Worst place ever. Came in to get my ONE tire change. Got here at 7pm and they close at 8pm. The employee in the store was very helpful and try to help as much as he can. While the technician/mechanic employee say he can't do it, but he apparently have so much time to just WALK AROUND and SMOKING. Not even doing anything! Not only that, another employee came out accusing that we were trying to steal his car just because he has the same car like ours, when we were just fixing our own tire since pep boy wouldn't do it. Like did he not know where he park his car and his license plate. When proven him wrong, his excuse was "oh my bad, I don't ever see anyone with an SI driving around here". I probably won't be going back here. I brought my Jeep in to purchase a battery and have it installed. When I came back to get it and pulled out of the parking lot the Check Engine Light came on (this has NEVER happened before). I drove it right back and the cashier who helped me claimed it was on when I dropped it off, which I know 100% it was not. After arguing with me back and forth I was told I would have to pay a $90 diagnostic fee to have them see why that light came on. I told them that wasn't happening. The "manager was out" that day, so this was all between myself and two cashiers. I ended up having the codes ran (and explained to me by the mechanics in the back) and cleared for FREE, and the light has not come back on. I discovered I had a flat tire yesterday, and I typically fill my tires back up with an air compressor I have at home. Unfortunately when I got home I discovered the compressor was broken. My coworker told me that pep boys, which was fairly close to my work, would fill my tires for free. Earlier that day I called and someone told me I could just pull into Bay one and let someone know what I was there for. When I got there there was a line of cars parked in front of what I assumed was Bay one, as I saw no number one. Since I wasn't sure I left my car in the line, got out, and went inside to ask. When I got to the counter and told the man nearest me, why I was there, he said I could just park and they would come out. I asked him if I needed to park and wait in the line, or where exactly I needed to park? He then replied, with a flat face, "No, this isn't the dealership. Just park anywhere and we'll come out." His tone was that of someone who was annoyed by the dumb person asking the question, and as I walked away I heard both of them laughing about it. It is not my fault that I do not know their procedures as I have never been there before. Like I said usually I do it myself. I drove away, and while getting my tires filled may have been free, they have lost and the other business I may have given them. I called West Coast Wheel's and Tires across the street, and the man that answered the phone did not treat me like I was stupid, and explained everything, and even showed me where to go. He also told me that if I need a repair on my tire, as I got my tires filled there for free, that it would cost only 20 bucks. I just really don't appreciate when a service clerk keeps lying to me. There is a clerk at the Clovis Pep Boys who seem to be doing that to me all the time. Today was the 3rd or 4th time that he misinformed and/or screwed with me one way or another. I used to like Pep Boys, but because of this clerk I am not going back there anymore. Unfortunately, this time I had to, because I had warranty on my battery. I told the clerk that AAA already diagnosed it and they said it was a bad battery. He immediately dismissed this diagnosis and said it might be the alternator. But he said if it's a bad battery they will replace it. I asked how much time it takes. He said about an hour. After the hour was over I went back to him and he claimed he never told it would be an hour. What am I supposed to with that when he lies straight back to my face. Anyhow, of course, it was a bad battery and they replaced it and after close to 2 hours I am ready to pay. Although I am not sure why I should pay for installation when it was Pep Boys who sold me the bad battery on the first place and I already paid for installation at that time. In fact, I purchased the best and most expensive battery back then that Pep Boys had to offer which was a Bosch 65. It turns out though that they installed an inferior Champion 65 battery instead of the Bosch. I ask the clerk why not the Bosch, that's what I had originally. He tells me that Pep Boys doesn't carry Bosch batteries any longer. Then I point it out to him that right behind him there were quite a bunch of Bosch batteries on the shelf. Then the story changes again, now it becomes that Pep Boys doesn't carry Bosch 65 any longer. Well, according to the website it does (see attached image). For both the Champion and Bosch batteries the website indicated next day availability for the Clovis location. And the Champion 65 was right there, because they installed it. I don't know if the Bosch 65 was on location or not, but sure they could have asked me if I wanted to wait another day for the same battery instead of automatically installing an inferior one. But even if they did that, nobody offered me to pay back the difference between the current prices of the two batteries. So, in short, they made me pay for installing an inferior and cheaper (on current price) battery into my car. I don't know if it is just this clerk or the whole organization, but for sure I always seem to have terrible experience with this clerk and I am not going back to Pep Boys ever again. (Unless if he gave me another faulty battery in which case I will have to keep replacing them.) The next day the Pep Boys online parts phone representative confirmed it to me that the Clovis location