Everything Jenn wrote is true. Sometimes you'll wait 30, 40 or even 50 minutes past your appointment time. Lab waits are much shorter. Also, in the summer, the lobby is sweltering. You'll walk up to a window where the employees sit and when they open it to speak to you, you'll feel the whoosh of brisk, cool air. That says all you need to know about what PCC thinks of their patients.
I've been going to PCC for a year now since being diagnosed with a deadly deficiency that clots my blood. It's caused me to have a pulmonary embolism, a stroke, and creates pain in my legs. I have to take medication to keep my blood from clotting and killing me and I have to be tested regularly to see that my levels are safe (not too thin, not too thick).
My first doctor, Dr. Peavey, was a great doctor. He listened and helped with all he could and I truly appreciated his time and effort in helping me manage my health issues. I believed he truly cared. Then, after a few months, he stopped calling me to deliver blood test results and his nurse would instead.
These are important results that could be life-threatening and there were times that I'd have to call PCC up to three days after my lab test to get the results because the nurse would never call me and my messages left at her "station" or "press three to request your lab results" were never replied to. After I called administrators and made enough of a stink about it, she'd call but deliver false recommendations for the amount of medicine I should be taking. I'd meet Dr. Peavey weeks later and tell him what she'd tell me and what I did instead and he responded by saying that was what he recommended, anyway. I asked him to be sure his nurse understands and tells me the proper dosages and he assured me there would be no problem. But there was. It continued. I would not get results for days and when I finally did, the dosage recommendations the nurse gave me were off kilter.
Finally, I contacted an administrator/supervisor named Sharon who set me up with another doctor, who was only available in the evenings past 7 PM. I made my appointment, arrived on time, and waited. And waited. And waited. After an hour I queried the receptionist who told me Dr. Hanser wasn't even in the office yet. I waited another hour to see her. Upset at the outrageous wait for an appointment I had made a week earlier, her reply to me was, "That's just how it is, I'm busy. You should get used to it if you want to see me."
She then proceeded to open my file for the first time (?!) only to almost immediately leave to search the internet (?!) and call another doctor to find out about my ailment. So, I waited some more. In all, the appointment took three and one half hours for a total of fifteen minutes with this doctor so filled with ignorance and self-importance that I wonder why I paid.
In my interactions with her (that appointment and on the phone), I've discovered that she does not listen to a patient and makes personal judgments not based on medicine. She also does not make proper entries in my file to document my visit nor our conversations.
I've tried to get a solution from Sharon, the "supervisor," but she refuses to do anything but state "it doesn't say that in your file." I would have had a better chance of having Helen Keller tell me what the color red looked like.
I've seen three other MD's in the past thirty years and they were all wonderful, including Dr. Peavey at PCC. They always read my file before we met or at least knew what I was there for. They had immediate answers. They listened and I felt they cared. I could not be more unhappy with the "care" Dr. Hanser "provides" and would recommend to all that they avoid her at all costs.
But her nurse, Joyce, is great!
As for PCC, they're all underpaid, overworked people. Most care, some don't. Maybe I just ran into the two most incompetent health practitioners in the place (Dr. Hanser and Dr. Peavey's nurse). In all, I could not find a combination at PCC that didn't make it more difficult to deal with my health issues instead of making it easier. Shame on them.
If you need a regular doctor to take care of your health for an extended period of time, go somewhere else. Pay more. Do anything but visit People's Community Clinic. You'll be better off.
I'm sure that they'll do just great if you have the flu, though. read more
