The appointment was timely but the diagnosis was fraudulent. My being prior military and employed in aircraft aeronautics l was going there to have somewhere to refer friends and family preferably my wife when l work out of town. I wanted documentation for the diagnostic to make sure my findings matched. I knew for a fact that my airconditioner compressor worked because l tested in our engineering shop a day prior to the appointment. I needed a fan assembly. They kept me there from 4:30 until 6pm to eventually tell me that l need a compressor and it would cost $1667.79 They said if l purchased my own part they would install it for 947.20 Very deceptive practice when it took us 20 mins at my job to determine on of my fans was operable and the compressor was functioning fine checking both pulley wheels spinning when air on and only one spinning when air was off. Checked for freon leaks as well . They have lost my business and l will make sure l tell anyone in my circle personal and business to steer clear of Pep Boys. Dishonest and misrepresented what quality informative service should be. These are trying times in this country already with a dishonest government. BLATANTLY DISHONEST ON REPAIR SERVICE On 10-17-19 I came in with an inner tie rod unscrewed from the steering rack. What it needed was to have the threads cleaned and then screw the tie rod back in. I had a new tie rod part just in case. Their so-called master mechanic (maybe 25 years old) told me I needed a new steering rack (approx $1,000 part) plus a new tie rod ($111) because the threads were stripped. Labor extra. I stated that the threads don't look stripped and they haven't tried the simple fix. They refused to try and I refuse to be ripped off and left. Advice: educate yourself on the problem before you go here as they may try to rip you off. read more

This was confirmed on their video and they admitted it was their fault. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From that point on the nightmare began. It started in January. on Feb 7, called Pep boys and asked for the number to Corporate. Pep Boys representative in Orange said they were able to get an official case documented. They also said to get a quote from Safelite which happened. Nothing further happened. No communication whatsoever[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Regional manager who remains a mystery closed the case unbeknownst to me without EVER reaching out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Called the Pep Boys Corporate office and that's where I learned the case had been closed. The Corporate representative reopened the case and said that since Corporate had been called, this issue would be escalated. I've been told "escalated" more times than I can count[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I also recorded a conversation at the Orange location where the counter guy expressed great frustration and admitted again this was their fault. It's June now and nothing. Got my tires here 5K miles ago. Got a nail in my passenger rear tire, so I went in to this Pep Boys to get it fixed. I needed an oil change and tire rotation too, and decided to add a wheel alignment since it was an included option in my original tire purchase. Almost and a half hours after arriving, my work was completed and I was on my way (not sure if this is a normal amount of time to wait for this service). So I got home and decided to check the tire repair since I was curious to what it looked like. I was looking at passenger front (since the tires were supposed to be rotated), but couldn't find the repair anywhere on that tire. So I checked passenger rear and there's the repaired tire, right where it was before I came to Pep Boys. Good job on the repair. Bad job on the tire rotation. Checked invoice: tire rotation is listed as one of the services rendered. No charge because it was included with tire purchase, but come on...I'm trying to make sure these $800 tires last a long time and the service I ordered was not completed, but delivered to me as if it was. Not cool. Now I need to take another couple hours out of some day to get the tires rotated. read more

Damaged the wheels on my car while swapping out the tires. Manager was not present when I picked up the car, employee took photos and apologized and said the Manager Luis would call me. Luis Ojeda proceeded to accuse me of damaging the wheels myself and bringing my car here just to try to get them to fix my wheels. I brought my car here because they had done great work in the past and one of my tires popped so all 4 needed to be replaced. The damage is a mix of scrapes and dents on the wheels with the finish completely scraped off in those areas. Manager told me I would be fine and get over it, every time I asked if they could do anything he accused me of lying and trying to malicious take advantage of the business. OK so this is only the 2nd bad review I've had to right about a company but after several bad experiences it is necessary. 1. Got an oil change on Saturday because I was driving to the airport Sunday. I come back from my trip and get on the highway and the car is overheating. Bring it to my regular mechanic who says the cap was not put on tight. Thanks for the 4 hours wasted of my life having to stop every 5 minutes for the car to cool down! 2. My son brought his car in for tires. they said he needed a new axle. He gets that replaced and it falls off on the highway totaling his car!! 3. Got a timing belt put on by regular mechanic. Went to PP a week later for something un-related and they suggested I get a new timing belt, I said nice try I just did!!! 3 strikes - shame on me, never going back, not even for an airfreshner. NO!! DO NOT GO HERE! I went here for just an oil change and ended up leaving spending over $1,000 because the tech told me it was necessary to get a few things for my car. When I left I noticed my hood Bobbing up and down, they left a Dirty rag in my hood and never shut the hood all the way! They melted my brake light into the car so I had to come back the next day. Within 24 hours the brand new tire they gave me literally deflated. Lights were still on in my dashboard. I went to put drivers side window down and my entire window shattered and fell into the crevice of the door. All of my lights inside the car go off now when I click my blinker- which NEVER happened prior to them messing with my car. It has been 3 weeks and my car is saying I need another oil change !!! we had tires shipped to the store to get put on our vehicle. fed ex delivered the tires and they told us the tires never got delivered to the store. we had proof that the tires were delivered there and they told us they got delivered to the wrong address. after starting a investigation with fed ex 4 hours later the store finds our tires that got delivered to the store. I had four different employees tell me that there was no way the tires were there. so I had to drive back home 45 min. away and go back the next day to get them installed. and they didn't even discount the installation for the tires. very disorganized place would never use this place!!! read more

