My dad had this super creepy mechanic that he always went to. I asked him once why he used this guy and he said when you find a good mechanic use them often. The first time I used a Pep Boys I had my wife, dog and a pile of groceries in the car when I suddenly saw my tire pressure dropping quickly. I managed to pull into a nearby Pep Boys as the tire completely went flatand not only did they immediately replace the tire so I could catch a ferry to my home island, they put our groceries in their fridge while we went next door for lunch. Cut to ABQ. I've lived here just about 16 months and I've had 3 leaking tires; all of which turned out to be nails or screws. What is up with that? I also have a new hand me down Subaru which developed an EVAP drain clog so all the water was splashing into the passenger side of the car. For all of these I went to Pep Boys and all 4 times they made the repair within an hour and all three times it was dirt cheap, mostly the standard repair charge. For the evap system I went home and it was ready by the time I got home. These guys are friendly and super fast. And they're so efficient and nice that people waiting in the lobby are friendly with each other. The last time I waited there, some college kids who were waiting were praciticing a Tik Tok dance and it was like a little party. I highly recommend Pep Boys and the Central Ave Location specifically. read more

Beware, beware, beware!!! $306 to install a serpentine belt. A $50 part that should take easily under a half hour of shop time to install. They said their shop rate was $191 per hour .... so $306 ??? Called corporate to open a complaint inquiry and only response was the service manager from this location calling me back with BS talk. They also did not adjust the belt properly so it squeeked when starting, and, they did not tell me the power steering belt, right next to it was hard and about to come apart. A fair shop charged me $117 to install the power steering belt, part included, and to properly adjust the serpentine belt. Beware this is a shop that overcharges!!! read more

I was charged $515.99 for faulty work performed on my vehicle's air conditioning system. Despite paying in full, the air conditioner was not properly repaired and continues to malfunction. I returned the vehicle shortly after the service was completed to inform Pep Boys that the issue was unresolved, but they failed to adequately correct the problem. Pep Boys thought if they removed the entire dash board from my car that they might find a leak somewhere and that that would cost $1,800.00 to perform! I declined. I did not receive the service I paid for, and therefore the charge is unjustified. I disputed with my bank and after 90 days, the dispute fell in favor of TheftBoys. Buyer beware! Nov 2024, Montaño & Coors location: Scheduled appt and they were 2hrs behind when I arrived -- it happens every now and again, not an major problem for me this day. What was heinous? LIED ABOUT MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. Added tire rotation when scheduling oil change online. Confirmed tire rotation when speaking to Maint Mgr upon drop off. When I picked up my vehicle, the paperwork stated tires were rotated - they were not (I mark my tires - they were not rotated). When approaching the manager, he said he lied "because they were busy, do they really need to be rotated?"........ questioning a customers request, wtf??!! Being busy & running behind isn't desired but it's normal. Lying to customers about maintenance completed is not only dangerous and unprofessional, but DISHONORABLE. My car got a check engine light on my road trip home from Texas to California. We stayed the night night in Albuquerque, and tried to fix the problem on our own and couldn't. We called this Pep Boys to see if they could fix the problem, which was the fuel pump. They let me bring the fuel pump I bought from O'Reillys, and they were able to switch them out for us. Although that turned out to not be the problem, Zeke was able to get off the lock which had been giving us trouble all night. He even injured himself in the process, so we were super thankful that he finally managed to get it off. The manager on duty also was able to squeeze us in as soon as we got there even though they had a busy day. We really were itching to get home, so it was great that they were able to do that for us! The only reason I give such a low review is because I wouldn't take my car here for more than a basic oil change. There are a few workers that are super helpful but for the most part you will be ignored when you walk in. My oil change has been done correctly but my tire rotation has never been done. Nothing special just a normal mechanic shop. read more

