My seller clients and I contacted Bill to remove several very large, some dead, trees on their property in Belmont. We had the old diseased trees removed since the property is located in a high fire hazard zone and the limbs could have fallen on the home. Bill provided a very fair estimate and was also helpful in arranging removal of other old auxiliary structures from the property. He's super responsive and also personable, which we appreciated since it's stressful enough getting a home ready for sale. Our neighbor hired Peninsula Tree Care to trim some large limbs that were leaning on the Cable lines. These trees leaned over our yard. They did a very good job and the clean-up was excellent. The lawn had no leaves or debris on it when they were finished. We will definitely hire them the next time we need trees trimmed. read more

I once made the mistake of hiring Davey Trees to do some work and it was an awful experience. By contrast, I'd give Bill and his crew more than 5 stars for the excellent work they did in removing a tall Eucalyptus tree and trimming out some other huge tree branches. On Christmas Day, a very big and tall tree beside the fence in the backyard fell down by the heavy rain and wind. Got quotes from 4-5 other vendors for a large tree removal project. They came in the most knowledgeable and fairly priced. They were also fine with the height of the trees and sloping lot (which maybe half the vendors were more iffy about). Bill knew a lot about trees and also advised us to keep some prior to a landscaping project in the front of the house and admired the trees. I appreciated that as most tree removal companies rather just have more business. He had his guys grind up the wood into mulch and put it in the side yard area we could use it for landscaping later on. We had him trim some of our trees and he provided great advice on crowing and not over trimming certain areas. After we proactively had a fire risk assessment we had him come back again to clean up the area and trim trees. We have done business with him a few times, so have our local friends and neighbors on the street. Highly recommended and happy to answer any questions! read more

Terrible service all around! First of all they don't have a concept of time. Had them over to cut some tree down and they push the appointment twice and the third time they showed up at 8 am when they said the appointment window is between 9-11am. And they cut down the the wrong tree!!!!! I guess they offer a cut one get one free kinda deal! We want them to cut down a old juniper, and they knocked down a newly planted fruit cocktail tree right next. At least they didn't charge extra because it was a quickie, Great!!!!! read more

I used Peninsula Tree Care for the pruning of a very large, sick bay tree in my back yard. When I first called them, they came out the very next day and gave me an estimate. Ultimately this estimate turned out to be the most competitive estimate of the 4 others I got from various tree companies. When it came time for the work, they showed up promptly (actually 15 minutes early!) and were very a very nice and efficient crew. The work was done as promised, and they made sure everything was cleaned up before they left. This was a MAJOR job, since the tree has to be 100 years old, and parts of it were dead or dying. From some of the other estimates I received, it was clear that other firms didn't want the job. But these guys jumped right in and did a phenomenal job. I'm torn. I want to give 3.5 stars, not 4. I wanted the trees in our backyard trimmed so we could enjoy our view of the bay. We now have our view of the bay but I think the trees could have been trimmed in a more aesthetic way. They initially wanted to just buzz cut the top of the trees linearly. I insisted on some natural tree-shape when trimming them. We ended up somewhere in between.....but yes, we have our bay view. The "foreman" or "el jeffe" was pleasant with me but seemed to joke a little too roughly with the guys who were actually doing the work. Maybe there was an unknown familiarity among them.... Would I use them again? Can't say..... read more

We ended up contracting Peninsula Tree Care after comparing quotes. They came out the lowest price and were able to come in quickly to take care of our tree and stumps. It wasn't a perfect experience, because there was some miscommunication regarding timing of day (they ran late from another job), and also problems with USA North (who notify power/phone lines before stumps can be ground). However, the owner made it up to me and I can definitely recommend them. "The Intimidator" was one bad ass machine. They took out that tall large tree in no time. The others I contacted included Banning Tree Service, Davey Tree, Mitchell Tree Service, and Waller Tree Care. read more

The job: Remove & grind stumps of 25-30 shrubs, the tallest being 15' tall, and the largest diameter trunk about 15". The estimate: Best estimate -- Cody made the job sound easy (as opposed to others), and the estimate seemed slightly lower. In the end, it came out to significantly more than I expected, only because the stump grinding step is charged hourly, and it took longer than expected. I was ok with that - I feel I was charged fairly for the work done. The work: They showed up early, and were great to deal with. The crew was quick and efficient, and were (almost) done in 3 hours. At my request, they left me the chipped wood as mulch, piled it neatly on my driveway, making sure it wasn't blocking my car. Both the cutting crew & the stump grinding guy did a little additional work at no additional charge. One large tree was near some water pipes & sprinkler valves -- nothing was damaged or broken. Room for improvement: - During the job, there was some confusion about what had been promised in the estimate. The crew had to check with Cody about it. - They left in a bit of a rush & couldn't find me at that moment, so three plants that I needed removed were forgotten. It took a few days & a bunch of calls to get them to come back, but finally they did. As one other reviewer experienced, they had said they'd show up on a particular morning, then did not. - When they did, they did exactly as I asked: remove the 3 remaining plants & leave me the green cuttings piled on the lawn. Problem was that the stump grinding process subsequently piled a bunch of dirt on top of that -- so it ended up being a 3-hour job for me to rake back the dirt & haul the cuttings to the backyard so that the lawn wouldn't be smothered. I know, it was an unusual request - I just wish they'd either piled the cuttings further away, or given me a chance to move them before the grinding step. - Finally, their admin (Jennifer) is a bit trying to deal with. She made me tell her my full name, phone #, and address each of the many times I called, and even so she had the wrong contact info listed for my project. She would frequently promise to call me back, and then wouldn't. Also, her approach to having the bill paid was a little strange -- they don't give you an invoice at the time the job is completed, but the very next day she called and said they could come by to pick up the check. I had her fax me the invoice, and I've now called twice to try to pay (over the 4 days since the job was done). Yet when she calls for this purpose, there's a bit of an attitude, as if I'm deliquent on a bill or refusing to pay. Obviously these are minor issues -- on the whole, they did a great job at a competetive price, and were also a good company to deal with. I think their main problems are in their administrative & record-keeping areas. I'm sure their business would run a lot more smoothly if they were just a bit more organized. read more

