Such a friendly place! I thought libraries were a dying breed until I had my little one. The I started looking for things to do in the neighborhood. I found libraries, and the Avondale Civic Center one in particular. We love coming here for story time. The staff are engaging, welcoming, snd knowledgeable. They make it a point to get to know the kids who come in. I noticed there is also a teen program and many activities for adults as well. I did use the restroom here to change my baby and it was clean and well kept. My teen did gripe about the book selection, but I think that's just her being a teenager . If you're looking for some family friendly activities, this library has lots to offer. read more

I often have to go to a different library system to take out the books I am looking to read. Especially if it's a newer title.

I started to come to this library to study for the LSAT and I am very pleased with my experiences thus far. I've talked to a couple of librarians about a few different things and they were all so courteous, welcoming, and polite. The library is very spacious and for the most part, quiet. I have yet to check out any books so cannot comment on that. I will surely come back and plan on attending story time with my children. read more

I really like this Library, is big, spacious, has lots of computers available for the Avondale residents to use. There are computer "pods" near the kids/teenagers reading section, that they can use to either play games or do some research. I like it that they have a separate room where they have the toddler reading time, also, once a week, I believe, they have just Toddler playtime, which is not guided by the staff, but there is someone from the Library staff present to keep everything running smooth. Plushy toys, board books, and different puzzles are available for the little ones to play with. They also have conference rooms that you can use to study, or maybe reserve for a group meeting and such. I like the diversity of books they have available, DVDs, and CDs that you can check out. I like this library but the amount of noise is unbelievable. Just witnessed staff members being extremely loud, having conversations, laughing while a delivery person was coming in and out. I understand that this is job your as a librarian but do you need 5 staff standing watching the guy deliver packages. Not trying to be hate but as far as i know the libraries should be quite places for people to focus and study unless the rules have changed. read more

This is a really beautiful library. It's modern, spacious and very clean. They have a nice kids' section and an area with tables to read that overlooks the mountains. I love the overall atmosphere of this library. You can check out a number of books at a time, which as nice, and they can auto-renew up to 5 times as long as no one has placed the book on hold. The location is convenient and within walking distance of some of the nearby neighborhoods. Overall, I would recommend this library to anyone in the area. read more

DISAPPOINTING. One mother checked out the spacious Story Time room for one whole hour for her 10 month old son who didn't join her until much later. During that time she was just there on her cell phone. She didn't want to share the room and she didn't have to, according to library rules. I don't think that's fair So my kids and I had to wait. I noticed other mothers and their precious kids wanting to go inside but couldn't during that time. The only thing that's available to families that waited outside the story time room for that hour was 19 pieces of Lego blocks. Also, no one is allowed to take out and enjoy the little and very few items that they do have that's located inside the story time room while you wait. I was really hoping to do some hands-on educational things with my kids there. You don't have the free will to do so. I think valuing kids and being apart of their fundamental development are not priority here. When it was my turn to check out the room, I shared with the Liberians that any mother or child that wanted to come into the room while I was there, are more than welcome to come right on in. I guess they more for just slapping the kids onto the computer screen. Something must change. I suggest the library should allow any parent that wants a one on one quiet and "quality time" with their child/kids should have access to 1 or 2 of the smaller rooms with doors, that's already there in the library. Ps. I'm really not trying to cause frustration/anger to anyone or to this library, I just care for children and want to shine some light on things. The librarian were nice :) read more

Bright - very sunny. Good for studying if you don't mind a little noise. Study rooms - only two, and they are often booked so make a reservation. Free wi-fi. Pleasant and courteous staff. read more

Good place to go to get out of the summer heat. the only draw back is it looks more like a internet cafe than a library most of the time.

Excellent service...librarians are always available to assist and the Wednesdays Science Workshops for kids are amazing

Worse library I have ever been to! I came to do homework--- I am a Phx public library user so my card did not work here I was charged a dollar to use the computer. That wasn't the problem the horrible environment was the problem!!! Sooo loud and unruly children and the mean librarians behind the counter were they tried to keep it under control but they were just as loud chatting among themselves-- HORRIBLE do not waste your time coming here if u are going to study!! Go to a Starbucks!!! read more