did indeed have a Bosch 65 battery. Not the exact same SKU number that I had, but another one. A complete dumpster fire with an open for business sign out front! My 21 yr old daughter decided to go to this Pep Boys to have her AC fixed (wasn't blowing any cold air) which they recommended a full charge for $380. A week later, the air was blowing hot again. After refusing to see the car that day (they were too busy according to the store manager) they finally agreed to check the car 2 days later, which is BS considering $380 already went into this AC problem and it's still not fixed. On the return job, they said that the condenser is leaking and needed to be replaced- $850. Did it really just start leaking or did you mis-diagnose the initial problem and fully charge a leaking AC system, then take my kids $380 and call it good! I mean, why would a competent person fully charge an AC system knowing that it's leaking? Didn't anyone stop to ask, "why is there no Freon in this thing?" All I got from the staff was horse $hit! And to add to this dumpster fire, they left the fuse box open, the cover laying on the engine and an electrical tester hanging out of the hood! People looking for work on their cars, do yourself a favor and find a reputable mechanic and stay away from places like this to diagnose auto problems! Oil changes and flat tires are one thing, but complex issues should really be kept with the pros (and I don't mean Pep Boys)! The horn went out on my old car. Since Pep Boys is within walking distance of my house and I was on summer break, I decided to have it fixed there. They told me it would cost $300 and my car would be ready the next morning. The next morning I called to see if the car was ready. I was told to call back after 1:00 p.m. When I called the second time, I was told that the mechanic who was working on my car had gone home sick. They told me another mechanic couldn't work on my car because it was the first mechanic's project. (Apparently, having a second mechanic hone in on another's project is a breach of Mechanic Etiquette. Who'd have thunk it?) They decided to bill me about 300 just to check it and then they kept my car for a week saying that they couldn't find the problem and they'd have to keep it another week to order parts. I used to bring my car here all the time because i thought they were reliable but I'm afraid to go back ever again. I brought my car in because i thought something was wrong with my brake. The service started around 12:30pm then they old me what was wrong with my car. I was looking at about an $1000 bill until my Boyfriend told me he was able to do some of the work him self. So, I only needed Pep Boys to take care of one part. Which was only suppose to take 2hours which turned to 4hours. I didn't end up leaving until they closed. Before i left the manager approached me a apologized for the long wait and gave me a generous discount on the service. The scary part was that when my boyfriend and his friend was working on the car the next day to change out the brake pads and front rotors. When they were taking the tire off they notices that the 4 lug nuts holding my passenger side tires were loose. They were not tightened. When they told me i was able to remove them just with my fingers. On top of that all the nails on the rotor and the nut on the back of the rotor, not sure what those pieces are called, but they were all finger loose. I was so scared and shocked. Good thing i didn't go on the freeway or hit any big bumps or dips. My tire could have come off completely. It just make me feel unsafe and that they don't care about the safety of their customers. read more

When we got there this morning they said they have only 3 of the kind of tires I wanted,but when I called they said they had all four. The A/C in my car went out and it was diagnosed that we would need a compressor etc replaced. Ended up costing 1700+. The next day the A/C stopped turning on, no air coming from the vehicle. We took it back and were told that everything works and that we weren´t turning it on correctly. They also said that because the car is old it may take a while to turn on. I took it on they reevaluated the a/c and now they say the blower needs to be replaced and a sensor. My question was why wasn´t this diagnosed or ruled out before we replaced all of these parts?On top of the 1700 they want 1100 dollars for something that was probably the cause of all of this. Best service I've had....I normally go to Wal-Mart but Pep Boys are even better at pricing and service. I can't ask for more. Not only that they have special coupons online most of the time that'll help save extra bucks. Their service is great. One perfect example of that was when I went in just about 30 minutes before closing time, my bf at the time needed a new battery because his was completely dead. Pep boys already had 2 cars lined up ahead of us and still took us in and helped us install a new battery even though they had to couldn't take any more walk-ins. Dan was the associate who went out of his way to help us, so thank you Dan. And I just wanted to say that Pep Boys rock! I will be going to Pep Boys more often. Just to add- this is my 3rd time having their service and all 3 experiences have been great- except for the waiting an hour or two sometimes. I had my car towed here because it broke down and wouldn't idle once I started it. I wasn't sure if pep boys would be able to fix the problem but I was hoping they could at least diagnose the problem so I could either fix it myself or take it to an actual mechanic to get it fixed. They ran the diagnostic and quoted me $500+ to do some pretty basic things that I knew would not help my car run. So, I had them only do an oil change and run the diagnostic again. Also, my car was there from open to close. I called numerous times to see the status of my car only to have someone tell me they are still working on it. Finally, at the very end of the day, they told me they couldn't fix it and said I would need to tow it out of their lot. I towed it to an actual mechanic who was able to diagnose the problem accurately. The fix did not require any of the things pep boys said would help. If you need anything done outside of basic maintenance, look elsewhere. read more

