Got my official Peoria Public Library card and what a beautiful library it is! Plenty of ample parking. Conveniently located right off Grand Ave. We were greeted immediately upon entering. My wife and I both requested library cards and the whole process took just a few minutes. Very friendly staff that know what they're doing. Open 11a - 5p on Saturdays with an enormous fiction and non-fiction section. You also have the ability to rent games, movies, laptops and a host of other items. It is incredibly clean and everything is spaced out nicely so you could easily sit here and do some work. There is even am awesome outdoor seating area with umbrellas! This library branch is clean and bright. The branch is two floors. I have only visited thus far for the children's services. The children's area is it's own section of the lower wing. Complete with it's own area to check out books, the children's section also has it's own help desk. Children's activities are well planned. We attended one that had a guest presenter, then two activities. Presenation was for elementary school kids, while the activities were more preschool age. Various reading rewards programs with insensitives throughout the year. My kids just did one where the prize was In N Out burgers. Looking forward to the summer programs. Is gardening your hobby? Not sure about gardening, and want to try? Check out their seed program. Yep you actually may "Checkout" seeds. The seeds stay on your account for three weeks then drop off. The seeds and envelopes do not need to be returned. Each envelope has three seeds. Multiple envelopes may be "checked out" for the same variety of seed. Only three seeds per envelope. If available, you may want to checkout multiple envelopes of the same variety. Seeds do count against the total number of items that may be checked out at a time. Seeds are located just before the children's section. Activity passes may be checked out from this branch. These passes allow admission for two to various Arizona attractions. Came here to apply for my passport, I received fast and friendly service. The library looked very new and clean.

I'm sure my rating will increase once the construction is complete. I originally got my library card around 2005 and things looked a lot different. Fast forward to November 2021 and I'm back! I created a count online, which results in a pacreg card, because I didn't think mine existed anymore. I was able to select my new card & I learned I had a .20 cent or .40 cent late fee. My new card has an owl on it, but they have other great designs such as a unicorn. The library is almost completely renovated! I'm sure it will be amazing pretty darn soon. read more

Cant wait to get more acquainted with my local library. Staff was so helpful at my first visit in. I obtained my library card quickly and got on my way to browsing. Lots of sections to fit a variety of reader's interest. The self check out feature was easy and pretty cool. The audio book section is huge! We recently moved to Peoria from Phoenix. This is the library that is walking distance from our house now, and we've been a handful of times. My first impulse is to give it 3 stars, especially when compared to the other libraries we are used to (in Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale) but I will be a little generous, as my son loves to come here and play in the kids area (even though it's mostly a kitchen with play food - which we have at home - kids, right?) Negatives: For one thing, the movie selection is sort of dismal. I come to the library to check out old movies, especially foreign. I understand that my tastes are kind of niche, but all of the other libraries we go to have a decent selection for me to choose from. At this branch I have found a few classic American movies (the most famous titles only) and nothing else. Also, as several reviewers have noted, there is no food or drink allowed in here (and obviously no place to purchase food or drink as in other libraries). When I was a student I would sit for hours studying at the library with coffee and snacks. When I start teaching I will do the same when I have to create lesson plans, but I won't be able to do that here. What a bummer. Positives: The kids books selection is very good for a smaller library. (I don't know about the rest of the book sections; we haven't explored them yet). Like I said, my toddler loves to play in the kids area. Last but not least, it's a public library. I appreciate the service they provide to the community. Positives: It's quiet and attracts a wide manner of readers, students and such that just want to get their business done. The graphic novel selection is large enough to be stunning, and offers a large selection of series for your enjoyment. Great for us graphic novel readers that don't want to be left hanging after Books 1 and 2. The outside seating area overlooks a taste of Peoria's quiet nature. There's a cafe closeby, open Monday-Thursday. Negatives: The movie selection is rather small, plus the tv shows are smushed in with the movies. Not really that organized. I love this library. My 4yr old son and I go 2 times a month we are always in the kids area. The collection display we always look forward to seeing as well as the Lego display. We have been to story time which my son loves a lot. I let my son free to get books as well occasionally he will pick a few DVDs to watch. The childrens librarian is very helpful if you ever need help. They have a computer area for kids thag is kid friendly. The bathroom is kid friendly the size is great for them to be comfortable. They also have an are for Spanish. A documentary selection for kids and young youth, the comic book selection is cool. There is a study area for kids to read and a little activity center. read more

I like my local library I visit it about once a month. I have a long history of library patronage, going back to my grammar school days when I participated in summer reading programs. During my senior year in high school I worked as a page in my home town. Yes, I was commonly called "Marian the Librarian." PPL is a very standard suburban library where you can borrow books, DVDs, CDs etc., aside from one of the more curious items I have seen at a library, is the gun storage lockers outside the main entrance. read more