One of our camper trailer's tires was losing air, so we pulled off I40 and found this place. They immediately came to offer help. Our bad tire wasn't patchable so they changed the tire, putting our spare on. When we went in to pay, they said there was no charge, even though we did it but the tires there. I came here on a Sunday as my last resort to get 2 tires patched up. Small holes that would have taken atleast 20 minutes to plug up. The guy who greeted me was friendly at first and asked what he could help me with. But then after that I told him what I needed he told me that he did not have time to do the small job and that I should leave because they would be closing soon. Keep it mind that on Sunday they close at 5 and I showed up at 3:30. I told him that they are small holes and just need a patch job. This team was so empathetic & helpful! I'm driving from Orange County to Nashville with my 2 long haired Persian cats when I realized cold air wasn't coming out of the AC and one of my cats (13 years old) started to over heat and started panting heavily. With more than 1/2 way to go I pulled over and started calling around for same day service. This location was my 5th attempt and I think Aaron could hear the distress in my voice and quickly told me "just come on in-we'll take care of you and get you on the road today" he also mentioned that his team loves animals- especially cats! They were so kind to me & my boys & even showed me pictures and videos of their pets while I waited. They even kept the waiting area cool for us. I was back on the road in 1.5 hours, with nice cool air to keep everyone happy and healthy! I made an appointment for the following day but then managed to call and find one for today which I appreciated that they fit me into there schedule. I went in for an oil change and tire rotation in which I gave my information and informed them that's what I needed completed. They were finished with my car rather quickly after telling me it would take 30-45 minutes. I then asked the gentlemen at the counter if the tire rotation was also done on my vehicle. He checked with the guys and was told it was not. I'm disappointed with the fact that I mentioned I needed a tire rotation three separate times before it got done. I then stood outside to make sure it was completed. I was given a good price but would rather go somewhere else in order to ensure that the needs of my vehicle are met. read more

I just got an oil change here 4 days ago and it was great! It was easy to make an appointment online, they accepted a 30% off coupon, they finished within 30 minutes of bringing the car (I even snuck a 3 mi run in while waiting). Manny the ?manager or ?owner was really kind despite being overwhelmed and very personable. I got a virtual report super fast on how my car was doing, and my car stopped making this weird noise during acceleration (I'm guessing something to do with the oil viscosity or filter) and thumping sound with pressing the brakes after they tuned it up. Yesterday: Pep Boys Auto Parts If I could I would give the Central store below ZERO stars. This store has had my car for 23days! They can NOT or WILL NOT tell me when it will be ready. If they did not have the capacity to do the $2200 work - I would NOT have left it with them NOR would I have given them $500 to start the work. I have talked with the store manager several times which was no help . I have called the regional manager Carlos Escobar twice maybe 3x - got an indirect referral back to the store - NO help. I'm a 64 yr old veteran who works every day and NEEDS my car !!! PEP Boys HOW and WHEN can I get my car back? DO NOT I repeat DO NOT take your car Here . I would update this with zero stars if I could. After I wrote my initial review, it still took forever for my oil change. I saw my car come down off the rack, then go back up. What the hell. They showed me a huge "oil" leak and sold me a bottle of stop leak to deal with it and tried to sell me other services. I was uncomfortable with this PepBoys but decided to try one up the street to deal with the "oil" leak that PepBoys brought up. The other PepBoys kept wanting to sell me the same $100 engine diagnostic to "check the codes." There was NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. There were no codes to check. I needed someone to visually check the fluid leak and get to the bottom of the problem, and I wasn't going to let PepBoys on Central near my car again. The PepBoys social media team responded here and several emails went back and forth. They offered to "open a claim" but when I tried to find out what that meant they went silent. A claim for WHAT? I have no money to recoup; they changed my oil but it was a pain in that ass and I don't trust them now. I googled and googled until I found a local mechanic described as honest and thank God I did - he wiped the "oil" with his finger, and it was red. Pulled out the transmission dipstick - EMPTY. PepBoys didn't even bother to check the transmission fluid, which is standard with an oil change!! They were going to take $100 from me for nothing and destroy my transmission because they were making up an "oil" problem that DIDN'T EXIST. I am escalating my complaint from saying this PepBoys is merely immature and lacks leadership to that they are actually negligent. Negative one star until they make a MAJOR change in leadership and philosophy. This is bordering on a scam. BUYER BEWARE. read more

