I've been a few times and have found products I needed that were decently priced. The first time I did catch the guy watching me very closely so I put him to work by asking him to get a few different wigs for me to look at lol. The other times I went wasn't as bad and I didn't feel watched. That being said, the customer service was good. He went back and forth getting the different wigs I wanted without complaint. People's Beauty Supply, omg! You step in and you are surrounded by so much hair, clothes, hair products, and so much else! It can be very overwhelming, so focus! My focus was on a wig and I was able to find a cute, curly one. I did not know if I was going to like it or not, but I was able to quickly try it on and find out I did. Now, the debate was the color, which the gentleman that I found helped me a lot. Sat me down and brought out a few colors. The one he recommended worked out so well and fit my face and skin tone perfectly! The wig and wig head cost me under $40!! Definitely happy with what I got and I will be back! read more

I don't recommend this business to anyone . The staff is rude & they act like you owe them something . I bought hair from here and it did not bleach brought it back in the bleach bag & they swore I was just using the wrong bleach etc.. the hair was not turning yall I even used the clarion expensive bleach at vol 40.. got nothing..... Great selection of all types of beauty supply needs and I received great customer service

The customer service at this location is extremely lacking. First, no one greets or welcomes visitors. Secondly, the staff seem to know very little about the products they sale. Lastly, product selection and pricing are very questionable when compared to other beauty supply stores. I travel the 20+ minutes it takes me to get to Peoples at lease twice a month. They have what I need and more. Do they watch me, yep, but we're watched no matter where we shop. Peoples has exactly what I need when other beauty stores don't. Nobody's ever followed me around the store, but I guarantee they're watching me though, and at the end of the day, as long as I'm not approached in a disrespectful way or treated rudely, watch all you want. Watching me isn't enough to have me walking around looking a hot mess. Especially when I know as a black person I'm always being watched. I recently moved to the area, so my co-worker referred me to this beauty supply store. The young black woman that runs the cash register was VERY helpful. I don't know much about weaves, but when I showed her a photo of what I was looking for, she was there to walk me through the different brands/textures and even matched my hair color. If there was a less than zero star I'd give them this. The customer service in this store is atrocious! I went to the store to purchase some fun hair (blue) for my 7 year old daughter. She as with me and as soon as we get into the store she start squirming and saying she really needs to go. I grab the hair ( to show that I'm a paying customer) and beg the cashier to allow my daughter to use the bathroom. She looks down at my daughter and says, sorry we don't have a public bathroom. I have spent hundreds of dollars in this store, bypass Sally's because they are local and there was not even a recognition of a little girl in panic. If I was able to give 0 stars I would. It's the only beauty supply store close and I've been in a few times before with other people. I went in today to buy some clip ins and it's super hard to check color and stuff because they don't let you open it, it's a small space and I was lowkey uncomfortable because I felt like they were looking at me the whole time. Now I will say the girl that semi helped me was nice, but this ain't about her. I ended up going back twice because the color was off, if I'm paying 100$ for some hair I want it to be perfect. So I go home cut the strings and hold a piece up my hair and realize that it's the same damn length as my hair. So I call immediately and ask can I exchange it for the longer one and I'll pay the difference he said did you open it I said yes he said bring it up here. So I did, mind you all this happened in a span of an hour or less. I go up there and the girl gets the new hair and is about to do it the exchange and then she goes oh he's not gonna take this back cuz you cut the strings off but you can ask him. So I turn around to ask him and he grabs the package and was like no I'm not taking this back no one will buy it I said excuse me ? He mumbles something else and while I'm asking what else I can do like get half back on a store credit LIKE SOMETHING he walks off and goes back to sit down. It took all of me not to knock the whole counter over!!! like I have never met someone so disgusting and disrespectful, I had just spent 115$ in there and was willing to spend damn near 50 dollars more on the new length and he completely disregarded me. I've read the other reviews and they are all the same as mine so I know this isn't gonna make a difference. I'll look into reporting them to the BBB but just know this place is disgusting. I dropped by People's Beauty Supply today and I was blown away by the young lady they have there now. Her name is Bridgette! She was very friendly and very helpful. There were A LOT of people there and she assisted each one of us like we were her only customers. She not only helped me with my hair choices, but she helped me with my makeup, eyelash selection and some other accessories. People's has REALLY stepped up their game by hiring this young lady! She is definitely an asset and I will be returning there in the very near future! read more