My friend had brought me to the purposeful play it was a blast! Mrs. Gabby is very knowledgeable and very interactive. I would give her FIVE STARS! However when we were done we took my friends two toddlers and my daughter to the toddler computers they say down of course having a discussion about who sits where. A couple times they went about talking decibel because well they are toddlers and they were confused on why their friends game looked more fun and wanted to share with their friend. Anyways the librarian came up to us and said "I could hardly hear my phone call your kids are so loud" "we need to use inside voices I'm surprised these people haven't said anything (pointing to two grown people without kids in the KIDS area) then she proceeded with we need to learn how to use our inside voice"! OMGOODNESS! I have NEVER dealt with anyone so rude! Let me tell you something we were no louder then the play group of kids that were consistently being loud so why weren't they talked to ? Also this is the children's section didn't realize they weren't allowed to be children! Inside voices they are 2 seriously I don't know of any toddler that knows what that means or cares, They are somewhere new and surrounded with so much fun things to do! I hope the next time we come "IF" we come back we are treated with happiness and respect and our children being allowed to be kids. Also side note what if we had a special needs child with us? What special needs individuals can't come to the library because they get over whelmed or overly stimulated or they make stimming noises? read more

4 stars: yay! Im a fan. Im a homeschoolin momma and our cirriculum has us taking trips to the library every week. I have tried 4 different libraries around me and this is the best out of all of them. The other libraries had way smaller childrens sections and selections were not as extensive as this. I really cant account for the rest of the library to compare with the others. I just know theres two floors full of books and I usually find what Im looking for. Clean, friendly workers, and lots of weekly activities. Makes coming here weekly easy and fun :) read more

Kids area has nice toys but are dirty. Brought my toddlers to a story time and the worker told my 1.5 year old she needed a nap in a rude tone because she didn't want to walk in a circle with the other kids. They also allowed babies diapers to be changed on the floor during story time right where all the babies/toddlers were sitting/crawling around. Gross!! read more

I like this library. It's cute and small. Yes they do have events at times and kids activities but that's what libraries do sometimes. Most of the times I've gone (and I'm there all day sometimes) it's pretty quiet. Granted I've never actually used any of their books or selections because I usually go just for a quiet place, no ones ever been rude. read more

The worst library ever. I went in thinking i was going to be able to work on my research paper in a quit place. I was wrong. It seemed more like an amusement park with a loud speaker. They had some kind of event going on. Even with my headphones in the cheering, clapping, and loud speaker was too much. I couldn't focus on my paper. read more

I take my grandson now for a few years to this library. He does some of the reference work for school here and books for required reading etc. We've checked out movies as well and the staff are always so welcoming and helpful. Today I stopped by for a movie I've been wanting to watch and all the copies were out. The kind lady said that one was supposed to be returned today and they'd call. No sooner had I got home they left a message that it was in. So I went and picked it up. This is such a rewarding experience every time I need to get something done. This is the most ridiculously confusing library I have ever seen. Getting in the parking lot is a maze that I have only once figured out. It is horribly labeled and I have given up on it. The Sunrise Mountain branch is much better. On the one time that I did successfully make it in, I found the service to be a bit rude. I'm quite positive that I won't be returning to this confusing location, especially now that I know about the other Peoria library. read more

This library makes me feel like libraries just aren't the same any more. There is always way too much noise in here, especially in the adult computer section. The library staff doesn't seem to care about others trying to have a quiet place to work. What happened to the librarians who used to politely ask people to quiet down in the library? Last year I asked the woman in the children's section why it was so noisy and was told that they don't require the kids to talk softly anymore because they are playing games on the computers and talking to each other. Ok. I left that one alone and I don't sit downstairs with my child anymore. It's worse upstairs. I can see the occasional cell phone slip up or someone speaking softly to another person, but the noise is crazy. There's a guy snoring at the table by one computer, 4 teens laughing and dancing around loudly at the next,and a teen girl yelling at and disrespecting her mother at another one. The library staff hasn't gotten up from that desk and said one word about either. read more

Terrible customer service. If you forget your library card they will reluctantly check you our , but warn you that if it happens again you will be charged $1. Make sure you have the librarian check you out. If the material you pick up was damaged when you received it, they will not believe you when it is returned. You will get a notice of fine and then less than 24 hours later a threat of being sent to a collection agency. Talk about over kill! read more

Their customer service sucks. They didn't seem to have a great selection to choose from. They also don't offer much in the way of public service. They were also inconsistent about what they do offer. Over the phone I was told I could use a scanner (because they have it and it doesn't cost them anything) when I came in they told me to try staples. read more

