Nearly every time I come to Juneau I end up here. I always tell myself eeeeh it's not THAT great, they're fine, I can go without. But I just keep coming back. This is a hole in the wall on the main drag in Juneau. Pel'menis are Russian dumplings. Insane!!! It's not really a place you go to have dinner. It's a nine dollar snack. Drinks are a dollar. Meat or potato. I had the meat. A little spicy and even more so if you add sriracha. They have rice vinegar which is a nice accent. They are topped with cilantro. Small little place in downtown Juneau. They have two options of Russian dumplings: Meat Dumplings or Potato Dumplings. Both are delicious! The dish comes with your dumpling of choice, homemade bread, butter, spicy sauce, and optional sour cream. If you mix all of them together, it's almost like a pasta dish. Unfortunately, I would have to say this spot didn't match my high expectations. There's great potential with the product and concept yet the space and delivery of the food left room for improvement. From a tourist perspective, with a little tweaking, this place could be a Juneau "must visit". (Visitors would love the educational Russian aspect) The rundown: -No sour cream during my visit (a staple for dumplings) -Poor service "don't give a shit attitude" -this was the worst part of the visit. I felt as if I were eating as fast as possible to escape the shitty heavy metal music and "I'm so edgy" attitude of the gentleman working the counter -menu signage (simple is cool but when your staff doesn't seem super enthusiastic about the product, a small menu board is a nice stand-in for food explanation) this would also help save the staff from having to explain it all to every customer time after time. -spruce the space up (it doesn't take money to a space clean and cheerful) -swap out styrofoam for something more Eco-friendly -the beef dumplings I had were tasty but I can't help but think some sour cream would have taken them to the next level read more

This place is a gem. Taste for dollar this is the best restaurant in Juneau, and was the highlight of my visit, excluding all the natural beauty. The pelmeni Russian dumplings, which I preferred in potato (but were still good as beef) are drenched in a wonderful mix of curry, spicy sauce, and butter that hit all the right spots when mixed with the sour cream. However, the vibe of the place really takes it up to 5 stars for me. This isn't catering to some wannabe rich crowd or tourists, it's laid back and makes you feel like you're a local in the area.