I've been here a couple of times before for oil changes and this was my second time here for brake related issues. On this particular occasion I came in when my brake light went on in my '14 BMW signaling that brakes needed to be serviced. After dealing with the same friendly courteous crew as usual I was told both my front and rear brakes needed changing. To which I agreed and even joking exchanged bantered with a gentleman behind the counter about how it could be worse it could be brakes AND rotors. After sitting here for an additional 1.5 hours waiting for my front brakes to be done since parts were ordered for the back and I'd be coming back tomorrow to service that, once I went up to pay my bill was $794! For brakes AND rotors. I was never communicated to about rotors at any point even after my joking banter! Horrible communication to A assume I know that a brake job included rotors (I don't work here how would I know unless told) B- assuming I would have $800 to spend! Just because I drive a nice car doesn't equate to me being able to drop hundreds/thousands at a moments notice. ***came back today to finish the rear brakes and rotors, waited from 9-11 only to find out the wrong rotors came in and that I'd have to come back again at some point this week to finish them. So a 3 hour job will now take 3 days, and 7+ hours to complete. read more

They were able to find the problem, fix it and get me out of there in relatively short time. Nobody likes to have an emergency situation with their vehicle. I have a car that was lowered on coils. Nothing rubbed when I brought the car to them, this is important for the rest of the review. I brought my car to pep boys because my tires were dry-rotted. I purchased the correct size tires online and booked an appointment. I go in for my appointment, and they called to tell me my car was done but the tires are rubbing now. I said why is that? They weren't rubbing before. Long story short I purchased 225/45R17 tires (Made sure the part numbers matched). They somehow got sent 225/55R17. Either way, I called the store back and told them that not what I ordered, and I proceeded to get told there is nothing they can do about it. I call the cooperate customer service number, and the representative could not believe they said they couldn't help. I started a case with Cooperate and went down to pick my car up. I paid for it, each tire was rubbing not only the fender liners but also the coils. I got my tires installed Wednesday the 29th of March. Cooperate said up until that Saturday that someone from the store or the regional manager would call me. Nobody did. I called again Monday the 3rd of April and got told they were getting my correct tires in on Wednesday the 5th of April and someone would call me the same day to make an appointment. Nobody ever called me, I got a text saying my appointment was for April 5th at 8:00 am. Luckily I was available, but what if I wasn't? Anyway, I was grateful they were going to replace my tires with the correct ones for free. I go to pick up the car, and somehow my new correct-size tires are rubbing on the insides against the coilers. My old tires that were 225/45R17 never rubbed against the coils. I am leaving one star because I spent lots of money on my tires, got the wrong tires, and had a horrible customer service problem. I'd recommend getting your tires off of tire rack and having Firestone install them. They also left my hood open which could have been terrible if I went fast enough for it to flip up. read more

The car had 32,000 miles on it. Took it to Town Fair Tire they found no "rot" and rotated my tires for free. Town Fair saved me a lot of money...They must think woman are stupid. I called my mechanic and he could not get over it and said THERE IS ALMOST NO WAY 3 coils go bad at the same time. Bottom line: They get 5 stars on the basis of pure honest work. I brought my car in many months ago for an oil change, and my vehicle mfr's recommendation is 10k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first for changes. I also have an oil life indicator to tell me how things are going inside the engine, so I opted for high quality oil instead of whatever comes with oil changes at your usual in-and-out oil change service at any location. I purchased Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and filter, and asked if they would do it. They did, and it made my oil change a little bit cheaper. However, I was a little uneasy thinking that there's no way for me to know for sure that such oil and filter actually did make it into my car unless I did my own work. Someone in the shop could just take it for themself. But fast forward to last night, I was doing my own oil change for the first time, and I beheld a Mobil 1 oil filter. I was very happy to see that they did the right thing and followed through even when there was no one watching over them to check their work. I'm trying out Royal Purple in this rotation to see how performance is in comparison, but thank you to the honest people at this shop for being trustworthy. read more

