Store in a historic home in the FW Fairmount neighborhood
    Laura P.

I have been a loyal lender us customer since 1986, when I had to use their catalog to get then-hard-to-find chipotle chiles mailed to me at the University of Texas. 35 years later I am still buying from Pendery's, and when I was back home visiting my Mom in FW I would go to their original store in downtown Fort Worth where the business had been operating since the 1870s. Needless to say, I buy in bulk and I don't replenish with inferior grocery store national brand chili powder or powdered chile. Pendery's will do that to you, and your cooking will be better for it. 5 Heritage amazing chile stars

The bottle of hot sauce this spot sells named "The Colon Cleanser" is definitely going to end up as a couple of folks Christmas gifts this year (LOL!). This place has tons of different spices, as well as spice blends/rubs, and only the good Lord knows how many different chiles. They also have a few herbs, teas, and about a million and one different types of hot sauce. This is a store you can easily get lost in for an hour or longer if you're hanging with friends who also love to cook. You can also find some cute, unique gifts here, such as cookbooks, aprons, socks...yes, socks with pics of chiles on them of course (HA!), aprons, tea pots, candies (with chiles in them), a coffee plant growing kit, a beer foamer, etc. But, like many Texans, these folks especially love peppers - there is one whole section of the store devoted to them. I am saving up funds to come back for some of the Pure vanilla they sell (whole bean, liquid, and powder forms). The pure stuff is pricey, but it lasts forever and makes foods taste amazing. The lady who was working the day we went was friendly and happy to answer any questions. There is a small parking lot in front of the store. Happy "spicing!"

Drove by this place last week and asked the hubby to turn around. Wow! They have every kind of spice, spice blends and herbs you could want. I was like a kid in a candy store. I've already gone back for a second visit. I want one of everything. We bought the Pendery's chili blend no salt and made chili which my husband entered into a chili cook off at his work and he won!

Pendery's is one of those places on earth that if you are in Fort Worth you just have to go. From simple spices to spices that will make you the Premier Chef on the block to things as exotic as Pendery's finest, PURE vanilla with a whole Madagascar Bourbon vanilla bean captured inside. Check out the website @ http://www.penderys.com/ You will be glad you did.

Wow!!! When I checked into this place I saw I had written than a 5-star review. It's been a while since I've been here and I can see why they would have a 3 star review. I sincerely hope the short Hispanic last working in this store doesn't own it because she's definitely in the wrong business. If she doesn't and whoever owns this store reads this, this women needs some training in customer service. I stopped in today looking for cinnamon. I was lured by the spices at the front that highlighted margaritas and since yesterday was National Margarita Day (weekend!) I wanted to try some of these fun things out. I saw lime powder and I asked if I could use that when I don't have fresh limes. She looked at me and said "that is chili lime salt" - I was confused because it clearly said Lime POWDER. She walked over and saw the lime powder, said "that's in the wrong place" and proceeded to remove all the lime powder packets and move them. She never answered my question so I asked again and she seemed put out like I should know what to do with lime powder. Back to why I went there in the first place - i went I specifically for a Ceylon Cinnamon. Actually, I couldn't remember which type of cinnamon I needed. When I asked about cinnamon she walked me to the cinnamon sticks. When I asked which cinnamon I needed that was healthier to consume she told me Ceylon. I asked her if they carried it in powdered form. She said NO and walked off. I asked why they didn't carry it in powder form and she said "we do carry cinnamon in powder form" and showed me the bags. I asked again about the Ceylon cinnamon and she gave me what felt like a lecture on all cinnamon needed to be consumed in moderation. I googled Ceylon and saw you can consume 2.5 tsp a day. Her entire demeanor was rude. She walked off. I briefly looked around for a few more seconds and walked out. She didn't say a word to me when I headed for the door. L left with No cinnamon. No margarita spices. Just a vow to let you know about this and to never return! Central Market, a drive to Penzey's spices in Dallas or online shopping here I come!

