I wanted to open a bank relationship here with annual incoming funds of well over 200K.
When I told the sales person that I was vetting banks and had some questions before deciding, she already failed my first question, so I walked out.
Pentucket misleadingly advertises that they are part of the surcharge free SUM ATM network.
Any common sense person would think that this means that they (nor their SUM partners) will not charge their customers ATM usage fees.
The sales person however (without any blushing for embarassment!) told me that, although the SUM ATM partner where a Pentucket customer withdraws money will not charge a surcharge, Pentucket itself WILL charge an ATM surcharge of $ 1.50 if I withdrawn my money from their bank using a non-Pentucket SUM ATM. This is like the world turned on its head and also false advertising of course. Any other rational bank will not charge for SUM usage. I wonder if Pentucket knows the rules of its SUM membership.
The sales person also told me that Pentucket would only waive the $ 1.50 ATM fee if I parked a minimum of $ 7,000 with them, permanently of course, in a CD or similar account.
This bank is to be avoided. read more
