High on the mountain, where the road just about ends, sits a piece of Nordic paradise called Pellestova. This is a smallish resort, with 40 or so rooms. There are privately owned condos on the property also.
Location If you want solitude combined with top shelf food/accommodations, this is the place. The property is in the midst of cross country skiing and hiking trails; if you link them all together, I believe there are over 300km of trails. The road past Pellestova is hard pack gravel and perfect for a mountain bike. The bikes they have for rent are in pretty decent shape and they have a variety of frame sizes. I grabbed a bike for a 3 hour ride on the roads and it was comfortable and more important, reliable.
Rooms, to my American eyes, are slightly larger than most Norwegian hotels. The wifi is robust!
Food - Props to the mad genius that chose to put a 5 star restaurant and wine cellar at the road's end. I went with the 3 course dinner, red deer on a bed of greens and berries appetizer, entrecote bernaise with celery root reduction and roasted potatoes and panecotta with more berries. Breakfast is a buffet that while I was there featured cold lamb chops. They also have a ski trail side pub with wood grilled pizza's in winter. (Yes, I am a carnivore, but I did notice they have a number of veg options and seem willing to accommodate.)
Service - from front desk to restaurant and room keeping, I thought they had a very well trained and enthusiastic staff.
I've stayed at other trailside hotels in the region but Pellestova is by far the best for food, location and service. read more