I was making a recipe that required a chili spice outside even Central Market's capabilities. Pendery's had exactly what I needed, along with quite a few things I didn't need that came home with me too. The quality was excellent and was VERY reasonably priced for the quantity compared to inferior store bought brands. I would also recommend coming here if you are looking for a unique gift for a foodie friend. They had a lot of options in local and regional cookbooks and other things besides spices. The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars is that their hours make it a bit more difficult to just stop in, especially if you work during the day. That is usually the case with small businesses though. Just be sure to check the hours when you are heading over there. I always seem to want to go on Sundays or on weeknight evenings, when the grocery shopping gets done and that's a no-go here. Their hours are: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

If you're a "sensitive" & spook ease steer clear.

This was my second time getting delivery from Bangkok Chef's Table, and I was really disappointed…read more I gave them 5 stars on my last review, but this time the food only merited a 2 or 2.5 at best. Sigh. My Tom Kha Gai soup, which had so impressed me in my last review, was half the size at the very same price and was, sadly, not half as tasty nor flavorful. It was only mediocre at best. The soup was still nice and creamy, but it only had mushrooms and onions, no cabbage, peppers or spices like it did last time when the Tim Kha Gai totally knocked it out of the park! So I am worried this place might not be as consistent as I had hoped. I also ordered the shumai appetizer. Here again, I was disappointed. It said 8 for $6, but only 4 came, and they were super chewy with the sweet chili sauce just not to my liking. Luckily I had my own shumai dipping sauce, but they were still too chewy and not worth the $6 price tag. I would not recommend trying their shumai. Lastly, I tried the chicken satay appetizer. It was pretty good. You get a decent amount of chicken for the price ($11), and half of it was cooked just right, but half of it was overcooked and dried out. It did not come with cucumber salad, which I love and had expected. And the peanut sauce was tasty and spicy, but it had too many peanuts in it and not enough sauce. I would have liked a smoother sauce. For example, if they put it back in the blender for a while, then the sauce would still be spiced differently from normal peanut sauce, but much more to my liking. Nevertheless, I liked this place so much the first time that I tried it that I will likely order it one more time as a test. But I am only going to try an entree, if I do. I have another Laotian place that I am finding to be more consistently tasty and reliable, though. So I will likely stick to ordering from there for the foreseeable future.

It was spicy. It was flavorful. It was absolutely delicious. There was a good amount of chicken to rice ratio. Easily devoured the whole thing in a few minutes. Going with "average" lunch here today…read more While we've been here a number of times, it's been nearly a year since the last visit. Some things stood out as different today: - It was desolate on a Thursday at noon, just 2 couples eating - The food is different - see below The good? Service was fast. There were 4 male workers hanging out, ready to serve us. So that was nice. Also, the app and meal came out fast. Today, two of us shared: - Fresh Spring Roll with Shrimp - Pad Key Mao with Beef There were two shrimp rolls in the order. Both were very fat - stuffed full of lettuce and cabbage mostly. Each roll had 1/2 a shrimp in it. For long rolls, I'm accustomed to two 1/2 shrimps in them. Being so fat, they were harder to eat as they sort of fell apart from the bulk of green in it. As we split our meal, they served each of the two rolls on their own plates, each with a dish of peanut sauce. So that was nice. The Pad Key Mao (Drunken Noodle) was meh. I'd rate it a 2.5 on its own. The presentation was nice but there just wasn't much flavor and the beef wasn't thin strips of sirloin. I think we'll pause Spice for a bit.

The owner and staff are very kind, and the food is extremely consistent. Some recommendations: Boat noodles: What they are famous for...sort of like the Thai response to pho, but with a thicker broth with lots more herbs (and the blood.) I prefer it to any pho I've had hands down. Khaosoi: Egg noodle curry soup with crispy noodles on top, and some pickled veggies to add a salty contrast. Suki haeng / nam: This is the Thai version of sukiyaki. Suki haeng is stir-fried, while suki nam is the same dish but in a soup broth. The sauce is a mix of sweet and spicy. I've tried some other variations of this dish elsewhere, but none compare. Kung nam khon: Shrimp noodle soup, delicious if you like something a little on the sour side (lots of lime and lemongrass flavors in the broth.) All the curries, but especially panang, matsaman or pineapple. Noodles: The classics like pad woon sen, pad Thai and pad se ew are safe options which always taste good. The pad Thai is not as heavy on the sweet sauce as many places, so be aware of that. It's more smoky which I think makes it stand out in a good way. They also have the best Thai tea and Thai coffee around in my opinion.
