She has a great apartment and loves all the activities. The conveniences of prepared meals and cleaning services is exactly what she needed as she could no longer take care of these things at her home. I visit her every week and have made many friends with the staff and residents. Many occasions I have dinner in the dining room with my mom and her friends and it's always a very pleasant experience. The food is quite tasty and there is always a good variety to choose from. I give my "hats off" to the kitchen staff as I'm sure it is very difficult to prepare food for that many people and satisfy most. The only concern my mom has voiced to me concerning the meals is that being diabetic there are lots of rice, potatoes and pasta served but she always gets a small portion of those and to date, her sugar count has not been affected. In conversing with the residents, I have found that the happier residents are those that made the decision to come to the Stratford on their own, as my mom did. A positive outlook and a sense of security is what the Stratford gave to my mom. At her home, she was alone, did not feel safe and lived through soap operas. Upon moving to the Stratford, she made new friends, feels very safe and has yet to watch any soaps. She has always loved games, so the activities are perfect for her (horse racing, bingo, wheel of fortune, pictionary, etc). Their are many other activities offered that she could enjoy but due to her physical limitations, she is unable to participate. I am very happy that she's in a place that she feels comfortable and safe because living out of town, I don't have to worry about her and her needs, as anything she needs is just an office call away and with her life alert system, she has EMT's at a push of a button. Overall, my mom has had a very positive and pleasant experience living at the Stratford.

I knew from the very first time of meeting with Paige at the Solista High Point, this was the place I wanted my mom to be. Going from a private living environment to a Independent Living community is a scary experience for anyone, but the Solista Staff took her under their wings as they do every tenant and made her feel she was a part of the Solista family for years. Thats what they are at the Solista, one big happy family. The Solista unlike other Senior communities doesn't change their ways acting differently once you've moved in, they continue to grow as a community and the residents there are made to feel important and have a voice. Every time you walk in the front entry, you are greeted by the sweetest smile from Tandra at the front desk, Paige and David are always seen corresponding with the residents and helping out wherever necessary ensuring no one goes without. I won't go into details but I can tell you I have personally witnessed Paige, David, Johnny and the entire crew for that matter going out of there way doing things for the Solista residents that are not a part of their job description to help a resident out in such a way it prevents the residents from going into an emotional crisis and puts the residents at ease. Its the little things that mean the most. The reciprocation from the staff is contagious... The Residents are fantastic at welcoming in new People and looking out for each other's best interest. You know when you take your parent out for a while and their focus is getting back home, it's got to leave you with the fullest confidence knowing they are exactly where they need to be. :-) Full respect and greatest appreciation to all of the Solista staff!

Our experience with Brookdale (High Point) assisted living facility had been a nightmare from day…read moreone. In short, I found Latisha Batts (director) shady, the staff nice but inept at dealing with Alzheimer's patients, their billing practices highly questionable, and corporate office absolutely unreachable. They quoted us a low care rate, immediately raised it to the price you would find in a memory care facility. Never informed us that they would not be able to provide the level of care an Alzheimer's patient would require. For instance, the "Wellness Director" would call to complain about my mother's behavior and asked me to persuade my mom to take her medication when she refused. Brookdale's final act was to send my Mom to the hospital for a seizure via ambulance and evict her from Brookdale as she was being admitted to the hospital. When she was released that day and we were arranging to have her transferred to another facility, Latisha demanded we hire a one-on-one babysitter service, on top of all the money we pay them each month, to watch her until she left Brookdale. If we did not hire a service they were going to charge very high price to provide their own. My mom has Alzheimer's, and all the issues that come along with that diagnosis. We paid Brookdale a high price per month to provide her care, but I was constantly put in the position to put out fires at a facility where their staff could not fulfill their duties. Some key events: - Cost before contract signing did not match cost after contract signing. - They use block billing. - Bills never matched what we were quoted and resolution was never completely provided. - They sent my mother to the hospital for a seizure that had happened and evicted her in the same action. - They are an assisted living facility but charged prices you would find at a memory care facility and did not on paper acknowledge that my mom had dementia. - The facility would complain that my mom was difficult, but when I talked to the resident councilor they stated that my mom was at base line with no issues, why the discrepancy? - They would call relatives to try to get them to resolve issues that arise when dealing with Alzheimer's patients. - They did not respect POA and gave paperwork to and solicited direction from siblings that were not POA. - When I made a surprise visit, her room smelled awful. - They lost her mattress protective cover and did not notify anyone to have it replaced. I have no idea how long her mattress was unprotected -- the mattress was ruined. We received a letter in the mail advising us that Brookdale currently has a class action lawsuit against them which alleges they purposely under-staff to maximize profits (look it up). If you don't decline certain areas of the contract when you sign, then you waive your right to dispute their care practices in court. I feel bad for the staff that have to do a difficult job without the support they need. When we learned my mom had been evicted we contacted the hospital and was put in touch with a social worker. The social worker did tell us that Brookdale has been going down hill for quite a while now. We were referred to a new facility, where she is doing fine without an issue. We are glad to be done with Brookdale.