I came to the library to study for an important exam and take some practice tests. The separate quiet room (there is only one...) was taken and therefore I had to sit at one of the computer stations. Although at times it was good, some of the time I was there (I was there for three hours) when the library staff was talking, joking, and laughing about personal stuff at a regular decibel level. They were also talking to patrons at a regular decibel level. Now, I understand that staff has to talk to patrons to give them information and I can even understand talking to co-workers, but when did it become acceptable to use a regular speaking voice in a library? Whispering accomplishes the same thing without disturbing others that are there for the quiet! Staff really should work harder at keeping the environment quiet and whisper when they need to talk to patrons and other staff members when they are around others who are obviously working and studying. read more

The Peoria Public Library offers a lot to it's community. I happen to donate my laptop to a family member. Since she didn't have one. I went to the Peoria Public Library to check out their books and computers. Their staff is very involved. They always ask me if need any help and other members.The library is very well organized. I have gone to this place for a long time, but over the years I have noticed that this library is one of the worst ones I have EVER gone to not only for how damaged the books are but how unorganized, unprofessional, and unfriendly the staff is. Unfortunately for me, It's the closest one to where I live. Some of my stores of complaints: 3/5/07 - I returned a book and a 3 months latter they had started billing me for it saying I had never returned it. I had to buy the book from them, just so they would leave me alone and stop charging me late fees. 6/19/13 - While looking for a book, I was turning a corner and bumped into some short teen with glasses and dark colored hair and she started cursing me out for bumping into her and made her drop her phone. Wasn't till I saw she had a staff badge that I took it seriously and tried to report it to a supervisor, who the people at the lower counter at the calmed wasn't there at the time. Well unfortunately, every time I tried to get a hold of a supervisor there to report the incident, they where apparently never there. 9/15/13 - I had turned in some books and had three I wanted to check out again. While checking it out again the person at the counter said that I owed them money because the books that I had just turned in and the three I was checking out again where late. I told them that it couldn't be right because the slip of paper that I got when checking them out said I still had 3 more days. The said "Well till we see that, this charge will need to be payed.". I pulled the slip of paper out of my wallet and show it to him and he glared at me as I showed him the return date. Well, I was told that everything was fixed after that and It wasn't till I was paying for something that I knew I was late on that I found out the problem was never fixed. As I handed the person at the counter $10 to pay off my late fees on some DVDs, the person at the counter looked at me and said, "That's all?" Confused I asked what did she mean by that and she reply, "You owe $97 in late fees." I asked her what it was that would have sparked toughs fees and she told me it was from the books that they where calming I was late on last time. I explained to her what had happened last time that was brought up and asked why was I able to check things out still if I had a charge that high. She just shrugged and said "Well, NOW you won't be able to do anything like check out stuff or go on the computers till you pay off a big chunk of it off." I told here I wasn't going to pay for their mistakes, took back my money and left. I've also noticed that they have been having bikes stolen from the bike rack out side for a few years now too and they HAD been advised to put a security camera in the area to they could keep an eye out for who had been cutting the bike locks and taking the bikes but they keep using, "We just don't have the budget to do that now." as an excuse when they have the money to throw party that had out $500 pulse in gift card to game winners for the May 5th event. I'm shocked that they haven't been sued yet because of the bike thefts yet. read more

I hate to criticize any library, given their many funding challenges, but I've had a few negative experiences here and I just had another via phone. (I've also had several good ones, but today, it's the negative that is under my skin.) First, the reference librarian phone number dumps callers straight to voice mail with a somewhat unfriendly outgoing message. So, I called circulation. A woman with astoundingly poor listening skills took my call! I had a few simple questions and her comprehension skills were nearly nonexistent. Instead of closing her mouth and listening to my clear step-by-step instructions on how to look up a *phrase* in their online catalog, she interrupted with incorrect statements and assumptions about what she thought I wanted. She started off with "So, you're looking for something?" Good grief. Yes. Why else would I be searching your catalog via your website? Then she wanted to change the search criteria because in her opinion, it would make sense to search by a format of CD instead of what I instructed, which was "all formats." Then she mentioned that she'd searched by *keyword*, when I told her 3x to search by *phrase*. I wanted to shout"LISTEN! Stop talking and LISTEN." She was absolutely exasperating. I repeated very simple step-by-step the instructions to her 3+ times. She could not or would not follow the conversation, the steps, or comprehend that I was trying to guide her to a page on their website so I could THEN ask my question. All because she was too busy interrupting which led to her misunderstanding. The conversation went downhill from there. Finally, after 2 more questions about the info displayed on and the functionality of their web site, and her maddeningly obtuse responses, she offered to transfer me to the reference librarian where I could, she said, leave a message.