I do not normally post reviews but this is post worthy. I had to marinate on my thoughts before posting my review, I will make it a short as possible.. My daughter and I have been shopping at this place for about a year. The girl behind the register is always kind and respectful. She is very knowledgeable about the products in the store. But on Saturday we bought a hood hair dryer because on Sunday afternoon I was getting my hair done. Once my hair is done, I get under the dryer which we have had on for 10 minutes warming up, I sat under it for 25 minutes and it never got more than lukewarm. So I go to take it back, I have never experienced anyone like this woman who I think was the owner. She yells instead of talks. She said they had to try it out, she told me the dryer came on, I responded that I never said it did come on, I said it did not heat up. She goes on to tell me that it did, I said so you are going to force me to keep something that does not work as advertised. She is talking to 2 men that are looking at the dryer and speaking in their native language. At one point, she asked me if I had it on low, medium or high. My reply was do I look stupid. The whole time she is talking she is yelling, I said please stop yelling because I am not deaf. She kept telling me that it works and I kept saying it does not work properly and I do not want it. After a while, she finally allowed the cashier to do the exchange because they do not give refunds, it is exchange or store credit. I have worked in customer service in a couple of different retail arenas and I have never, ever!! If my family goes there, I will stay in the car. I agree with Desiree E., if there was a less than zero, that is what they would get from me and I will not spend another penny in that store. read more