This review is based off of five different visits. Once visit they or their computer failed to diagnose the problem with my car. The next time around I just asked them to put in a new starter and viola that was what it was . I am not even a mechanic. Other visits were for tires and brakes. The staff was always friendly and always explained what they were going to do and always gave me a clear estimate. Their waiting room is not pretty but not the most horrible mechanic waiting room I have ever been in. They have a bathroom and a selection of car magazines to read so if you are not interested in cars bring your own book. Totally disppointed in Clovis Pep Boys. I used to go to them for all of my service needs but this will no longer be the case! I took my car in for an oil change, headlight restoration and a noise my car was making when my car was idling. I have a 2006 Scion TC After the oil change and headlight restoration was completed they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with my car and that I should just take it to the dealer. So, that night I picked my car up and the headlights looked AWFUL! I told them how disappointed I was and that I would call back in the morning to speak with the manager. I spoke with Sal, the service manager the next day and he told me the guy that worked on my headlights was just so so and that he wanted me to come in when their other guy was in. So, I did. When I brought my back he also told me he would have someone again look at my car to figure out why it was making such a loud noise. They finally got the headlights right but still told me they didn't know why my car was making the noise. At this point I continue to drive my car and a week later I break down in the middle of 5 o'clock traffice on a one lane road in the middle of construction. It was horrible. Got my car towed to Clovis Toyota where they told me my alternator and battery were completely shot! I cannot believe I had my car in there three times and they still couldn't diganose something as simple as this! Probably the worst experience I have ever had with an automotive shop in my life. I was getting ready to go on a trip and I had just checked my fluids and when I was about to check my tire pressure, my gauge broke on me, so I decided to go to the nearest auto shop to see if they would check my tire pressure. I go to Pep Boys where they've recently sold off their parts section to Advanced Auto Parts and built a wall to separate the two business'. The Pep Boys side looks awful with the floor looking like it's half concrete and half old torn up linoleum. No one was at the counter at the time, but eventually someone came and I asked if someone was available to check my tire pressure. The guy at the counter said to just pull around back and someone would help me. I pull my SUV around the back and waited, and waited, and waited. There were two mechanics sitting basically right in the line of sight of me on their phone doing absolutely nothing, and refused to help. They have chains that I assume are there to keep customer's out of the garage, but none of the chains were up, and I was just about to grab the tire pressure gauge and do it myself. After waiting for what felt like forever, I just left and went to a small tire shop where they found a nail in that was too close to the side to safely repair. They suggested I replace 2 tires since my tires were about 4 years old and they're all terrain BFG tires, so I would've definitely felt a pull if I only changed one. Because this small tire shop took the time to help me, I had never been happier to spend $2000 on a new set of tires. My girlfriend's Lexus was due for tires a few months later, and I spent another $1500 with them as well. Just goes to show that by just helping someone, you could have yourself a potential sale. Now I only go to Pep Boys for their oil change specials, and when they suggest any other service or repairs, I take it elsewhere. read more

Complete waste of time!!!! Brought my vehicle in to have brakes serviced (the only reason why I chose this place was because they were open on Sunday and they assured me the work could completed the same day). Four hours after dropping off my vehicle I received a call that the mechanic could not find my wheel locks I drove back to pep boys opened the trunk and looked next to my spare tire and what do you know the wheel lock key is where it's supposed to be. Again I was assured that my vehicle would be ready before the end of the day. A couple hours l received a call and was notified that yes indeed my car required brake pads and new rotors unfortunately they only had one rotor in stock therefore my vehicle would not be ready. I expressed my disappointment with the gal that wrote up the work order and she stated that they never promised the car would be ready the same day rather the free inspection would be completed the same day. Finally the free inspection is a joke I received the report and there's zero information as to the condition of the brake pads or rotors the only info is un legible notes as to when I called and my decline of their services I learned my lesson first and last time I ever waste my day at an unorganized business. read more
