My wife and I heard good things about this company, so our plan to buy a hot tub began here. The salesman who helped us was very knowledgeable about the different hot tubs, permits required and how a hot tub can be placed where we wanted it (among other things). I liked that there was no pressure to quickly buy. This store had many beautiful hot tubs on display, and I wanted to get one ASAP, but there were things to do before hand: like measuring my space, hiring an electrician and talking to a "crane guy" about placing the hot tub. Went to check some patio furniture, quite a big shop to personally check furniture, hot tubs etc. we were in shop for almost 30mins and not a single person bothered to help us with pricing and questions we had. Prices were a bit steep, floor models are priced lower, as per their condition. I would not be going back, and would not recommend this place. read more

Wildly huge showroom. Probably one of, if not the biggest in all of New Jersey for patio furniture. If you want to actually see and sit in patio furniture before purchasing things online this is a great chance to do it. We came in for Polywood. There is an entire showroom that's solely dedicated to Polywood. They match prices from their website, and charge $189 flat for white glove delivery and install. For all of the items that we purchased this would have been around an extra $1,000 on the Polywood website, so it was absolutely worth it to do this from Pelican. Staff is friendly and helpful - they will work really closely with you to figure out exactly what you need. This is a big purchase, so we spent a bunch of time looking at all different options, colors, fabrics, etc. Unfortunately our patio furniture will take weeks to arrive, so this was just about the buying experience. I have come here multiples times and in the summer, I mainly purchase hot tub chemicals and leave. No amazing or horrible service that warranted a review. However, my recent experience was pretty frustrating. Recently, I entered with the intention of having a ski boot fitting. The associate approached and I told him I wanted to buy a new pair of boots and asked if they did ski boot fitting and custom liners. He confirmed they do, and he showed me a boot on display. Then, he promptly told me the price of the fitting, boot, and liners. Instead of asking about my current boots, concerns, etc. (or even just showing me to the boot fitter), he was quick to assume my ability level, pointed towards their limited selection of womens ski boots, and walked away. I've been skiing since I was a child and never have I walked into a shop and had an associate make assumptions and walk away without assisting or directing. I walked out regretful I walked in and drove to Ski Barn in Wayne that had a much larger selection and more welcoming staff. The few associates at the desk are pleasant but the wandering associates in the ski shop area are not very helpful or knowledgable. read more

I heard it was next to impossible to buy a spa because the pandemic increased demand so much manufacturers couldn't keep up. On a whim I called Pelican. They weren't my first choice because they're a bit of a drive but my local place said 8-12 months wait. I spoke with Scott in the spa department. After asking about my needs he proceeded to text me a few pictures and made a couple of suggestions. He wasn't working on my only day off so he put me in touch with someone else who could help me. After a few days and a few thousand questions I plunked down $500 deposit on an incoming tub. Scott said 8-10 weeks, it was here in 4. Scott and the entire spa sales department is outstanding. They're extremely patient and can answer any and all questions even from a pain in the ass like me. Delivery team was also prompt, polite and very neat. Same with Mike in service. The person on the phone immediately said they had it but it sounded like they were just trying to get me in the store. I asked multiple times just for clarification. The person on the phone put me on hold at one point to "check" and make sure they had it. They confirmed they do have it. I drove over a half hour to the store to find out they do not have it. The salesperson said "are you sure you called this location". I said I was sure and even double checked the number to make sure. I explained how I had my suspicions with the person on the phone and I drove over a half hour to get there. They said sorry and that was it. Needless to say I am more than frustrated as I wasted over an hour of my Saturday because of Pelican's dishonest sales tactics. I do not recommend giving this store any business. read more

This was a pretty bad experience . My husband and I walked in to look at hot tubs. The receptionist never even looked up we were there for several minutes before I had to ask for some assistance . The salesperson came out and was showing us a small tub that was on clearance. He kept trying to push us to get this one off the floor and didn't really show us any other tubs, though I expressed my concerns about the Jets and being able to have a saltwater system. After not really liking the way we were treated we thanked him and left and went to healthmate in Denville where we were greeted as soon as we walked in the door very friendly staff stayed with us for about 30 minutes answering all our questions and explaining the pros of multiple tubs and we are now the proud owners of a seven-person saltwater Hot Springs read more

I would recommend huge caution when purchasing anything of value from this outfit. They delivered a hot tub that was partially not functioning from day 1. i would have had to pay them to come and fix the issue due to where i had placed the unit and instead agreed to live with the non functional element (the lighting) in return for service credits in the future. When it came time to get service in the unit I was provided very inefficient hourly service that took 4 visits to resolve the issue and then discounted only a small amount off of the very high hourly service rates. Would recommend finding a reseller with a better commitment to quality and service. read more

