When I called customer service, I was told I must physically go to a branch and provide--not one, but ALL of the following: my ID, Social Security card, three years of tax returns, utility bills, pay stubs, and a letter of employment. When I asked for a reason, neither the agent nor the supervisor could provide one. The most glaring proof of their prejudice? They claimed they couldn't verify my identity for online access, yet they offered to send me an online form to close the account. If I'm not verified enough to see my balance, how am I verified enough to close the account? It is clear this bank makes snap judgments based on accents and background. I am done with them.

I have banked with Mechanics Bank for over a decade, started in 2015 in California, and saw this location and was eager to come and make a deposit. Customer parking was well marked as was the entrance/exit, though I did need directing to the doors when I left the building. Entering the building, I found the deposit slips and filling out area located centrally inside the main entrance/exit. I filled out a slip and took it to the teller with my cash and identification. The teller looked up my account number and asked some clarifying questions. Turns out I was a legacy Mechanics Bank account and they were in the process of merging fully with another bank for the location by later in the month. The teller talked to other employees and called another branch to see if my deposit could be worked on, turned out it was limited access for who could perform the deposit for legacy accounts at that point in time. Another worker came back from their lunch break and started working on it. The teller was kind and made small talk and then directed me to a waiting area as the other worker figured it out. The chair I sat in while I waited was comfy. As I waited some music played on a small boombox on a table with refreshments by the chairs. Music played included a song I recognized from a movie trailer of a movie I wanted to see releasing in theaters later in the month. As the worker progressed they kept me updated, calling me in to their office when ready. As some aspects of the merger were processing, I was told there would be a delay to next day for money availability. The handwritten deposit slip was even on a HomeStreet Bank letterhead, a reminder the merger was still in process. All of the workers I interacted with were friendly and professional.

Recently had to interact due to a weekend mistake I made, which I quickly corrected on Monday. Asked for grace to have overdraft fee reversed since I haven't had an overdraft for years and I'm on a fixed income. They had to "do research" and then came back with a no hours later. This was after having to call back on Tuesday because they were too busy on Monday to even take a message without it being a complicated procedure for them. I'd move my mortgage if I could.

My retirement account was/is through Fidelity. When I returned to Washington State in approximately October/November 2019, I looked up to see if Fidelity had in-person offices I could go to and ask some general questions about my account to. I found this location, however I did not immediately visit as I worked through most of my questions, such as how to change my address on the account, on my own. After checking the online balance and withdrawal process, I decided it was time to come in and just ask if I could withdraw funds. I had not talked to a Fidelity financial advisor before and was uncertain as to if/how to withdraw funds. Remembering this location, I arrived a little after 11:00 a.m. this morning, Thursday 5 October 2023. Parking spaces were easy to navigate and the entrance easy to find. The interior was pristine and a friendly front desk worker, who I decided to term my financial advisor, greeted me. I asked if it was possible to withdraw funds from my account, to which he walked me through an example of what it might look like/entail to withdraw funds in full or partial amount from the account. Since I did not have my account details with me, he used my ID to pull up the account. He was friendly and knowledgable. The two big drawbacks I found out to withdrawing funds at my age (approximately 31 years old) were: 1) taxes, and 2) a 10% penalty for not being 59.5 years of age or older. This was very helpful information, as was the two general withdrawal options for a partial withdrawal: 1) a set withdrawal amount, or 2) a set in-your-pocket amount. My tiny little brain and I left with much to think about and I was happy to visit and get some guidance.

Even though I was not an account holder they were welcoming and more than willing to help. There were issues with the check I was trying to cash, so multiple phone calls had to be made. They all teamed up to help me get the matter resolved, and in the end, I was able to cash my check. As I was about to leave, I turned around and open new accounts with my new bank. The devices my employees carry to run credit cards are perfect!! They're very small, they Bluetooth so no need to take the phone case off to run a credit card! The battery lasts for weeks! It works every time AND it accepts all forms of payment such as Apple Pay, Android, all major cc's, chip and swipe cards! Pretty award one huh!!!! All of my employees use them to cash their checks and stuff and they all like them so much almost all of them have set up accounts too!! I was with them thru the change from Sterling to Umpqua Bank and honestly, they've always been great! I accidentally came across their reviews when looking something up on the website and I see some that are 3 or less? That's just crazy, I've done thousands of transactions with them in pretty much every branch in the area and they've been better than any bank I've ever been to.