First, let me explain our current situation: I am moving from NYC to LA. With me are my sister, a friend, and an English bulldog. In case you did not know, English Bulldogs do not do well in the heat and can collapse and die from exhausted if exposed to heat for a prolong time. Here is the issue: AC broke down right as we got to Nashville. Pep boys in Nashville said we needed to replace the AC compressor. They first said they had the part, then said they don't have the part, then said they ordered the part and we had to wait a day. The following day I arrived and they informed me that the part was not placed and that I'd have to wait 5 hours for the part to arrive. When we finally got the AC compressor, I was informed that there was a part in the compressor that does not match my car and would have to wait another 45 minutes to have it rushed over. After two days, the compressor was installed and we left Nashville. (It took two days to resolve to issue and $1100!) After 30 minutes of driving leaving from Nashville the AC stopped working. We called up pep boys in Nashville and we were told to go to Little Rock AR to fix issue free of charge. We got to Little Rock late at night because the fix in Nashville took forever and we were forced to stay in a motel and wait for Peo Boys in Little Rock to open. Went to pep boys in the morning. We were told that they do not have anyone available to fix the car and that we should drive to Oklahoma City (5hr drive with no AC) and that they are going to fix the issue once we arrive. We arrived in pep boys in OK city and were told we are not scheduled and that their mechanic is gone until Tuesday. After explaining our situation, they attempted to fix the issue on the spot. The issue was due to the compressor PSI being too high causing a valve to be closed. They set the correct PSI and the AC in the car worked....for 12 hours. The next day the AC stopped working. We drove through 3 states in the month of August with no AC. We still have to drive through NM, Arizona, and Nevada. Driving in the heat with no AC with a dog is unacceptable. I would advise any one to avoid getting your car fixed at any of the locations at all cost. Their mechanics do not seem capable or knowledgeable. If parts are needed they are incredibly slow to get and the labor hours are incredibly expensive. There is obviously no communications between stores. I attempted to call customer relation at their 1800 number. No one picked up, even during business hours. When I attempted to leave a message, the mail box was full. (Shows you how many people called to complain). I will be going to the Pep Boys in Albuquerque to demand a refund or for them to pay for an outside mechanic to fix my AC. I was driving home from work around 6:30pm when a tire pressure warning came on in my car. I used Siri to find a tire store close to me that was still open - the closest turned out to be Pep Boys on Central. I pulled in and went to the service area. A man met me there and when I asked if he could fill up the one low tire, he said that he'd need to fill out a service form and there was a car ahead of me that I'd need to wait until it was repaired. While I understand how lines work, the owner of the other car wasn't there, there was more than one technician there and only the one car, and I didn't wish to wait for who knows how long for that car to be serviced so my tire could be filled with air. The man I talked to suggested I go to another Pep Boys, and when I politely said no, he tried to explain their policy and why I'd need to wait. As I walked away he told me he hated to turn down customers... A quick Siri search turned up Empire Tires about 1/2 mile away. They were just closing, but the man working there told me he'd help me anyway - no service report, no wait. After he was done filling the low tire and checking the other three (total elapsed time :45 seconds) I gave him a $10 tip for his efforts. I won't be going to Pep Boys in the future, but will try Empire the next time I have an issue. read more

Went to store for tire warranty replacement, was told me about an hour and a half wait, turned into 2 and a half. When they finally got to my truck, they informed me that this store was the only one in town that didn't have my tire. The technician said that they could replace the tire with a different model, they could order the tire, or I could go to one of the other stores which did have my tire. At NO time was there a mention of a pro rate charge to replace the tire, the tread was never even measured. They were going to do it for free at this store. When I get to the next store (review separately) they measure the tread and want to charge more than half what I paid for the tire. The manager told me that this store's employees said I was told of the pro rate which is a flat out lie by the other manager or this store's employees. Either way, they are lying and implying that I lied, terrible customer treatment. That is a big problem when it comes to keeping my business. Not at all satisfied with the encounter and will take my business elsewhere. read more

I would stay away from this place and all of PEP Boys location because if they allow this to go on at one place, who knows how bad the whole company may be in regards to incompetent mechanical repairs. The auto service shop is outstanding! The most professional and friendly staff I have ever come across in the auto care industry! I had to have a tire alignment, as I was headed out of town. They squeezed me in, explained the problem and rotated the tires all in under and hour and even provided coffee and great conversation. This is how business should be done! read more

In my 40 years I have never had a worse experience with auto repair. I took my truck in because the brakes were noisy (but the truck stopped fine). $600 later and the truck barely stops at all after I took it to them, the truck is now not drivable.