I would have gave no stars if yelp allowed it. Today I went to People's Beauty Supply. I asked the older woman that worked there if they had any edge blades to shave my eyebrows. She quickly brushed me off and said go the the counter. I looked and said ok. Then she kept watching while I shopped, so I asked her if the blades were single edge blades. She shouted at me and said DON'T ASK ME NO MORE QUESTIONS JUST BUY!!!! I was liked I can't believe this is happening to me. We had words back and forward. While this beauty supply may not be for those of you who eschew Made In China products, this place offers many excellent and odd items. They overprice their fake nails up to $2, but otherwise I found their product prices on par with other ethnic beauty supply places. All you Caucasian women take note: Jessica Simpson did not create clip-in hair extensions, and Britney sho' as sh*t did not popularize wigs and mini-braids. Also take note that all that teasing and hair product you put in your hair is DAMAGING and can be done better and with a fraction of the damage with clip-in hair pieces. They had a decent selection of real hair (a lá Remy) at pretty good prices (saw one pack of 18" with clips already in for $24.99 which is a good price) as well as a wide array of synthetic hair (including a very supple type which I'd never seen before- 15 or 18" for $8.99.) Same can be said for mascara; ya'll ever LOOKED at the ingredients list for mascara? Don't even GET me started on waterproof mascara.) if you want to have eyelashes as an 80 year old and minimize eye itchies not to mention eye cancer or, hell, wrinkles--LEARN to use fake eyelashes! While this place is overcrowded with products, and the hubby-and-wife duo are keeping close tabs to make sure you're not theiving--I recommend it for all sorts of unusual hair and makeup and jewelry goodies. Though I've largely given up Made in China products, I can recommend the LA Colors brand of eyeshadow IF you care to take the risk of China-produced issues. I'm still looking for an equally inexpensive, Made in USA highly pigment shadow :( I've spent $8+ on eyeshadow compacts that don't pack the punch of the $1.99 four color compacts. FUDGE!!! :( other picks: CZ earrings in a wide array: $1.99-$5.99, knock off perfume with THEE most outrageous names, black latex glue (normally used for weaves but mad useful for fake eyelashes. Don't get the anti-fungal type though--stings the eyes,) Kiss brand non-ammonia, non-peroxide hair dye $3.69 (AND made in the USA), and a bunch more. Update To Shonna: Um, I'm white. And I don't think that all white women, or asian women, or black women, or hispanic women are alike according to their ethnicity. I was making fun of the fact that a lot more white women, outside of entertainers of all sorts, are using hair-pieces. Jessica Simpson has some nice-ish stuff sold at place like Sally's, but this place, and places like these have a huge selection that I think women of all sorts should learn about and utilize and lessen the damage to their hair with various hair colors or cuts that might not turn out the way they like. Edited to add: I love wigs and I am so glad people like Lady Gaga and Beyonce are making them more common, but I had to laugh at some magazine articles acting like it was so newfangled that Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears used hair extensions to make their hair look so good. But way to go for generalizing someone you don't know (and being wrong) while accusing me of the same thing, as if most white women (or any woman) is going to take that line in the review THAT PERSONALLY. Yesterday, I had one of the worst experiences in my life. Probably been one of the worst days in my life. Me, my friends, family have been in this store occasionally and had no problems. But today we went looking for wigs and hair products, and we were constantly being watched and followed around by multiple people. Then as we were about to leave one of my friend was going to pay for her stuff and the lady came up to me and harassed me constantly over a 1.00 wig cap which I said multiple times I was going to pay, which I found out I had to buy other things to use my debit card, because they have a 5.00 minimum policy. Her husband and her starting Harrison get me out loud which I began to feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. I started to say let me just pay for it and go I don't have time for this nonsense but she kept going in trying to cause a scene and go off more. My friend kept telling them how the debit card minimum was very illegal and they can't do that . Which is very true and illegal and I will be calling and reporting the store. My other friend kindly told the the old lady she needs to learn how to respect black people and talk to black people the right way. Because if it wasn't for black people she would be out of business simple. She then proceed to say " NO, ALL OF YOU ARE THE SAME" . I have never been upset in my life and never met racist people in my life. I have been upset and crying my heart out over this experience. I will never come back in to this racist store. What goes around comes right back around. Do not support racist and non-helping stores that won't benefit you guys. Please read my story I don't want this happening to you guys. I have been shopping here for some time. Let me add that I am not quick to give reviews; negative or positive. Just by shopping here gave me the opportunity to view different characters. Yes, some people are not naturally customer-service-friendly. Bridgette, is hands on customer service. She not only makes her self available to answer questions, but initiates conversations. She acknowledges the customers. You may find her in the wig section giving advice on the various products they carry. Most importantly, you sense her real desire to find the right product for the right person. She is knowledgeable about haircare products in addition to the hair line. What I witnessed was her natural ability to make a customer feel comfortable enough to share their hair loss condition. Whether its tailoring the wig, weave, or haircare products; She was genuinely helpful. I am also happy to see that establishment put in place someone who can assist their clientele. Horrible customer service I wanted to purchase a wig and the one in the color I wanted was sold out except for the one on the mannequin I asked if i could get a discount since everyone had already been touching it and handling it thus shortening the life of the wig . Mind you I had just searched for the wig on amazon and saw it for $20 cheaper but I wanted it for that night and to support local business. She told me shed give it to me at 30% i had also found another wig earlier but hadn't made a decision on whether or not I wanted it yet but I told her I'd get it. I changed my mind at the register and told her I just wanted the 30% off one she then told me she couldn't give it to me at that price if I didnt get the other wig i told her that was not what we had agreed on and she tried to convince me what it was and told her its wither I get the one we decided on at the price she promised me or she gets no money from me. She wouldnt budge so I left after I called her some might nasty words that I 100%meant and will repeat again if I need to. DONT GO HERE!!! YOU CAN BUY EVERY SINGLE THING IN THAT STORE FOR AT LEAST 30% LESS ON AMAZON and other sites for FREE 1 or 2 day shipping. Very rude customer service. I went to this beauty supply to purchase some braiding hair, then I took it to the cash register and asked this older lady if she had any afro ponytails and she spat out "9A." Then when I saw the ponytail, I decided not to buy it because I did not like that person's tone of voice toward me. I only purchased the braiding hair from them because I didn't feel like going all the way to Sally's on Kildaire Farm. Anyways the woman told me the price and I paid. Then when she gave the bag to me, she rudely and forcefully shoved the bag into my hand and then said "thank you" in a very sweet tone. Me and my friends got followed around the other day because they thought we were stealing. Then as I go to pay for my hair oil, a lady working there starts harassing my friend to pay $1 for a wig cap, which was no problem of course. My friend only had a card on her and they had a $5 maximum in order to use a debit card. My friend is still offering to pay, but just needs to find something else to fulfill the maximum requirement. The girl working there offers to pay the $1 and we thought all our worries had ended right then and there, but no. The lady starts yelling at my friend about how she needs to pay the $1, but the register worker is emphasizing that she took care of it. She then says, "no, SHE needs to pay." My friend then starts to get angry because, a $1 is $1, she's offered to pay numerous times and we all know this is deeper than her paying for the wig cap. My friend is trying to stay calm, but she wasn't feeling her attitude, and how she was yelling at her. My other friend then tells her she needs to learn how to talk and respect black people. She responds by saying: "no, all of you are the same," and repeats herself over and over. iBeauty off of Avent Ferry Rd is a BEAUTIFUL beauty supply store, and they're much friendlier at that one. read more

While they have an expansive array of products and are a large facility, I will never patronize this business again. I was followed throughout the store despite showing concern for the treatment once I became fully aware . I sadly did purchase my product (I did speak up to the cashier), but will no longer patron them. My beautician had told me about a place with products, but then told me about the treatment I may experience and I could not remember the name which is why I tried this place out.
