    Shelby @ 5 years.. full grown @ 106LBS

Maybe we are just heartbroken. Shelby was our sweet female Dane born in November of 2018. Such a well mannered and true gentle giant. Shelby was unable to meet her 6th birthday due to bone cancer. Just know if you choose a large dog the chances of them not living long is very real. I know life is not guaranteed but I was just hoping to have 8-9-10 years with this breed

This is by best bud. Had so many problems that he had to overcome. Not fair to him or us.

I've had two Great Danes from this breeder. I would never advise anyone to buy from them. Both of my pups died from obvious problems that were not monitored by the breeder. Degenerative issues that should not be bred into further generations. I had to euthanize a 14 month old female due to a severe case of wobblers disease and today I put down my best friend at age 6 1/2. He had a rough young life and had his left eye removed due to a degenerative disease. He also got bone cancer and we finally had to say good bye. We have had nothing but heart ache and bad luck with this breeder and we strongly suggest you do not buy from t

We got our two beautiful Danes from Penrose. Terri & Bobbie care deeply for this breed & their dogs. They are well informed & always have the best interest of the dog in mind. I look forward to many years with our big boys. Both are great with my small children and everyone that comes to visit. They have great, gentile temperaments. Goobers aside, they are perfect.

I adopted my dog from this kennel 9.5 years ago from the Sirius and Mickee. litter born in 2005 after graduating high school I didn't know much of the breed but wanted a harlequin since seeing the movie the ugly dachshund. I found Penrose Kennels and saw they had a harl mantle litter and fell in love with harl boy #2. There contract is like any other contract I have read and signed for all my dogs that I have gotten from other breeders like my standard poodle, giant schnauzer and my other great danes. They have to be altered at certain ages, fed a certain type of food cannot be bred and have to be given back to the breeder if you cannot keep them etc. I live in California so Brutus had to be flown and everything went great Terri and Bobby were great with any questions I had and concerns. Brutus has the sweetest temperament I could dream of never destructive, potty trained within days, great with other animals no aggression at all, and has always been very healthy. Now that he is 9.5 years his hips are giving out on him and has a harder time getting around but still every now and then he runs around like a puppy again.

We adopted our Great Dane from penrose Great Dane Kennels and couldn't be more pleased with our baby girl.

The only pleasant person we spoke to was the woman handling the final adoption paperwork. We went to meet a little female terrier mix named Muddy. We got three different stories about Muddy from three different people. As we were filling out paperwork we learned more about her that could have been a deal breaker if introduced at the appropriate time. During our meet and greet we were asked "Do you have any questions about Muddy?" To which we responded by telling the woman about the home that she would potentially be going into to feel for whether or not it would be a good fit. She responded with "Sorry. I dont know Muddy." Not Helpful. Why even ask? Our strictly 10 minute meet and greet had good results, my brother proceeded with adoption based on the info we were given (lived with dogs and children), took her home, and quickly found her to be VERY dog aggressive with their other pet. Absolutely ridiculous. This location is setting these animals up to fail. Its like they don't even want to adopt out their dogs.

It is not the shelter itself that is the issue, and the shelter is doing such good work! Truly! We have done multiple donations to TCRAS financially as well as with supplies. We have adopted three times from here. We adopted two absolutely wonderful dogs (they were "trauma" dogs, but we worked really hard with both of them to get them through many of their issues), and we adopted one cat that apparently was adopted out several times, and those adoptions failed (including ours). For the cat adoption, I do believe allowing your home animals to meet a potential animal you wish to adopt is crucial to seeing how they will get along, if it is a good match. This is not allowed at TCRAS, and that was a huge barrier with the cat adoption. My concern is that I do not feel that everything is truly disclosed to the adopter when the process happens. I know that not everything might be known, but just basic "obvious" things are not disclosed. The other concern/issue I have is that while some of the staff are just incredible and wonderful...others treat you like you are not in the "sorority," and they cannot be bothered with you. I tried with both of our dogs to call/email/or come in every 3-4 months to provide updates and let staff see how the dogs were thriving. I was dismissed as if I was a nuisance, so I stopped. I even wanted to volunteer with walking the dogs, but the attitude that was shown to me discouraged pursuing this. In addition, I found two strays that I had brought into TCRAS and when I called Angela answered; I was trying to tell her the stray dogs had some major gestational issues and to please let the owners know when the owners were found. Apparently the stray dogs I found are "frequent flyers" with being allowed to run around town, and Angela dismissed me acting like I was the problem for bringing them into TCRAS. It was quite disheartening. While we love our dogs and we take our pets to Dr. Conrad, we have decided that TCRAS is just not the right "fit" with the attitude and individuals that are the front line workers.
