If you're in the area, this is an iconic must stop location!…read more Huge portions: My husband and I can barely finish sharing one of the large sizes. Fast service: even though there's always a queue, it moves quite quickly. Fair amount of options: if you're not into the hype, there's sandwiches and desserts as well inside. Gluten Free option available if you schedule it in advance. Coffee, loads of merch to buy... Yes the food here is great, they didn't become famous for no reason, but it's the full experience you get to take away with you really!!!

Waaay better than the rubbish, greasy pasties you an buy in train stations in London!! - If you come at lunch you'll have to wait...it seems like this place is pretty famous...we had to queue for about 10 minutes. - I also bought some saffron buns for £1...they were yummy too. *I actually misheard her and wrote myself a note to look out for "Phelp's" ...but I assume that was just my inability to listen properly as I couldn't spot a shop called Phelp's!! ** Later my other Cornish friend told me that "swede" isn't actually swede(!) it refers to a Cornish turnip.

Great little bakery that is a longstanding tradition on the Padstow waterfront strand…read more Traditional Cornish pasties are the big draw, with apparently award-winning pastry and lovely, moist potato and meat filling enriched with a dash of clotted cream. The chicken version also has leeks, while the beef seems to contain a root vegetable, either turnip or Swede, maybe? Regardless, they are both delicious. A friend tried the lamb and mint, reporting lovely flavor, but a bit of chewiness to the sparse meat tidbits, The Chough's treacle tart is very tasty, with bright flashes of lemon zest here and there to lighten the molasses top notes and sugary richness before it becomes overwhelming. The Bakewell tart is also very nice though it uses sliced almonds instead of the more traditional almond paste, which isn't to everyone's taste. Finally, we took some of the scones home to eat with piles of jam and clotted cream, and they proved up to the task, though otherwise unremarkable as scones always are.

The Chough offers a proper and tasty pasty. A Pasty is to baked goods what the egg and banana are…read moreto their respective food groups: they come with their own carrying case. And The Chough's pasties are made of the most wonderful fillings and crust, especially the rolled bit that you grab on to whilst eating out the center bit. If you find yourself in Padstow, go on, contribute to the local economy and sink your teeth around a real bit of British culinary history. God bless the Pasty. God bless The Chough.
