I had my Ford Ranger transmission serviced before I was taking a trip to Southern California. While on the five at midnight, my transmission started slipping. When I pulled out the dipstick, I saw the transmission fluid low and I noticed that transmission fluid was leaking. Unfortunately, on these newer models transmission fluid is added from underneath with a pump. So it was impossible for me to fluid. Getting a tow on Highway five at 1 o'clock in the morning morning is a nightmare. I finally got to tell and the following day a very reputable transmission shop told me that transmission fluid pressure cause the hose to pop off at the base of the transmission. He told me I probably overfilled it. Well, it wasn't me that filled the fluid. Needless to say, I had them SERVICE it add the fluid fluids necessary to make sure I can make it back home. I called the Rico and explained to him what had happened and he vehemently denied that he had done anything wrong. It's just something that happened. I find it too coincidental that Wright after having my transmission serviced this happened. He's a very nice man, however, I as a business owner know that sometimes my employees make mistakes and it's part of doing business that you sometimes have to make things right at cost. I just had my recently purchased 2012 Mazda 5 serviced for a transmission fluid and filter change. Not only were they prompt in getting a time and date set up, but they did thorough research on my vehicle's transmission which requires a specific fluid type and cannot use any other brand. Rico and his team were absolutely amazing with communication, quoting thousands less than a repair shop in san francisco. He gave me a very fair quote and i decided to go with him, as he seemed trustworthy and knowledgable. Im so glad i worked with Rico and his team, they rebuilt my 2002 toyota transmission and i have been driving it over a year now. Go here if you need transmission work. My Jeep Cherokee 4x4 had transmission/ABS lights appear on 1/5/25 (happy new year). I called every Jeep dealership in the Bay Area - no availability for over a week. Called 10+ shops to get it in ASAP because I could not drive it (no availability for days). Found Ricco and his Peninsula Transmission on YELP. Ricco got me in same day. Ricco is awesome, responsive, professional, fast and reasonably priced. Ricco figured out it was a wheel sensor in under 30 min. Started working on a replacement part while I waited for my ride. By the next day at 10am the car was done and under $400. WOW! They are fantastic, especially when it comes to diagnosing the issue! Had warning light on BMW 525 and regular mechanic used the computer and those error messages said we needed to rebuild the transmission (over $7K). We wanted another opinion and Peninsula Transmission did a diagnosis and found that the pan had leaked. Bottom line: all we needed was a new pan and refill the fluid. They saved us from spending over $7K on a new transmission!!! Car works like new! Very grateful for their honesty, great service and great price! read more

Called them up for a quote and was a very fair price so I brought my car in and picked up the same day for a transmission oil pan gasket and filter change. On Friday 6/3/22 I spoke to the manager about my 99 Dodge Dakota... That year and many similar Dodge Ram Trucks have a common problem of a Band Keep common loose as is the case with my vehicle. The manager stated that he had just repaired a Dodge with the same issue and gave an estimate over the phone around 850 to 1200 and to bing my truck in for a test drive on Monday. I took of work early to get my to the shop as requested when I arrived he first stated he was to busy to even do a test drive... I reminded him.of our conversation and he made the extreme effort to drive my truck around the block... Upon his return he agreed it was mostly likely the keep and asked what i would like to do... I stated a Transmission service and to replace the keep just as we spoke about on Friday the 3rd... He looked at me and stated " Oh we don't service Transmissions we only do complete rebuilding of Transmissions" I was shocked and upset we had already spoke already gave me possible price for the service... I thanked him very much for wasting my time... and will never refer a friend or family or stranger to this shop nor will i ever return!!! The problem is Peninsula Transmission has too many potential customers, so they can afford to treat people like crap. Every business needs a substantial amount of competition in order to drive down cost and improve service. This shop is way too privileged in that regard. Not much accountability at the shop in my opinion. Rude customer service. Dont expect them to cut you a deal. They will attempt to get as much money out of you as possible. They have plenty of sheep to fleece. If a person wants a good price and exceptional service just get rid of them and go to the next one. Weed out all the customers that have higher expectations. Just get the people in that will keep their mouth shut and open their wallets. This is the impression I got at the shop. read more

