Pelican Resort has a lot of potential, but overall it feels pretty dated. The biggest downside was the cleanliness of the poolside bathrooms they definitely need more attention. The elevators were also a bit sketchy, with no lights or indicators to show where they are. There are signs saying upgrades are in progress, so hopefully that improves soon. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and pleasant, which made the experience better. The resort has three pools, but I really wish there was an adults-only area to relax without the noise. Beach access is a great perk, and the location is solid, but the resort could use some updates to match its surroundings. The entire experience was a disaster from the moment we checked in, 2 out of the 4 elevators were out of service which resulted in long wait times and people jamming into the elevators so they don't have to wait any longer. Once we got to the room it was disgusting! The kitchen chairs were filthy (see pictures - these are not camouflage chairs, they're stains) the bedroom rug was dirty and had an odor. After one night I couldn't stay any longer, went down to the front desk and asked for the manager, not available. Spoke to an assistant, was told he would contact me, that was 5 days ago and numerous calls/voice mails, no call back! Called again, spoke to assistant, again, I was told they'd get back to me after offering me a 2 night voucher, really? Why would I want to stay here again? the facility is in need of a complete upgrade! While the view from the 19th floor was beautiful it didn't make up for the fact that this condo was old, dated, dirty and to top it off I rented directly from Pelican Beach management since their brochure prides itself on customer satisfaction! So the facility is fantastic, the location is fantastic. We really like the beach and the pool where they're lacking: their checkin. Not enough carts or organization to get your luggage and a week worth of stuff up to your condo. Their front desk staff is very friendly, but their security staff are the rudest nastiest people that I've ever dealt with. I am middle-aged, articulate, not a drinker, I don't have young kids running around, and they treated me so poorly with every interaction. I don't feel I have a sense of entitlement but if you're talking to someone, you should not talk down to and be treated like a prisoner is treated by a prison guard . I can't explain it better but it just left really bad taste in my mouth. An example would be; I pulled up to the front door waiting on my mother-in-law, who is in a wheelchair, to get off the elevator and come across the lobby and the guard came up yelling at me, I wasn't blocking anything. I was way out of the way there was almost 2 car widths the pass me, I got rousted and told to move. I tried to explain that I had a handicap person on their way out and would be entering the car and they told me it didn't matter. Just overall poor customer service. Poor judgment. read more

No question, this condo unit (#1607) and location is great! 5 stars! I booked through vrbo and the host was very nice and responsive and even checked in on me during my stay. And helped make a couple of local spot suggestions. The condo unit is super cute, liked the open layout, it was clean inside, it has a great view of the Gulf and loved hearing the waves all the way up on the 16th floor like they were right outside my door. It was easy access to everything. But the building and property itself I give this place 2-3 stars at best.... The location and amenities are great, but the property and elevator cleanliness are not. This is no reflection on the owner/host for the specific unit I stayed in, but the building entry from the front and back and inside the elevators were never clean. There was trash and dirt/debris inside the elevators every time I went in one, there was dirt and trash at the lobby and entry way as well as spilled food outside the front automatic entry doors in the driveway for at least 2 days (it was there when I left), which you right walk by on your way in and out to the parking garage. However, they did do a fairly good job keeping the floors dry from the pools, beach, etc. as there is a lot of wet foot traffic and each and every afternoon they had the air dryers on! The pool, hottub, direct beach access, sun, wind, waves.... there was a tiki bar, it's only open until 7 and it closed early one day due to weather but did not reopen when the weather was totally cleared - I came back from my day's excursions early just to hang out by the tiki bar that day. :( Overall, I would stay here again just because of the direct contact/rental with the condo unit's owner... Check In was a breeze. They had our room ready and all of our paperwork in an envelope. They placed our arm bands, gave us parking pass and we were on our way. They do have a spot where you can park and unload your luggage. You can use their luggage carts. Just remember to be courteous and return them in a timely manner. We were in room 1614. It was a two bedroom, two full baths. The master bedroom overlooks the ocean and has a king size bed. The second bedroom has two twins. The living room also has a sofa that can turn into a queen size bed. We had no problems sleeping soundly on the beds. The bathrooms were clean. Toiletries included bar soap, shampoo and lotion. The kitchen: fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils. You