Although I am not a resident of Surprise or Arizona for that matter, I was able to sign up for a free library card. I even got to choose my library card design that was created by residents in an annual contest. They have a variety of services here that you will find at other libraries across the country. You can check out physical books or download the Surprise Library app and find links to the Hoopla and Libby apps for free digital content downloads including movies, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, music, and more. They have laptops and WiFi devices available, but there seems to be a very long wait for these. People can check them out for a 3-week period. You can also use computers there at the facility. I loved seeing a group of friends playing games at a table. There was also a Seed Library for people wanting to grow their own plants. The Library of Things (LOTs) seems to be popular for kids to checkout toys. My favorite item was the cultural pass. They had available passes to a variety of museums and cultural establishments. You could checkout a pass and use it within a seven day period. I wanted to checkout the free pass to the Phoenix Art Museum. Unfortunately, this branch didn't have one available at the moment I came in, but the staff was kind enough to direct me to another branch that had it and they held it for me since they knew I was on my way. The pass was good for two free admissions to the art museum. This saved us over $50. What an amazing service offering! There are countless events on the calendar, especially for young families. It's definitely worth visiting your local branch to find entertainment and educational resources to enrich your life.

In the air conditioning on a hot summer day. We came to the library to see a juggling show and were not disappointed. James Reid had parents and kids and other visitors in awe and wonder and laughing at times. Great juggling skills. Earned a word for our summer reading program, too. Definitely worth the drive over from Mesa. Really nice building. Great layout for the books they offer. Next to the "big room" where we saw the juggling we also found a little used book library. Grabbed us up a handful of books to read. Fantastic visit.

Books remain one of humanity's greatest invitations to empathy, curiosity, and wonder, and the Sun City Library is a beautiful place to accept that invitation. Beyond its welcoming atmosphere and thoughtfully curated collection, what makes this library so special is that it's part of the Maricopa County Library District. If a book isn't waiting on these shelves, chances are it can find its way here from another branch. The opportunities for discovery feel endless, rivaling--and often surpassing--those of many larger cities throughout the Valley. One of my favorite discoveries has been the Friends bookstore. It's an absolute gem, full of unexpected treasures. The libraries foreign film section is also praise worthy. There's something deeply satisfying about finding a classic film or beloved novel waiting for a second life in someone else's hands. This is the kind of place where the Arizona heat fades into the background, replaced by the quiet rustle of turning pages and the comforting knowledge that there is always another story waiting. I'm grateful places like this still exist. In a world moving ever faster toward the digital, libraries and physical media remind us that some experiences are meant to be held, shared, and preserved. They are not relics of the past--they are investments in our future, and they deserve to be protected.

The staff were so friendly and helpful here and my daughter also ended up getting her library card. It only took a few minutes. She chose a library card that has a scorpion on it that glows in the dark. Very cool. We enjoyed looking at all of the books, audiobooks, movies, and culture passes available. There's even an option to check out a ukulele at this branch! We checked out the Friends of the Library Bookstore attached to the library by a small hallway with restrooms, a relaxation room and a microfiche room. The bookstore is one of the nicest and most curated friends of the library bookstores I have seen. Everything is organized alphabetically and decorated and clean. Books are very affordable priced around $0.25 to $1.00. We were greeted by the friendliest staff helper when we walked in.

Like the first rays of morning light stretching across the Valley, this library has been a source of warmth, clarity, and new beginnings. The building itself is beautiful--modern, thoughtfully designed, and filled with an atmosphere that invites you to linger. Every corner feels intentional, from the peaceful study spaces with adjustable blinds that offer a rare moment of privacy, to the clean, welcoming facilities that make it easy to settle in for hours. The staff are consistently kind and knowledgeable, creating a place where curiosity is always met with encouragement. What I love most is the abundance of stories waiting to be discovered. The collection of books, films, and other media offers countless opportunities to wander into unfamiliar worlds and return with a wider perspective. Time and again, I've walked through these doors searching for one thing and left having learned something I never expected. Over the years, this library has become more than a building filled with shelves. It has been a refuge--a quiet place to think, to study, to dream, and to grow. In a world that often feels rushed and distracted, Sunrise Mountain Library reminds us that knowledge asks only for our time and attention before giving back far more than we imagined. I couldn't recommend it more highly, and I'm deeply grateful that places like this continue to exist.
