Phoenix Herpetological Society

Phoenix Herpetological Society

Oh, wow, we had some time off with family in town this past week and I was looking for activities…read morethat were both new to me and new to my visitors with small children. I've never heard of the herpetological sanctuary before, but it looked interesting enough. I was hum-ho about the entry price at first, it is quite the cost when you're bringing 8 people at ~$25 per person, but I decided to bite the bullet, every dollar goes to support the sanctuary after all. This was hands down the sleeper activity that no one was expecting. A few of the young ones in our group are into lizards and bugs so I thought they'd have an enjoyable afternoon. The sanctuary features a huge amount of rare reptilian rescues reside right here in our own city. Our tour was guided by Blythe, and she sure knew her stuff. She walked us through and talked about all the various turtles, tortoises, snakes, lizards, and the many crocodiles and alligators they have living right here in town. I was personally in shock at how many cool and even endangered species they have rescued here. During our tour I had mentioned one of the kids in our group were planning to acquire a lizard soon and Blythe let us on to the fact that they also adopt out the rescued reptiles and they in fact had a few of the exact geckos they were interested in. We left that day with a lot more reptilian knowledge than we came in with and a few weeks later one of their reptiles were rescued for a cost that was much, much less expensive than buying a $200 pet store gecko. Over all, I'm super glad we visited, as much as it painted me to take a $200 tour of the facility at first, it was worth every penny we spent for the experience. Your kids will love it here and you might just find that you yourself as an adult will enjoy the experience also. Who knows, maybe this is where you're going to find your own next reptilian friend to rescue.

Blythe was our tour guide and she was SO amazing, patient, sweet and so incredibly knowledgeable. I especially appreciated her kindness with my 6 year old who is a huge reptile fan and had a million questions a minute, Blythe is a true gem. I'm really appreciative of the way she interacted with my kids and made sure everyone could hear/see what she was talking to us about. We got to feed the tortoises, chickens, my boys got to hold snakes and see so many other reptiles, crocodiles, alligators and so many more awesome creatures! It's worth every penny, and the drive (for us.) I would recommend this, 10/10!!

Wow! Who knew Arizona had such an amazing memorabilia store. This place is absolutely huge! If you…read moreare looking for an autographed piece of memorabilia you will probably find it here. They have a wide variety of autographed media. Sports, movies, bands as well as historical autographed pieces, this is my go to local business for autographed gifts. Autographed items come with a COA from industry leading authentication experts such as Beckett Authentication Services, PSA/DNA, and James Spence Authentication. Today I purchased two Christmas gifts. A Taylor Swift autograph framed piece of memorabilia for my daughter and a Shaquille O'Neal autographed jersey for my son-in-law. I truly do enjoy purchasing from CBU Auctions and have done so for the past eight years. I first stumbled across them when the Majestic Movie Theater was called the Alamo. They had a display table in the lobby of the theater that featured autographed memorabilia. My husband is a huge 49ers fan so we bid on a Jerry Rice Helmet and won it. That's when I found out not only do I get a wonderful certified piece of autographed memorabilia at a great price, but a portion of the proceeds go to a reputable charity. It just doesn't get any better than that. You can still find their memorabilia in Majestic theaters. You can also make purchases online. In one of my pictures below, you can see a screenshot of their home page. At the top of the screenshot, you will see their email address. https://store.cbuauctions.com. Thank you to CBU Auctions and their wonderful staff for always providing reputable products and fantastic service!

The items were well packed. Arrived with no damage. Fed Ex signature required was an additional $8, but well worth it not just being left at the door. The service was great! Very nice experience.

But before heading out on our trip, we decided to come here first to do some team building so that we could get to know each other. Midwest Food Bank is a faith-based organization. Their mission is to alleviate hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and provide disaster relief. It is a great place for groups, families and individuals to come and volunteer at. Sign up is easy and they have daily shifts available to help pack and organize food boxes in their warehouse. They make it simple to find a shift that works best for your schedule. When you arrive and check in, Midwest Food Bank shows a video about the organization and explains how food will be packaged. Volunteers are then assigned to different stations. Because you are working with food, hand washing is required and so is wearing a hair net (they provide them). The staff here at Midwest Food Bank is great and they making volunteering fun. 2/14/26 Purpose…read more My study groups Team event. Fourteen of us from BCC did a Community volunteering activity to pack box food for children in need. Today we are focusing on specific overseas underserved villages and dietary needs of the children. Parking 5/5 Abundance of private parking Facilities 5/5 Very impressive building, large well suited for Feeding My Starving Children's mission. Teams which can be families, business teams etc may sigh-up in advance to be scheduled to participate in a meaningful and needed service for fighting hunger. Our day began in their Large group welcome and information room. Run by a great orator of their organization we learned what we were going to do and who would be receiving the product of our labor. Very nicely done! Surrounding this great room was the organizations special store. Items available for purchase were made in many of the countries they serve. Packing room 5/5 After dawning head and facial hair nets and gloves we were organized in sub team groups to a specific job. Activities/Effort 5:/5 in the progressive line from bulk dry food products to measuring, funnel dumping into bags to scale to add or remove product to meet bag weight requirements the to a sealing operation and final case building and taping. Teamwork 5:5 There must have been 8-10 teams with ~14 a team in a fun and motivational competition to maximize the Total food each two hour shift could produce. I enjoyed how our team with some ASU students developed teamwork that was flexible. Event take-away 10/5 Facts about food shortages and malnutrition are real. Child development is impacted both physically and psychologically. There are nations like ours who have organizations like Feed My Starving Children who have the networks, logistics, raw food based sources that utilize nutritional targets with environmentally stable ingredients. What we were shown today is the manual labor needed to meet the output requirements to feed those in need can be accomplished by organizing people of all colors, creeds and religions come together to serve a common goal, Feeding Starving Children. Everyone can benefit from moving out of your comfort zone by sacrificing 2-4 hrs to serve others, and to send a fundamental message to those around the world of Hope and Love through food. And in the process lean how you can work well with others from a wide spectrum of society for a higher cause. Get your families, work colleagues neighbors etc together and have fun helping! Be humble and gracious to others my friends-SYOY!

Only thing I suggest is maybe don't have a quiet person in the warehouse explaining how to do things without a mic- could barely hear her over the chatter of other groups and just static of the air. The introduction went smooth, warehouse is my favorite!!! Lots of moving around, heavy lifting, and quick thinking. This is a great organization to be part of if you want to volunteer, especially for a Christian business! They offer anyone who wants, to pray over the food boxes at the end of your shift (optional) they also have a "gift shop" which is all around you as you come in, so you can purchase goods made in other countries and know the labor is being fairly paid for! Everything priced well! 29¢ is what it takes to make one meal for a child, so every donation is significant, no matter how small! They're based off donations and don't take any assistance from the government, so any type of support you can give them is appreciated ! Attached is a picture of our ending numbers
