen. And my review is definitely not focussed on the quality of the work performed. I do not understand engines, so I can only judge the quality of the work by my vehicles performance on the road. Pep Boys in Ormond is by far the the worst service experience I have ever had (with one exception). I walked in the shop to find 4 adults (3 of which were toying with their cell phones and one sorting out coupon books). I walked to the counter. Not a single one bothered to stop what they were doing. So, I greeted myself. One of the managers asked me if i needed help after my approach. I explained my situation only to find silence as the response. He continued sorting out his coupon books. I laughed out loud by the bizarreness of this situation. One of the mechanics that was early playing on his cell phone was now practicing his "cool" guy stance and stare. Very impressive. The 2nd sentence of the morning was: "Keys please". He then asked me if it had been more than 90 days since the last service, after i had just explained that the service was performed 10 days ago. He expressed disappointment at this since they would have to cover the service. A true expression of keeping you costumers satisfied. I had no intentions to return to this place since my previous experience was no different. Arrogance in the service business is the worst approach you can take. They did fix my car for free at the end. I would have rather paid and have had a proper interaction from the get go than deal with such an arrogant staff. I would give zero stars if at all possible! Took a car in to have new tires and brakes done. Next day the driveway was full of brake fluid. had to drive the car back they repaired it we brought the car home again! The car then started leaking transmission fluid, again had to return the vehicle and of course this time they want to charge me another $1700 to repair the transmission that there's no doubt they busted the line!As I sit with no car I had to assume this was my only option.Again pick the car up take it home and it starts leaking power steering fluid. another return visit and m told another leak mysteriously sprung up.. another $400 to repair this problem. I feel as if they took advantage of an elderly person and they knew that I was very vulnerable without a vehicle. scam artist come in all forms! I took my car in for tires and brakes and $4000 later I feel as if I was robbed. Now I must take my car to a reputable repair shop to have them look at the work that was done and see if there's more damage that is going to pop up due to poor workmanship. be very careful who you trust. i'm finding out every day the elderly are a target of scams on a regular basis. I don't know how these kind of people sleep at night. and no my car is not an old beat up car that's the problem!I keep my cars like I keep my house immaculate and well-maintained. I have been going to this location for 2 1/2 years to have my work van serviced. They are the absolute best!! They are honest (hard to find) and repair everything right the first time. One time my employer sent me to the Daytona location and I will never return. They failed to correctly diagnose my AC issue and had to return to get fixed a second time. The guys at Ormond Beach are ALWAYS friendly and courteous and work with me and my company to get the repairs done right. We had a splash guard lose and dragging on the street (after visiting a Daytona Dealer for service) and pulled into PepBoys on Granada to see if they could fix it. I went for an oil change. Fifteen minutes into it I was told I needed a cabin filter. When I told him it had been replaced at the dealership less than 5000 miles ago he went to the service area and produced a filthy filter and told me it looked like it had never been replaced. I made a mistake in not asking for the filter. A short while later I was told I had a dead cell in the battery and a crack in the alternator belt--another 300.00. I said I'd think about it. Yesterday I went to the dealership for my next oil change and asked them specifically to check these items. Everything was perfect 3,500 miles later. I replaced upper control arms and outer tie rod ends and performed other preventative maintenance on our 2005 Ram 1500 with 56,000 miles on it; it now needs an alignment. Went in for a FULL WHEEL ALIGNMENT - Informed them of what service was just completed - and paid for the Lifetime Wheel Alignment. Went for a test ride with Couric, before service was performed it pulled very, very little to the right. When service was done, was handed the keys and after leaving the truck pulled A LOT to the right. Went one block and returned immediately. Couric said that he did the toe adjustment but see that camber and caster are not in alignment and in order to do those will require a wheel alignment kit. (The truck already has Camber Bolts installed and he never bothered to look - How do I know? I Just replaced the upper control arm and seen the slotted adjustment with bolt already installed from the factory. Which was explained to him but he insisted that he was right). He recommended that if it were his truck, he would leave it as is. After the test ride to show poor alignment, he ran over to his boss and said that the truck is pulling to the right but not enough that it would cause an accident. We told the manager, Josh, If the full alignment was not performed, and service not fully rendered, we would request a total refund and go elsewhere. Josh took it for a test ride with me and agreed that it need full alignment. Josh then assigned Brian and Zachary to the job and they performed the full service as specified in the contractual agreement. After little over 2.5 hours, the job was completed properly and printouts of after Couric's job (4 in red and 2 in green) and after Brian and Zachary's redo (all 6 in green), now it is fully aligned. This experience has caused MUCH frustration and way in excess of time than what is needed for this sort of job. I recommend to request a print out of specs from the laser alignment machine, after it has been aligned - NOT just a 'invoice' as it does not identify specification of Toe, Camber and Caster. read more

