Made an appointment a week ahead, only to have it cancelled 30 min before the appointment. No explanation was left.

I've been here 5 times in 6 weeks, I like to keep my fades close. 2 of the 5 times, I show up with the business closed. First time, I booked November 10th for an 11th appointment. Showed up, they were closed, no warning no cancellation. It was Veterans Day. I understand, perhaps it's a holiday and they forgot to close their schedule days before. I would also like to note that they closed their schedules either the night before or on the same day they decided to close--without informing me. I found out when I tried to book another appointment, after I showed up to a closed business for mine. Maybe it was a fluke? So I went 3 more times (once a week) and no issues. 5th time, a few days ago, I booked days in advance, and on Dec. 30th I show up on my confirmed appointment and again the business is closed. Checking other peoples reviews, this happened to more people than me on different dates. For a $30 haircut plus $5 tip, it's probably not worth my time, or yours if you need to prepare for an interview or occasion. read more

Never have I had a 30.00 haircut look this good. Tina did an incredible job, and my hair is hard to cut. First thing, I'm tall. Next thing, I have super long hair. We discussed the issues I had with my last visit and he ensured me that the employee in reference is no longer cutting hair for him. Had my first appointment and was happy with hair cut service and price. 8 weeks later I call for appointment and call goes to voicemail so I leave message that I need a hair cut. Very expensive for the worst fad ever the lady that cut my hair was nice but even admitted she was not good at fades.. they should have connected me with some one who had experience with fades. I've been having my hair cut, dyed, spiked, shaved and straightened by this shop for 20+ years. Illusions has remained in the same mall for decades. They are one of the few shops that has stood the test of time. They have adapted to all of the changing the styles. Nelson, Luis and Tina give some of the tightest cuts I've ever seen/had. They take their time and make sure everything is perfect. They have all the top notch cutting tools and all the best in gels, pomades and shampoos. They even do straight razor shaves and hot towels! With an awesome antique, retro, rockabilly, hipster vibe inside you just know that your in good hands. Tight cuts and good people. I'll never go anywhere else, and neither should you! This place is fantastic! Really cool vintage atmosphere and very friendly barbers. I usually come in on the weekends to get a haircut and a beard trim and they do an amazing job with both. I even get compliments from my wife on how good I look afterwards. They also have a great selection of shaving gear, I bought a safety razor from them and they gave me recommendations on the best gear to pair with it. Just got my hair cut by Clara at Illusions - great job! She is skillful, listens to what you say and takes her time. She never got annoyed at my very specific requests and pointing out areas to be cut short her or blended more, etc. I highly recommend her. And you can't beat $20 for a haircut. OMG a stylist that actually heard me : ) I'm a female with a short textured cut and I just came back from my first trim with Tina and am totally pleased! I told her what I wanted and as she worked she would stop and check with me, let me feel it out and go from there so as not to go too short - I was a bit picky and she was very patient and didn't rush even though her next customer had already arrived. Lawrence gave me the best haircut today that I have received in years. A convenient appointment time was available and the whole space and atmosphere is excellent and comfortable. Tina has always done a good job as well. My hair is fine and multi-hued from the sun, and is not easy to cut. I am so glad that they are able to be open again. I heartily recommend them! read more

Lawrence, Tina, Joanne and Melba are awesome! The shop is now under new ownership, with a renovation currently in progress. It is pretty cool to see Lawrence's vision come to reality with subtle changes upon each visit. Although not yet complete, the initial transformation feels great and you can already sense the amount of pride and energy Lawrence is investing into the shop. I'm one of those guys who has no idea how to explain my haircut (yeah, I'm weird). I showed Lawrence a Facebook photo to mimic the hair style I had and he nailed it with ease. The barber shop also offers the old school style shaves, which not a lot of shops offer, at least in this area. I intend to try this out at some point. Lawrence was also able to convert me and switch from the normal cartridge based shaving blades to using a dual edge safety razor. Shaving is no longer a chore, and now I am able to get a closer shave! If you've felt unsatisfied with your current barber, give this place a shot. Visually and aesthetically pleasing, while providing a fast, customer oriented experience with some awesome conversations along the way. Keep it up folks! read more

This is my bf's first visit to this barber shop and it was such a positive experience that I decided I needed to leave a review on how great I was treated. He got his haircut just the way he wanted it, they have lots of pictures of styles so it was easy to choose from. It was great that they really do take the time to cut your hair just right and listen which is something very hard to find these days as most of the chain haircutting place just want to rush you out the door and move on to the next customer as soon as possible, not a great business model at all. The place was busy on a Saturday with 3 barbers being real busy taking care of customers, great to see the old time barber shop has not died or is going away. The place deserves 5 stars all the way, I would give them more if I could without a doubt. My favorite thing is that you can either call in to make a reservation or just walk in. The shop is spacious and not the usual hole in the wall, dirty and ugly barber shop that I have seen many times before. read more

Came here 5 minutes ago, I had a great experience at this barbershop. They offered me a free drink. The lady who works there listens on how you would like your hair cut to be. I've gone here a handful of times over the years, but they recently got a new owner and he has done a great job. I love the classic barbershop atmosphere, and the complimentary whiskey or beer while you wait. Jen (Jenny?) did a great job on my hair and communicated what she was doing throughout the cut making sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. She did a great job giving me layers, and she was quick. She offered to flat iron my hair for free but I was in a time crunch and had to decline. I was a walk-in so I ended up waiting awhile and got to chat with the owner about how hard he's worked to make this place the best. I will definitely be going back! read more

Wow, this place is a huge relief for me. I had been the recipient of terrible hair cuts at a big chain place in Pacifica far too many times. It's hard to find someone you like and can trust to cut your hair. After getting a haircut at the big chain place that made it look like I'd enlisted in the military, I had enough. It's worth it to pay a little more to go to Illusions. What a great place. I walked in and was greeted in a friendly manner. I had to wait a little bit because there was only one stylist there and she was working on someone else, but someone else came in and it was my turn. Clara is amazing. She listened to what I wanted. She took her time. She asked me along the way if what she was doing was what I wanted. I had a photo with me of the cut I kept trying to get at the big chain place. So if you have had the experience I have - BAD CUTS for under $20 - you won't feel that way in Clara's hands. She's amazing. I left the shop so happy, I was almost skipping. Now I feel like my husband needs to take me out on a date, my hair looks so amazing! read more

Got a cut here once and have kept coming back ever sense. Laurence the owner cuts great and has very good hours that are convenient for those of us that work 9-5. He makes accommodations for me from time to time which you can't find anywhere else. My 6 year old son enjoys getting his hair cut and a good old gum ball!