I had an awful experience at Pep Boys in Bridgeport, CT recently. I just needed a bulb replaced for my tail light. It was a long wait while they figured out - three guys - what bulb to use. There was no communication. I felt ill looking at one guys mask which was extremely dirty and didn't fit over his face. It didn't seem to make a difference that I had an appointment. I eventually left my car there and returned a couple of hours later. I had to pay before I got my key back. I tested the light before I left. It was not working. I went back into the store and told them this. One young guy just shrugged his shoulders. Another guy, who I won't name here, said come back later or the next day - instead of looking at it there and then. It was an appalling experience. I did not go back. read more

I have gone here a number of times since it is close to work and I had town fair roadhazard warrantee. Just brought a Toyota Rav 4 into Pep Boys to put a full sized spare on a flat tire. Pep Boys REFUSED to swap out the flat for the spare, because it's an AWD vehicle and the difference in tread depth on the spare would ruin the transmission. They were too busy to check the spare but said that spare tires are never rotated, so we have no choice but to buy 4 new tires. So I asked them "the why do AWD vehicles carry a spare tire at all? ". Scammers. I would avoid. About a year and a half ago I went in there to get tires rotated and oil change after I'd bought a used car. The guy brought out this little gauge and told me they wouldn't rotate my tires because I only had "about 2/3 tread." Being unfamiliar and new with car maintenance, and unable to verify how old the tires were, I ended up buying all new tires (albeit not with pepboys, I found a better deal elsewhere for good tires brand new.) Fast forward to today. I was due for an oil change and tire rotation, and my regular machanic sometimes gets backed up with bigger jobs, so in order to save myself some time, I booked an appointment with these guys again. They did the oil change fine (although tried to upsell me on parts I didn't need changed). Much to my astonishment, however they turn around and again tell me that they're refusing to rotate my tires because they're too worn. I explained that the tires were within 2 years old and have not seen excessive mileage. They seemed surprised by this (because I think they keep on record services previously refused to try to urge you next time you stop by.) Still, they stuck to their story that the tires were worn. I did my own penny test and knew they were perfectly fine. I went to town fair and got them rotated without hassle an hour later. It's unacceptable to be deceptive with car maintenance. I will stick with my local machanic from here on out.... Might be a longer wait, but in the end, you can't trust chain buisnesses like this. read more

Had the worst experience at the Orange Pep Boys. I would give some friendly advice to the Orange franchise owner. Fire the manager Rich (big guy). He was belittling, arrogant and rude. Questions that seemed valid such as "how long do you think this will take" or "how close are your estimates to the actual cost" were met with eye rolling and short, curt answers. In my humble opinion his customer service acumen would be better served at the DMV on a Saturday. Pep Boys prides themselves on their customer service.... Falling WAY short with Rich. This Pep Boys doesn't even rate a single star! I have never had a good experience with this location. However, my son just recently went and purchased four new tires from them. (When I found out that he did I told him he was an idiot!) His left rear tire has a flat and I tried to make an appointment with them to get it fixed. (It is early Saturday morning.) When I called I was put on hold by Sean so he could find out whether or not we would be charged for the flat repair. (He should have known this right away.) He then came back on the line and told me that the earliest he could get the car in would be Wednesday. I reiterated again that it was Saturday morning and we couldn't wait five days to get the flat fixed. The associate, (Sean), just said that was the earliest it could be done. We just called Firestone and they said to bring the car in right away and they would some time to fix the flat today even though we didn't purchase the tires from them and they are busy. My first experience at this location was great, I needed a new headlight and they were very friendly and knowledgeable. But I cannot say the same for the experience the other day. I had hit a pothole and ended up getting a bubble in the sidewall of my front tire and it needed to be replaced. I have all wheel driving meaning all of my tires have to be in the same tread depth otherwise it will mess with my transition. I knew this already, the man who "helped" me on Monday was rude and tried to rip me off by saying I needed all 4 tires replaced because my back two tires were bald. They're not I tested the tread the day before and theres no way they went bald in a day. Come here for an oil change maybe, it'll probably be expensive. read more
