How did I not know about this place? Sure, I don't play pool, but all my guy friends are OBSESSED with it and I'm honestly shocked they have never dragged me here! This place is right next to Tin Roof and across from Coyote Ugly. Perfect place to start the night, or end the night! They have 8 pool tables, a juke box, and a stage. Not sure what exactly they do with said stage, but it is there ;). Also, can we talk about their vending machine? I'm honestly mad I didn't take a picture of it. It has everything from mints, to food, to condoms. Honestly they are ahead of the game if you ask me. I went during the day, so not exactly sure what the vibe and atmosphere here is at night, but I have a feeling we will come here late night sometime soon. All in all, it's a cool, chill place to shoot some pool and drink a little beer!

Peoples has been around for over 100 years and is the only pool hall on Beale Street. You'll find tons of pool tables and big screen TVs if you'd rather relax and catch a game on the tube. A more relaxed atmosphere than most of the establishments on Beale, Peoples has its share of regulars, as well as a full bar. The bar also stocks cigars and has recently started cooking up pizzas for hungry patrons. A great place to chill, watch a game or get your game on, Peoples treats everyone like family.

Peoples is the oldest pool hall in Memphis. The place has been downtown since 1904 and still has tables from the same year! Where else can you play pool or snooker on authentic 100 year old Brunswick pool tables in Memphis? Nowhere, but Peoples on Beale. Pool table time is charged a prorated amount by the hour. (that means they only charge you for the time you actually play) There's always an open table or a seat at the bar waiting for you and your friends at Peoples. This sports bar and pool hall combo is now serving up freshly made pizza, both by the pie and by the slice. If you're downtown and looking for a place to watch the game, Peoples is your best bet!

Awesome!!! When we crossed Beale Street in front of "Coyote Ugly" to the People's Billiard Club...I was pleasantly impressed !!! This is a real old fashioned "POOL HALL", the type my daddy and my uncles would take me to when I was young..I mean Young..I mean 4-5 yrs old...lol !!!! Dancing the Juke Box to Elvis in the corner while the played Pool, drank beer and smoked cigarettes..Yes today that would be a phone call to the CPS...but we are talking about late 1968 and 1969...a different time, a different place...a different world...and walking into this Pool Hall called People's Billiard Club on Beale Street transformed to this wonderful yester years !!! I wanted to cry and my hubby, Tony thought I lost my mind!!!! We went into the pool hall that had 12 tables, and a few high top tables with bar stood situated throughout the hall among the Billiard Tables here and there. There are wires on the ceiling hanging down in long loops with beads like an abacus to keep the score, You use your pool stick to reach up and slide the beads here and there to keep the score/count. Depending on the game your playing..There was a juke box, a small bar serving a full liquor selection and beer selection. They serve Pizza and I didn't see anything else on the menu..but I didn't see anyone eating any nor did I smell any cooking. There was only one bartender and guessing by his side, he was also the law in the building the bouncer and rule enforcer...but everyone was having a good time. You can smoke here, which is a great plus for the drinkers and smokers...I personally don't do either but it helped with the reminiscing I was experience...and I loved every moment of it.. Tony drank about 3 beers here, we didn't play any billiards but we enjoyed watching the others. I had an iced tea and I did order One Michelob Light Ultra to sip...I gave into weakness....lol !!! but at least I didn't grab a Marlboro!!!! I definitely recommend this location on Beale Street and I can't wait to partake again in the place that brings me back to a time I long for again and again!!!!

Can't rate this place because they won't let someone in with an expired I.D. Was looking forward to going in and checking things out.

I believe the place was empty when we took a seat at the bar but another party of 2 followed shortly behind and sat a little bit further down the bar. I tried something that sounded better than it tasted but ultimately this is a matter of personal preference and I have a high maintenance palate. The people next to us got wings, which looked good until they were dangerously close to a leak that had sprung from one of the exposed pipes above. They had to move to a table behind us and then some of the staff got a bucket to place on the bar to catch the dripping water but that made a very loud noise so then they put a towel inside of the bucket. I will admit that I have never experienced such a thing before. It looked like the pipe that was dripping had tape wrapped over that area so they had tried a "bandaid" fix in the past but it didn't work. Obviously, this does negatively impact the "ambiance" portion of the overall experience and getting the impression that this is an issue that could have been fully addressed previously but the decision was made not to. It wouldn't stop me from going back but it certainly isn't ideal.