I've used Peninsula Tree Care before and was fairly happy. When we needed some trees cut, we requested several quotes from different companies. To make a long story short, they showed up one morning unannounced when we have not told them that we chose them for the job. They told us that storm is coming in two days (fyi, it didn't and the forecast showed no storm for that whole week). Weighing between the storm and that we had used them in the past, we agreed to have them proceed with the job. Because of this unannounced visit, we were not able to arrange access to neighbor's tree that had been agreed to be trimmed as part of the job, and there's no one home that's familiar with what has been agreed. The owner came and collected the check and told us that he will come back for $100 to "fix it". From there, it never happened. We left messages and did get a call back that message will be passed on to Bill (owner). One time, we finally get it scheduled and they never showed up. We called the office and Bill called back and said they couldn't come that day because of other job. He promised to call the following morning at 7:15am. He never called. This company shouldn't be in business. Be aware of what pigs they are. They cut down tree next door right outside my daughters second story window at 7:30 am without giving us notice or waiting until after 8:00 am. They completely blew a mess in our yard and all over are clean cars and didn't even attempt to clean it up. I called company several times with no return call. They also used our ladders on the side of our house without asking. They didn't even clean up mess on the property next door properly. I would never ever hire a company like that. read more

Good crew, fast work, and good clean-up. Called this company on the recommendation from the SFFD to remove a tree that was falling too close for comfort near our home and power lines. Spoke with the office staff at 10:20, she called back to give me a window of when the crew would get there of 2 hours or less at 10:40 and the crew showed up at 12:30. Before 2pm all the work was completed and the grounds cleaned up. They worked well together and where very thorough. Glad they were able to respond today and they were priced competitively with a company that gave us a quote but could not come out to do the work for weeks. The wind wasn't going to allow us to wait weeks. Peninsula did a great job, happy to refer them positively. read more

Peninsula Tree Care is awesome! We had a dead 90 foot pine and a rotting poplar in our backyard. These guys came in and removed both with amazing speed and little to no damage to our yard or our neighbors' yards. Additionally, the price was incredible. I would recommend them hands down. Each day when they left the job, they cleaned up after themselves. There was some minor fence damage (amazing that's all there was) and they were out that evening and the next day to fix it. We needed 3 Monterey Pine trees removed from our backyard. Bill was very knowledgeable about these diseased trees. He also told me how to get a tree removal permit ASAP. He said it would be a two-day job, but lo-and-behold, the day turned out to be a rainy one and his other crews couldn't work at their sites so they came over to my property. I heard we had 12 guys working! They did the job in just 4 hours. They were in and out so fast I didn't see any of the process. I made an appointment for them to come between 9 and 1 and at about 2 p.m. they called and said they got busy and were unable to show. This after waiting for them for 4 hours. They guaranteed that they would come at 8 in the morning the next day. I waited till 9:30 when someone called again saying they were at another job and would not be able to make it on that day either. They offered to reschedule in the future. Really? I spent a total of five and a half hours waiting for these guys and it was pretty rude not to have at least called. Don't know anything about the quality of their work but the quality their service frankly is terrible. Would never call them back again. read more

Called to have 5 trees cut down in our backyard. Talked to the very friendly women on the phone who sets up the appointment, she was patient and friendly, Bill came out the next day, gave us advice on what would be best to do, we thought it was a very fair price, they came out a few days later, cut down 5 trees, took out 4 stumps, did a great job, saved a few plants for me before removing stumps, which I really appreciated. read more

Peninsula Tree Care is extremely unreliable! On three occasions they have simply been no shows. No call, nothing. The first time they said there was an emergency and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Today was the third time when they were schedule to come back and trim more off my tree. No show. When I called and complained that they had done this to me three times the owner said, "Yeah, but it's the first time today." WTF. When they finally did manage to arrive and trim my tree the first time, the work, which was completed by a "climber" named Angel, was very good. I requested Angel return for the trim and was told that he was no longer at the company, so whether other climbers are as good as Angel I do not know. read more

In spite of the excellent YELP reviews, this company has been nothing but awful. They called 0700 to cancel the day the were to do the work, and said they could do it the next day. The next day they were a no show. I called and rescheduled and in spite of an email confirming the new date, another no show. I called and they said they were on their way, but it is now 1:15 pm and no calls to explain why they did not show again. HORRIBLE! Changed the date of service on us twice. Arrived late on the day the service was set to arrive. Told us they would work for 8 hours, worked for maybe 6 and left a huge mess, that I then had to pay someone else to clean up. Their bid including hauling away all the debris and mess, they did none of it and I was stuck paying extra. Plus, they added additional charges onto the original bid. I would not recommend this company for any sort of tree service. I went with them because they were the cheapest, now I realize they were the cheapest for a reason. read more

Bill just came out today. He looked at all my trees and gave me really good advice free of charge. He is super knowledgeable and told me which trees were healthy and how to tell if there is new growth, and which trees needed to be fertilized and how to do it. As for pruning, he also advised me to check in with him later in the fall and not to prune now. I also have a dead pear tree and he knew exactly what happened to it just when I described what it looked like. He explains everything in detail and knows exactly how to assess the health of your trees. So many of my trees died and I'm so relieved there is someone so knowledgeable to advise me now.
