Experience was so bad we never actually made it in the door…read more I will add the story, but suffice it to say I have never met a business owner so willing to offend a customer base in his local neighborhood. Considering this business should be peddling Joy, this guy can chase customers away faster than: A politician changes their mind! Trump can piss off a Democrat! Rita's Slogan: "Ice+Custard=Happiness" This Rita's owners slogan: "Me+Customers = wait, where did my customers go?" If "poor customer service" were an action movie, this guy is their Arnold Schwarzenegger. Imagine owning an Ice shop and chasing away the family dinner guests from next door so they don't buy your desert. I bet they teach that in business school!!! I don't condemn Rita's as a whole, and I am sure the young folks that work here are delightful (Probably miserable working for that dude). So if you are reading this - don't hate the business, but certainly the owner is worthy. The story: There is a new restaurant next door that we were going to for dinner, planning to get Ices for desert. Unfortunately we made the mistake of sitting down near here when there was no one there or waiting for a seat. At which point the presumable owner of this establishment rudely asked us to leave as these particular seats were only for his customer. He could have easily asked nicely, and we would have come buy after dinner and bought ices. But he was flat out rude about it. Nicely we said nothing, got up walked to the other area where bunches of people were sitting on benches waiting for their tables. When some got up and left, we sat down. BIG mistake according to this guy. He came out yelling. Not at any of the other people, just my family because "He already told us to leave." Mind you - this is an unmarked bench in a public easement between 2 businesses - photo in the review. 1/2 a dozen other people around us are staring and shaking their heads at the guy, obviously no longer planning to buy anything there and apparently this is a nightly occurrence! For us - I will not frequent this establishment if it were the last place on earth to sell Ice.

In Mrs. K's personal ranking of frozen custard establishments, Rita's has consistently held the top…read morespot, ahead of both national chains and a handful of local favorites. But today, something extraordinary happened. The custard was not just good. It was the best Rita's custard she has ever had. That is no small compliment coming from someone with such a well-established custard hierarchy. We ordered the chocolate, no toppings, in a waffle cone, which she savored slowly over the course of about 20 minutes. I was granted a tiny taste, and even that fleeting sample was enough to confirm her verdict. Between delighted murmurs of "mmm" and enthusiastic declarations of "yummy," it was clear this was a standout experience. The texture was the smoothest we have encountered, and the chocolate flavor was deeper and richer than any before. Without hesitation, we would both give it a full five stars. The shop itself is modest but welcoming. There are a couple of benches out front and a few tables inside, offering a little space to linger. Still, I imagine that on a warm summer evening, the place would be bustling with families, couples, and custard devotees all eager for their turn. If today was any indication, they are in for a real treat. [Round number review 1400 of 2025 - 1344 in South Carolina - 24952 overall]

We tried for several days and finally got a 9:00 reservation. The restaurant is cozy with about 15 tables and a bar located on the side of the dining room. It also has some counter seats for 8-10 guests. The lighting is very low, great for a romantic vibe, a little hard to read the menu. The menu is curated seasonally and daily specials are on a blackboard. The specials go FAST, as do some of the popular dishes. When we arrived ALL of the special, except for the dessert offering, were sold out and there was only one of the Wagu bavette steak left. We were hoping to try some of the special but we did order several menu items. We started with the Charred Sourdough and Escargots, which were amazing and complimented each other perfectly. Not a drip of garlic, butter, herb sauce was left on the plate. Next was a Beet and Celery Salad, fresh, light and tangy vinegarette. Along with that was the Shrimp Agnolotti and the Pappardelle with tangy ragu. All the food was delicious and the service was first class! Highly recommend if you can get a reservation.