I had a fantastic espresso martini and the best brussel sprouts I've ever tasted! So I was excited to come try something else. On the plus side, the bathroom was so nicely decorated. It was also very clean. I sat at the end of the bar, beside the little section of books. The bartender was nice. I ordered the Ember&Passion cocktail. Although it was pretty good, it was quite mild. Unexpected with the ingredients in it. I was surprised that the level of expected heat was not very detectable. I give it 7/10. When I came here before in the winter, the temperature was perfect and I don't remember being too bothered that they don't have cocktail napkins. But yesterday it was quite warm in the restaurant and not having these napkins wasn't good. Nobody in the restaurant had any type of napkin under any drink! I noticed that just like mine, every glass of water from every patron had a puddle of condensation under the glass. Each time I picked up my glass of water, it would drip onto my food and clothes. My two menus got so wet. I suppose they made this decision to save themselves a lot of money. As for the food: My parmesan truffle fries were excellent!! Hot, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked in the middle. Best I've had in a long time. The Alabama white sauce on the side was just your typical sauce. It tasted just like every other Alabama white sauce that I've had so was not disappointing. But I actually ended up not using it because it was too thin and it didn't add anything to the fries. The fries were excellent enough on their own. I ordered my burger "pink" but there wasn't any pink to it, but I wasn't that bothered about it. Burger and the toppings were tasty, except for the fried green tomato. Looking closely at the picture, you can see that it was SO SMALL compared to the size of the burger. When a restaurant does that, don't they realize that it makes for a glaring disappointment?! It apparently came from near the end of the tomato, and not the middle. If you are going to offer a fried green tomato on a burger, then I feel as if you should only use the larger slices of the tomato, and save the smaller ends for maybe putting in salads. I've always been obsessed with fried green tomatoes. After having my first two bites of burger and still not reaching the tomato, I took it off to eat by itself. Sadly, it tasted terrible! I was surprised. Obviously, they didn't season the tomato or the batter. (Salt and pepper go a long way.) The burger toppings apparently made the tomato batter not only soggy, but also this strange thick texture. Like mushy and chewy at the same time. 1/10 Worst problem: FLIES!!! So many flies! When I just had my drink but no food yet, I noticed them but was not bombarded by them at that point. It wasn't until my food came. All of a sudden I was literally surrounded by them. They were everywhere! No exaggeration. I actually had to use only one hand to eat and the other hand to constantly move back and forth over my food. I eventually gave up and set the plate of some of my fries about 4 inches in front of my burger in order to hopefully draw the flies to the fries so that I could eat my burger. Unfortunately, after only four bites of my burger, when I set it down to take a drink of water, a fly landed on it within one second. Obviously, that was my last bite, and even when I was moving the plate closer to the end of the counter, two more flies landed on it. The glass of straws was inches from me. That, and the book closest to me seemed to be where they gathered to wait for their opportunity to dive bomb me. So many of them! It turned my stomach when I realized that I had been drinking from a straw with my water and I'm sure there had been flies on it before I got there. Every person that gets a straw in their drink at this restaurant has had a fly sitting on top of it. When the bartender told me about the desserts, it turned my stomach to think of just how many flies were in the kitchen. Had I known the fly situation was that bad when I first got my drink, I would have never stayed there, and I certainly would have never ordered food. I do think it is a real shame because the winter months are a totally different experience in that restaurant. But because of how horrible it was this time, I just can't ever come back.

The bar tender greeted us warmly, and told us we could sit anywhere we liked, so we chose a cozy, comfy corner booth. Hubby loved his Sweet Tea, "just right". Food came out fresh, fast and perfectly served. We shared the crispy authentic Calamari over a bed of Arugula with Remoulade, Sweet Asian and Marinara for dipping. When we finished that, we poured the Asian dressing over the plentiful Arugula salad. We shared a Trio of tender, juicy Certified Angus sliders. Wow! Hubby said that's the best dang slider I ever ate! I agree! The shoestring fries were perfectly fried and seasoned. Love that you can get up to six sliders. Unfortunately, we were met with one of the rudest bartenders I've ever encountered. As soon as we sat down at the bar, the bartender--a Caucasian woman with a short haircut whose name I unfortunately didn't get--greeted us with an attitude that immediately made us feel unwelcome. Instead of providing friendly service, she was dismissive, impatient, and rushed us through placing our to-go order. She informed us that we could not eat at the bar, which was completely fine. We agreed without any issue and ordered our food to go. However, when my food arrived, I simply opened the container to make sure my order was correct before leaving. She immediately rushed back over and aggressively said, "Didn't I tell you that you could not eat at the bar?" I hadn't taken a single bite--I was only checking my order. Rather than politely clarifying the policy, she continued to scold us and make us feel like we were inconveniencing her simply by being there. We still hadn't even received my friend's food, yet she seemed more interested in lecturing us than providing basic customer service. Once my friend's food finally arrived, we left as quickly as possible. As visitors in town celebrating Pride, we expected a welcoming atmosphere and basic courtesy. Instead, we experienced hostility, impatience, and a complete lack of professionalism. There's a huge difference between enforcing a policy and treating customers with disrespect, and this bartender clearly doesn't understand that distinction. The food may have been fine, but the service was so unpleasant that I would never return or recommend Bar Dogs to anyone looking for a friendly place to eat or have a drink. Customer service training is desperately needed.