I understand nothing about cars so I needed someone trustworthy to inspect my vehicle, do an oil change, etc. A lot of places will overcharge or make up things that your car "needs" (but I wouldn't be able to tell whether the service is necessary). I took my 2014 Chevy Express van to Rico a few weeks back as he seemed to be most professional in regards to my needs. My van is my only van for my service business. I called a few other reputable shops that were referred over to me and I got responses of "good luck locating a new transmission " or "we are booked out a month etc". Finding Rico on Yelp saved me!! He located my transmission at a California warehouse and I doubled and tripled checked to make sure it was correct one. He knew my van is my bread and butter and he had it ordered it on a Thursday. They worked hard to repair my car, explained everything clearly, and when ultimately some of the work could not be completed because of a very backordered part (not at all their fault), they refused to charge me for their time or for another part they had paid for out of their own pockets. Wow. I started this review in Oct 2016, but never posted. My car has been fine for 5 years! I'm starting to have issues again, but it may be due to my negligence in getting the transmission fluid changed. My transmission was slipping and shifting rough, but only when the car was hot. Was told i needed a new transmission. I came here because of reviews, the lower prices, the customer service when i called for a quote, and the "tour" of the shop before dropping off my car. I dropped my car off on Sunday and was told the work would take 3 working days. By Wednesday evening, I hadn't heard anything. I called Thursday. Rico apologized as he had been super busy, and said the car should be ready that evening or early morning. (Hmmm, what happened to 3 days?) I got a call on friday morning saying the car was ready. The $2300 maximum amount i was quoted was the actual total. $2300 and a few cent. Rio told me to come back after ive driven a few hundred miles and let them check everything. But the warranty says come back in 10-20 days. Nobody told me that. When i picked up the car it was a little dirty and had a spider web on the driver side mirror, but whatever. Pulling out of the parking lot, (with no music) it felt like It was still slipping into 2nd, but i may have been trippin. The freeway was smooth. The higher gears feel great and it feels like the car is running better! With the music on, it feels like a new car! The next day I drove the car to Lake Tahoe. Everything's smooth. I called last minute to see if they could look at my truck because the gears were messing up (not a mechanic, forgive the lingo) and Rico told me to come on over and within 10-15 min of getting there, the problem was fixed. It was so simple that he didn't charge me where other mechanics would have at least asked for labor costs. Peninsula Transmission was recommended to me by Burlingame Independent for having my transmission checked. I dropped off my car early in the morning before work and received a phone call from the owner by mid-afternoon with an update. After determining that my current engine light problem and engine twitches were not a result of my transmission, the owner told me the next steps I would have to take with an auto shop to get my car further evaluated. The owner gave my a lot of useful advice and probably spent at least an hour on my car, but did not ask for any payment for his services. The owner is very nice and did not try to take advantage of my car situation. I am very grateful for all the help and will definitely return here when I do have a transmission issue....highly recommended! read more

I went in early on a Saturday and met Francisco Rico, who I later learned is the co-owner. Francisco helped me on the spot. When I offered to pay him for his time and equipment he asked me to instead post a review on yelp. Money is hard to come by so I really appreciate him not charging me. Upon recommendation from my trusted mechanic Matt ( from burlingame independent...see my review on them too), I brought my car to Rico to get my transmission serviced. He was nice, thorough and gives you best and worst case scenarios. He did a quick test drive assessment and suggested a service to flush the transmission and change the fluid. My car is starting to be an older stateswoman but after the service I could feel the difference in the way my car was running. I recommend this shop for people in need of help for their car transmission. I found them to be honest and reasonable which are both key qualities for me when doing any auto repairs. We came to Peninsula Transmission on recommendation from our friend. He' s used them and sent others, they all spoke highly of the services they received. We have a 1999 Saturn that started having slipping issues and no reverse. We never had any problems with the transmission, no warnings it was going out, just all of a sudden....which was odd. My husband tried trouble shooting and was convinced it was out of adjustment or something. His friend had him call Rico. Rico had us drop it off. He explained all charges up front and told us he would call with the outcome. He was very honest and upfront. Also, he thought it was something like a loose bolt, something that apparently happens in Saturns. We were praying it was just a loose bolt and not a failing transmission. As he promised, Rico called us in the afternoon, the car was fixed, the transmission was good and it was a loose bolt in the transmission. We were out of there for under $400. My automatic transmission would not shift into a higher gear so had to be towed home where I found Peninsula Transmission here on Yelp. I slowly drove to their shop and was very warmly greeted by RIco who is very friendly and informative. I expected to hear $2-3,000 for a new transmission as my car is notorious for them going bad. Left the car and next day got a call from Rico: $180 and thats been 6 months and still going strong. I know for a fact had I gone to any number of shops, they would have wacked me for ten times that much, so it's very uplifting to find an old-fashioned honest place these days. Brought my truck here to have the transmission fluid and filter replaced. Rico gave me a decent quote and had him service my vehicle. He also charged me additional for having the crossover pipe removed. The next weekend I did an oil change and it did not appear like my crossover pipe has been removed. I went back to Rico and told him that it did not look like the cross over pipe has been removed and he overcharged me. He talked to his mechanic and he refunded me back. Rico is an honest stand up guy to deal with. A year later I had my transmission go out. I called Rico up again. His price is a lil more higher than B&B in DC but better than the aholes at San Bruno transmission. Still though.... a good, honest guy to deal with with great customer service. read more