We stopped by Pelican Shops on May 5 to look at the Polywood furniture and Weber grills without intending to purchase anything that day. We were met by Jeannette and she spent a siginficant amoutn of time with us, even though she knew we were not intending to purchase anything that day. They happended to be running a sale and we saw a Polywood Riveria outdoor set that was really comfortable. We ended up buying that set, 4 Polywood Adironack chairs and two side tables and a Weber grill. The store staff was extremely helpful and post-sale service was great, as was the delivery, which they scheduled when it was convenient for us and not just them, which was on a Saturday. Now, I'm not usually one to complain, or even write up a review, but this experience was especially poor and warranted one. Customer service is just not it. Quality of products are subpar, but nothing extraordinarily bad. Went to get a rental for a family member, one who is a beginner and has not skiied for years. Upon getting there, employees were all laid back and on their phones, though one did notice me and tell me to fill out a form. However when trying on the boots, my family member was clearly struggling to get the boot on, and unsure of how it should fit. Employee stood there staring blankly, even after I asked if he could show her how to properly fit the boots on. Aside from this, the overall feel and customer service just felt lacking and careless. After a couple more bumps, I decided to ask to speak to a supervisor. He went to talk to a few people, and came back with someone else. There was no real indication of whether this was the real supervisor or not, as he had seemed to be laughing around and seemingly grabbed a random coworker, but nevertheless, I voiced my concerns. I was met with more seemingly careless responses, but decided not to bother anymore. I took the rentals, paid for them and left. Would definitely recommend ski barn over this, they seemed to have much friendlier employees. read more

About two weeks later we had an issue with it and he went above and beyond to resolve it to our total satisfaction. Made the 40 minute trip to pelican to rent skis for my son for the season. They took care of us relatively quickly but I guess that was the problem. We got home, took the equipment out of the trunk and when I placed the ski poles against the wall to store them, THEY WERE DIFFERENT SIZES. No idea how those boneheads gave us poles where one is 2" shorter than the other. I guess I'll have to make the 80 minute round trip after work this week which in rush hour will probably be 2 hours round trip because, of course, they close at 6pm so driving out there at 6 or 7pm isn't possible. I doubt I'll be compensated for the time lost though I certainly should be. On the positive side their boot fitters and selection is top notch. If you need boots, ask for Mike O. read more

Purchased a high end grill and the price included assembly by Pelican. On same day the grill was delivered we tried the natural gas ignitor and it did not work. Called the manager who sold us the grill and he said he would get back to me. This was 10 days ago. I have called him several times and he has never taken the initiative to reach out to me nor did he seem interested in resolving the issue with the ignitor. Approximately 1 year ago I bought a Polywood Lakeside DIning set from Pelican Sports Center in Morris Plains. Polywood is advertised as being durable and able to be left outdoors all year long. When I took a look at it last week I saw the whole set has deep gauges in it. It must be attractive to some type of animal. Note I live in a very suburban (not rural) part of Jersey. Attached are some representative pics.I called Pelican and asked for store credit since a big part of their sales pitch ws that I wouldn't have to drag it in and store the furniture indoors for the winter. They refused to offer store credit and said, they would initiate a claim but didn't expect Polywood would cover it and added "If the claim is denied and we went the route of ordering replacement pieces, that would be at your cost." I want credit towards a set made of different material not polywood which seems to attract animals. SO Disappointed in Pelican Sports Center. read more

This review is for the ski shop. Twice I've come here to get skis tuned and both times I called before driving there to make sure they were ready for pick up and both times they told me they were ready, only to find that they had not touched the skis since I dropped them off. The first time, I called before going to pick up the skis and was told they "should" be ready without them physically checking or offering to check. I took their word for it and drove to pick them up only to find neither pair of skis were touched and they would only offer me store credit to take them back. We had plans to ski the next day, so we ended up having to go without a sorely needed tune. The second time, I called two days after the skis were supposed to be ready. They asked when they were supposed to be ready and I said two days ago. They said "then they're ready." This time I knew to make them check. They told me one pair was ready, but they couldn't find the other at the moment. Figuring if one pair was done, the other should be too. Wrong again. After arriving , I had to wait about 15 minutes for them to look for the second pair of skis that they didn't bother to find after I called, they asked what the skis look like. I point to a pair on the receiving rack with another customers paperwork on it. Turns out those were our skis and they hadn't touched them. To their credit, they did tune them while I waited and offered me a coupon for a free stone grind (after I asked for compensation), but I hardly consider that enough to make up for dealing with this again and almost losing the skis. Bottom line, this place is completely disorganized and I would not trust them with any of my gear. If you are forced to come here, definitely do not depend on anything being ready on time. I will not be returning and I can't recommend this shop to anyone. read more

