Baby Storytime - Wed at 9:15 and 10:15

The Sunrise Mountain Library is great - a pretty space with huge windows that light each room with the AZ sun while the AC keeps it cool. The only downside is that the selection is pretty small, but this is to be expected for the still developing area of North Peoria. BUT, the extensive Phoenix online library more than makes up for it. This has really been the highlight of the library for me - downloading ebooks to my Kindle via Amazon and audiobooks to my phone via the Overdrive app. You just log in with your library card and search for titles you might want. You can add stuff to a wish list, put books on hold, even request future books, etc. Also, shout out to the kiddie class on Wed mornings, songs, story time, games, and bubbles - good for 1-preschool. And if you're in a hurry, the loop in front of the library has a drive-thru book drop off - a great idea and it works.

I really love this location. The children's section is great. My son loves to play in the kids area and they also have an out door section for him to run around in. We sometimes just go for him to get out and play. They are always having some sort of event going on for kids and adults like looking at Lizards, jugglers, Legos, and more. Weekly events for toddler story time is a must for the little ones they have a blast singing and playing. If you all don't know about the culture passes please look into this! You can get 2 free admissions to local museums and zoo's. This is a great way to save money and get out of the house for some fun. I use them often!!

I was in and because of the wide variety of books. I was back out in about two minutes. No joke.

The staff were so friendly and helpful here and my daughter also ended up getting her library card. It only took a few minutes. She chose a library card that has a scorpion on it that glows in the dark. Very cool. We enjoyed looking at all of the books, audiobooks, movies, and culture passes available. There's even an option to check out a ukulele at this branch! We checked out the Friends of the Library Bookstore attached to the library by a small hallway with restrooms, a relaxation room and a microfiche room. The bookstore is one of the nicest and most curated friends of the library bookstores I have seen. Everything is organized alphabetically and decorated and clean. Books are very affordable priced around $0.25 to $1.00. We were greeted by the friendliest staff helper when we walked in.

They hold interesting programs here so I went to learn about 3d printing. The librarian explained…read morethat because of the time consuming nature of the printer, all of the parts of our projects were made in advance so all we had to do was pick the colors of the various pieces, read the directions, and snap them together, but she had the machine going to we could see how it operates and we saw little orange spinners made. So what did we make? Fidgets. One black one like a mini joystick, an Oreo, and a clicking gear (all shown in my pics). She explained that they are fun for everyone, but that neurodivergent people like those with ADHD find them handy to help increase focus or for self soothing. She had books about neurodivergency lined up on the book cart so we could look through them and check them out if we wanted to. I wasn't expecting this extra educational aspect to what I thought was just seeing a 3d printer work, so it was a very well rounded program and all of us in this multi age group really enjoyed it.

I was a Phx resident for over 20 years and the services in that city are outstanding. I knew it would be hard to beat their library services, which are gorgeous facilities and well stocked. With that said though, Glendale has a reciprocity agreement so now I can use both. YEAH! When I arrived at the 59th location I was treated well and greeted by a friendly librarian who signed me up and did a great job explaining everything. This is a smaller branch and not as large or well stocked as the Phx locations but the facilities are very nice. It will do just fine. What was really fun was on the way home driving out of the parking lot I got to stop for a Peacock crossing, I was like, "Waaaaaaaaaa?" Then I realized they were out walking from the nearby awesome park they live at. So fun and cool!!!! Weird to have to stop in a parking lot to let Peacocks cross living in Phoenix Arizona and all. lol - I hope when you are there you watch out for them. I keep thinking most people might not expect them and might hit them if they drive unsafe. I would go back to this branch just to see the Peacocks. Ha!

Although I am not a resident of Surprise or Arizona for that matter, I was able to sign up for a free library card. I even got to choose my library card design that was created by residents in an annual contest. They have a variety of services here that you will find at other libraries across the country. You can check out physical books or download the Surprise Library app and find links to the Hoopla and Libby apps for free digital content downloads including movies, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, music, and more. They have laptops and WiFi devices available, but there seems to be a very long wait for these. People can check them out for a 3-week period. You can also use computers there at the facility. I loved seeing a group of friends playing games at a table. There was also a Seed Library for people wanting to grow their own plants. The Library of Things (LOTs) seems to be popular for kids to checkout toys. My favorite item was the cultural pass. They had available passes to a variety of museums and cultural establishments. You could checkout a pass and use it within a seven day period. I wanted to checkout the free pass to the Phoenix Art Museum. Unfortunately, this branch didn't have one available at the moment I came in, but the staff was kind enough to direct me to another branch that had it and they held it for me since they knew I was on my way. The pass was good for two free admissions to the art museum. This saved us over $50. What an amazing service offering! There are countless events on the calendar, especially for young families. It's definitely worth visiting your local branch to find entertainment and educational resources to enrich your life.

There was also a limited tshirt that day at the Friends Bookstore with a print from the printing press designed by library staff. Every day here is a special day, but today was an extra special day. Staff is always ready to help, is friendly, and is very knowledgeable - whether it's Adult Services Staff, Youth Services Staff, Circulation Staff, or Municipal Security; everyone is here to help make your experience incredible. There's a first floor with an art gallery, the children's area, the adult fiction area, the checkout area, the accounts desk, the security desk, and the auditorium. The second floor has the computer, printing, faxing, copying, and scanning area, the business area, the arizona room, workforce area, and college depot. I loved the informative display cases on the second floor which held information on filming western movies in Arizona, about Burton Barr - their namesake, and about the architecture of the building. This was a very nice, informative touch. The third floor is administration and is not open to the public. This is where the magic of Phoenix Public Library is planned. This is where the PPL team orders and processes PPL materials, where staff plans programs, marketing, and more! The fourth floor is the teen room, the makerspace, and where the youth services staff plans programs. The fifth floor is the largest reading room in the nation, yes, larger than NYC Central Public Library's reading room! It's an impressive floor and my favorite with those beautiful North, and South views of Phoenix. This floor holds the adult non-fiction collection, and reference collection. Each floor has restrooms, look for signs. Can't find it? Ask the friendly staff at any service desk.
