I brought my car to Pep Boys expecting a routine brake and oil change service before a major cross-country drive. What I received instead was careless, unsafe service that created a completely avoidable and incredibly stressful situation for me and my child. The technician installed my brake pads backwards--a mistake that led to a progressively louder and more alarming metal scraping noise as I drove. I had informed the technician that I was about to travel through the Yukon with my 5-year-old son at the beginning of May, when road conditions can be unpredictable. I emphasized my concerns, yet my vehicle was returned to me with a critical installation error. My son and I waited for approximately three hours in a waiting area that was playing content not appropriate for children. I was willing to wait, but it was frustrating to hear the technician--who had said he would be starting on my vehicle immediately--spend a significant amount of time with another customer who arrived after me. He even stated multiple times that he wasn't supposed to be performing the work he was doing, but was going to do it anyway. This didn't inspire much confidence, and I became increasingly uneasy about trusting my vehicle--and our safety--to this location. Unfortunately, my instincts were correct. The shop was closed on Sunday, and I had to continue my journey toward Alaska without the ability to return for a correction. I was on a strict travel schedule for work and couldn't afford the delay. I didn't know what was causing the noise and feared I'd face a costly and dangerous repair issue in a remote area. Thankfully, Kal Tire in Williams Lake, BC was able to identify and correct the issue quickly. They treated me and my child with professionalism and care, and I only wish I had gone there in the first place. Driving with brake pads installed incorrectly is not only unsafe--it's a serious oversight that should never happen at a professional auto service center. I trusted Pep Boys to prepare my vehicle for a long-distance drive with a young child, and they failed to provide even the most basic standard of care. While the technician was friendly, it was clear he was stretched too thin to give my vehicle the attention it needed. Ultimately, I wish he hadn't worked on it at all. This was an incredibly stressful and frightening ordeal, especially as a mom traveling far from home in a place I don't know well. I chose this shop specifically to avoid stress during travel, and I regret that decision completely. I strongly urge anyone considering this location to go elsewhere. Was told to change one tpms and took over 2 hrs. Went out side to watch in the bay doors every single worker just twiddling their damn thumbs playing on their phones. Doesn't take 2 hrs to change a tire pressure sensor. Talk to the mechanic and the guy at the register (Tony) didn't let us know they didn't have sensors in stock. So we waited 2.5 hrs for nothing. Ended up getting the tire put back on and left. Communication is key with business. read more

A year later I go to a different shop to replace the pads and was told I needed new rotors and then was explained to and shown that my current rotors had been resurfaced and were too thin to be safe. The tool measured them at 5mm. So I was charged for new rotors and all they did was resurface them. Back when it was called Elliott they were amazing. I scheduled an oil change online because I received a coupon. When I got there the guy said they're having problems with online scheduling and "tried to call" but I never received a call but they could squeeze me in. I waited almost an hour and half for an oil change. they didn't apply the coupon when I did pay (only reason I went there) when they were finished they didn't properly put the plastic protective cover on right underneath my car so I was driving around with it hanging and slightly dragging on the road. I called and told them what was happening so brought it back - waited another 15 mins and they said it was "all tightened up" but it looked exactly the same and the same thing continued to happen. Worst experience I've had getting my oil changed. Will not return to this place. read more

Well, I bought 4 Bridgestone tires here because they carried what my car's manufacturer suggested. I've not had good luck with these tires, but more so, Pep Boys requires 2 days prior appointment to rotate them. Just sayin- no comparison to my ole standby Les Schwab. read more

I just had a flat tire and jacked it up only to find out I'm was missing a crow bar. So I'm out in this cold snow walking around to see if anyone will help me with lending a crow bar. We had our GMC Envoy towed to Pep Boys in Mount Vernon, WA on Monday, February 12th. Just a month or so before we had previously had them replace the brakes and rotors on the same car and HAD been happy with the service and decided to try them again. This time it was a problem with the transfer case not working properly. From the second the car was dropped off, everything went down hill from there. The part needed to be ordered (which was supposedly done Tuesday), it should have been there Friday, and the repair should have been complete by the following Tuesday, so basically we were promised a week time frame. TWO WEEKS later, after multiple calls to the manager and district manager trying to get updates or any information at all about the repairs, we were constantly met with lies and excuses. First the part came and the car will be ready by the end of the day, just to be told before closing that the part never came. This happened at least three times. They also tried to blame another dealership for losing the part after we hit the one and a half week mark of no fixed car. They had originally quoted us $2400 for the repairs and after everything that happened, took only $500 off the bill. We didn't have the car back home for more than half an hour before we had to take it to another shop because they still had not properly fixed the issue. We now have the check engine light, check gauges light, oil pressure light on, no oil pressure, and a warning that says stop engine. None of these were on before we dropped it off with Pep Boys. We were given a loaner vehicle during the time our car sat in their lot with 220K miles, leaked massive amounts of oil, leaving a two foot stain on our driveway that we have to try to clean up, and a sticking gas pedal. While they did eventually get us a better rental through Enterprise so that we were not stuck with the embarrassment of a vehicle they let us borrow, does not make up for the fact that the complete lack of communication and lies and a more broken down vehicle then we had left them with, which will now cost us even more money to have properly fixed. We sincerely hope that they will do the right thing in contacting us in an attempt to come to a better agreement as to solving all of these issues. $1900 is way to much money to have paid out just to have it come back in far worse shape. read more