Today was not great day. I have been going to Pelican to shop for my gear for many years now. My brother and I were shopping for snowboarding jackets and pants. When one of the sales associate approach my brother and ask if the jacket that he was wearing belong to the store since she had found an empty hanger on her hand. My brother was wearing that jacket when we entered the store. We even stop by to say hello to Carlos (sales associate) who has help me many years help me purchase my skis and snowboard. My brother was so offended that he did want to purchase anything. Even at the register when he purchase my snowboarding pants as a Christmas gift one of the employees approaches and made comment "just confirming" what is that supposed to mean? Living in San Diego, there are essentially no ski shops around at all. Skis and bindings I can order online... But I firmly believe you should always try on boots. While visiting my family back here in Jersey, I checked out Pelican in search of some new boots for me and a new ski jacket for my wife. She got a great jacket, and I got the absolute best service on my ski boot purchase. Mike Oberst was great. He listened to what I was looking for, took more measurements than any shop ever has for me, and then started bringing up pair after pair after pair of boots, having me put one of each on to compare until I could narrow it down to the right boot. I'm now the proud owner of a new set of Atomic Hawx Prime 110s, and if they had a set of Dynastar Twisters, I'd have bought those too. My husband got me a tune-up for my snowboard as a gift. I've been snowboarding for about eight years; I love it, I get a season pass every season, and I will be the first to admit I'm no expert. I purchased my snowboard from Pelican; any equipment I've ever purchased has been from there as well. When I ask for a small service to be provided, I don't expect too much in return, but it would have been nice to see / feel a difference in my board. I would have appreciated if after spending so much money in their store, that the quality of service they provide be at the very least noticeable. If you can find another company to give your business to, I would suggest going there. Pelican Shops won't hurt you, and they'll likely get the job done, but at the bare minimum and with mediocre service. read more

I purchased a swim spa & electric lift. It was installed early June 2020. After many attempts & many visits it was agreed that if Pelican did not get it operational they would take it back. Once again they promised to be here and make kit right. I get a phone call and of course once again a broken promise. I told them to come get it they refuse they basically said tough luck. So here a $45,000 of trash sits in my back yard. I have called to speak to the manager several times & never once received a call back. This game of waiting for parts has been going on for 3 months. Good selection of ski equipment but store is poorly managed. My experience today began with a phone call to the store asking if they could do a quick tune up for a pair of skis. They transferred me to the shop that said they could have them done by 7pm if I headed straight there. I did, and upon arrival a nice young person checked with the shop and was told they could not do a tune up today. I decided to appeal to the rental counter based on my prior phone call and was greeted by an older man that informed that they couldn't do it and added 'it's 5 days right?'. I don't know your equipment tune up turn around policy, that is why I called prior to driving over. I regretted not getting his name as not everyone there has a lack of respect for their client's loyalty and time. Not my first bad experience there but it will be my last. I live 15 minutes away but will drive twice the distance to avoid rude staff. REI and Ski Barn are better local options. read more

Terrible customer service. Hot tub was supposed to arrive first week of December. It is now Jan 8 and after sending the delivery guys to two incorrect addresses today (causing a 4 hr delay), they didn't arrive with enough guys to lift hot tub. So I have fully paid for a hot tub, which is sitting in my backyard and unable to connect to electrical. If I could do this over again, I would have paid more attention to similar reviews of bad service and I would have taken my business elsewhere! My girlfriend and I recently moved to Morris Plains, N.J. and came into your showroom for the first time earlier this month. We were in the process of building our deck and we were very excited to get patio furniture. When we arrived, we were met by "Missy" our salesperson. I've never received such a high level of customer service. Not only did she walk us around the showroom to understand our expectations, she then sat down with us and drew a diagram based on the specs we provided for our deck. She provided multiple options from a table with chairs, a couch and table, etc. I was blown away with the amazing, dedicated service we received. She totally exceeded our expectations. When we went back to the store last week, we ordered the patio set and "Missy" couldn't be nicer. I called "Missy" earlier that day to tell her we were coming in, and she was ready to help us as soon as we arrived. The delivery came today and the delivery team was amazing too. They showed up on time and we were able to track the exact time of the delivery. The company delivers themselves and doesn't outsource to another company. That solidifies the excellent experience from shopping at Pelican. We are actually heading back to the store today to buy more stuff as we still have room for another chair and ottoman on our deck.
