I saw a post for a cat that had been rescued. It had been found at a truck stop. I emailed them because she looked like my cat that had jumped from our vehicle while at a truck stop when passing through that area. I asked for information and was informed I needed to come in. I am not from there. As I said we were passing through. So I emailed back explaining this and how she looked like mine and how their story was the same. They have yet to respond. It's been several days. I intended to follow up again but found it difficult to understand why they wouldn't be more helpful in a possible reuniting. read more

Tried to adopt a cat. They found every reason and excuse not to do so I went there looking for a new companion. My cat of twenty years had gotten sick and had to be euthanized. I live alone in a 1400 sq ft home I am disabled don't work and am home most the time. First they told me no because on the adoption form I marked a reason to get rid of an animal was because you don't have time for it thinking an animal needs attention and love. After making a plea by email and having a friend who knows the office manager there vouch for me. I believed I would be able to adopt the kitty. Nope. When I was visiting I asked if they ever held her and took her out for fresh air. Guess what the nasty piece of work that worked there. Turned that question into I want to let the cat outside. They banned me from ever adopting an animal from there. In a seemingly loving place for animals, you find the one you love and want to adopt for a friend for your other loving dog. WELP this isn't the place cause they won't let you have them because they need to be INSIDE dogs only or never left outside, even with a heated water bowl and dog house. I Had to surrender my cats today which was ultimately a very hard and emotional decision due to ongoing health issues in my life. The staff was extremely judgmental and gave dirty looks to me and my mom the whole time. I'm more than unimpressed and they didn't even have the space to take them in. I highly don't recommend this shelter unless you want to be made to feel like the bad guy. Shame on PAWS for life in Pueblo. To the staff, please be more courteous and understanding of people who are having to change their whole lives within the matter of a day and show a little more love and compassion!! Got a very sweet dog from them but he had severe separation anxiety and was destructive. No one ever told me anything about it. Fell in love with him and decided to work our way through it. Had to take him back to help family in Florida for an indefinite amount of time. Had every intention of getting him, if he was still available when I got back. Then, I got the displeasure of having to deal with the director, Linda. She said she would refund me $75. Time after time, she said the check had been sent and it hadn't. I stayed persistent and finally received a check for $60 about 2 months later. Worst place ever if you need to return a dog! Plus, I sent him back with a $30 bed and a new leather collar. I would never deal with this place again, thanks to the director and others being dishonest! Very unprofessional!! read more

Love the selection of pets. We bought a beautiful little rat terrier mix. However she was infested with fleas. This has become a nightmare for my household. We have now spent over $200 to try and rid us of these pests. When over counter flea meds did not work we turned to vet. Guess what thats not working either. Time to go back to vet. Buyer beware check your pet for fleas before you take them home from here. Paws please be more aware of the health of these pets. Check them all for fleas and ticks. read more

I like the idea of an animal shelter that doesn't euthanize however with that comes an over load of animals in a facility. There were a couple dogs that had manageable disabilities and many of them were old. Whenever I go into a place like that for some reason I automatically hear that Melissa Etheridge song playing in my head. You know, the one that they use on those animal cruelty commercials that can make a grown man cry. Anyway, I looked around a little bit and saw this really cute little dog just chilling by himself. He had a surprisingly calm demeanor considering he was in a cage with about five other dogs. The staff there were nice and seemed to actually like animals. The only thing I thought was a little weird was the fact that every staff member I encountered kept asking me a bunch of the same questions. Mind you we talked to about five or six of them throughout the adoption process. It kind of felt like I was being interrogated and I didn't like it at all. It's really not every single staff members business if I rent or own my home. So I adopted my dog that day and got him chipped. The total was $90.00. He's a great dog too. Very friendly, loving, and calm. He is already crate and potty trained. read more

In August, 2018, I adopted an adult Boston Terrier, who is the calmest, sweetest, loving, smart gentleman I've ever known. He is well-defined and polite. Loves to eat, so we watch closely and make sure he's on a routine that keeps him healthy and satisfied. His health became a concern when 7 days after I got him, he came down with Kennel Cough, which is very contagious. 10 days later he was cured by the antibiotics my Vet prescribed. Then he got an infection in his right eye. I ended up taking him to the Eye Specialists surgery in Colorado Springs for treatment, as my Vet couldn't get a grasp on the infection. She recommended I take him to the ER Hospital for Animals in Pueblo. They were very concerned about his eye, and got an appointment for Buck at the Eye Specialists. Poor Buck was so weak and ill. His eye was so infected it had to be removed that very same day. Buck's eye healed perfectly, and the surgeon did a superb job of stitching his eye closed. Buck is a happy-go-lucky gentleman with the best disposition of any dog I've ever known. The Kennel Cough, I was told, is common in these types of kennels, but is easily cured with antibiotics, but in the long run, it may have been a contributing factor which led to the eye infection. No way to know, but my financial investment ended up being substantial! Good thing I love Buck so much! read more

We love coming to PAWS to support the no kill mission, and we are amazed at how great the facilities are. HOWEVER: the older woman who works in the cat room is a nightmare. We have met her on several occasions while adopting and every single time she is very rude, makes comments to us about how we don't actually know anything about cats, and speaks to terribly about some of the animals there that it is no surprise they don't get adopted.she has not only given false information but tries to convince everyone that the animals she personally doesn't like are hopeless.