For the most part I have been pretty satisfied with this store. The employees are friendly and they make it easy to get in for appointments. Sometimes this store gets very busy and they don't always follow up with you like they should. I recently bought some General Altimax RT43 tires from them. They actually gave me a better price than I would have paid from TireRack. I have been having issues with these tires since they were installed. We have already found two defective tires but I still have a car shake. I am now working with General Tire and Pepboys to exchange the tires out under General's customer satisfaction guarantee with a different brand tire. My car is only a year old so this isn't an issue with my automobile. In general, I would recommend this shop as a place to take your car for regular maintenance items. I feel they have always been honest with me and have charged me a fair price for the work they do. I do, however, think they could work on better customer communication to ensure satisfaction with the work they perform. I have been very frustrated over this tire issue and it could have been resolved more efficiently. I have had to go back three times to try and get this resolved and will once again have to make at least one more trip. read more

They also copied my private pictures and reposted them. I know it is was an "unsecured" Wifi, BUT, I am stunned that these unscrupulous, sleezy, low life people would access my private information. I brought my car here on a Monday at 10 am because it was making an odd sound and not driving right. I was assured that they would do a full inspection and find the issue as well as do an oil change. At 2 o'clock I called them and the guy that answered told me that my car was finished and everything was good. I questioned him as to what they had fixed on the car and he told me he didn't think they had fixed anything but was going to talk to one of the mechanics and find out. After an hour and a half I called again and the guy that answered the phone was dumbfounded and silent when I asked about my car and then said he'd have to go find someone else that knew about it. I was then passed off to another employee who said that it was the coolant system that had a crack in it and that he'd order the part and it'd be done the next day at 1. So the next day, Tuesday, my boyfriend calls at 12:30 and asks if the car is done. They told him that the part hadn't come in and it wouldn't be done till the following day. They hadn't even bothered to give us a call. Wednesday comes around and the car is supposed to be done by 1. They call me at 12:30 telling me that after replacing the coolant system my car would not start. They did some different tests and figured out that it was the alternator. So in summation, I drove my car in to the shop, they misdiagnosis the problem with the car, the car gets worse while in their care, and it takes 3 days for them to figure out what the problem was in the first place. After being quoted 250 for an oil change and replacing the coolant system only to not have a working car, I feel cheated. These people do not know what they are doing and they are rude. I ended up getting the car towed to a different shop and getting additional work done there because I do not trust this Pep Boys location at all. read more

They did work on my car that was not needed to be done, so a visit to Pep Boy that was to be 299.00 ended up being 400.00. That was to just change the front brakes on my car. They said to replace my back brakes would cost me 321.00. I did not return for them to change my back brakes. I went to Boulevard Tires and had my brakes changed and they rotated my tires and the cost was under 100.00. Run, run, run away from Pep Boys. I rate them (- 5 stars). read more

I wanted to buy tires and got a phone quote and ordered a pair of tires from Pep Boys. They lost the order and I had to follow up several times to find out if the tires had arrived. When the appointment arrived the counter guy tried to tell me they would charge a higher price than I was previously quoted. I asked why and was told it didn't include valve-stems. I asked whether he could mount and balance tires without inflating them and asked why they would quote me a price that didn't include the 50 cent part. Then mysteriously another guy found the notes from my quote, proving me right, and asked for my keys. 15 minutes later they called me up and said the tires didn't have a high enough speed rating, yet their website described the tires as "an outstanding performance tire" I am going to ask the manufacturer asap.