do have to bring coffee maker filters and dish soap. They even had a blender. The balcony was big. It had a great view of the ocean. You can partially see your neighbors balcony, but you still get enough privacy The pool: a decent size. Not overrun as I would have expected on Fourth of July day and weekend. They have one indoor and one outdoor one. The indoor seemed to always be empty. The gym: typical hotel gym. Treadmills, elliptical and weights available. Parking was easy and always available. First of all I have never written a negative review but our experience with this resorts management was infuriating. We stayed 5 nights at the Pelican Beach Resort. The room was pretty clean, a bit outdated but the view was amazing. There was construction noise, which is understandable and we dealt with it during our stay without complaint. However on our last day we were waiting for our ride to the airport and had paint dumped all over us. While our ride waited for us I went in to notify management what had happened only to be told that we had already checked out and there was nothing they could do for us. There was literally paint all over my hair as well as my daughters and on our clothing and luggage. I have filed a claim with the HOA board. The boys enjoyed the heated pool and while we rented an umbrella and some chairs for $35 a day and hit the beach. And you can purchase tropical drinks from a local cabana. What's especially nice about this resort is that it is secured 24 hours a day and provides the visiting party with a $25 gift card to the pool side cafe for food or drink. Roaches! We had German roaches in our condo. I told the front desk the first morning we were there and they said they would spray while we were out. I do believe the unit has a nest or infestation because they were all in the kitchen and despite being "sprayed" they kept coming out. From the sink, the garbage disposal, on the counters, floor, one was stuck inside the clock on the stovetop. It made for a very uncomfortable stay since we paid so much money to stay there. No where on their website is it advertised that there would be no space for your personal belongings except the first 20' from the dunes. The entire square owned by the resort is littered with 5 row deep third party vender chair services. For an additional $45-$50 a day, you can enjoy this vendor service on top of the already high price for the resort. But, no guarantee you will have an ocean view. For the week I was here, almost half of the chairs littering this section stayed empty the entire day. If your children wanted to play in the water, you have a LIMITED time to stand near the waters edge to watch them before being asked to vacate. How is this family friendly? How is this GUEST friendly? What little we did see of the ocean and beach from our balcony, it was beautiful. We vacation often in Ft. Walton beach down the road, but this time we thought we'd try something different. Overall we're glad we did. We booked through VRBO and got a personally owned condo. It's very nicely appointed, had everything we needed and then some. Condo was clean and felt like home. Also Wifi was best we've had any resort we've ever travelled to. For my kids that's a definite plus. Pools are nice and heated. Hot tubs are very nice as well. Security is strict, they make you wear wrist bands everywhere and you're not allowed to remove them. This place also has a tiki hut with food and frozen drinks. Pretty unique to Destin. Beach is the worst part about the place. It's run by a company that rents out chairs and umbrellas. They have 5 long rows all across the beach. If you want to bring your own chair etc, you have to be behind the rows of bought chairs. Want a front row seat, too bad, you had to book that months ago. Also this service is extremely expensive. $175 for a week, or $35 for a day. Overall, I'd stay here again, but wish they'd do something about the beach service. It's a bit ridiculous. read more

Our unit is awesome, but the front desk is so rude. I try to give people grace, but this place needs an honest review. Don't bother going to them with any questions or needs. Once we finally get him authenticated, he barges in with no apology, obviously ticked at us. He must not have daughters or a wife he cares about. He leaves all angry and rudely, still with no apology for the scare or interruption to our night. He was acting like a complete jerk...just like the front desk personnel has been, as well. Imagine paying thousands of dollars to stay at a resort... having to go floor to floor to do laundry because they have so many broken machines. they have a no smoking policy on the entire premises but yet people smoke cigarettes and weed on their balconies all day. i've yet to enjoy a sunrise or a sunset without dealing with smoke. my kids have been pointing it out all week. marijuana alone is supposed to be immediate removal from the resort... but yet they're writing people up for hanging towels to dry on the balcony. makes zero sense. they also let people swim in full outfits that they would wear on a regular basis and claim they can't make people wear swim attire because it's against their religion. mind blowing honestly. as strict as this place seems, don't worry there really aren't any rules that they make people follow.. except the towels on the balcony part. apparently that's their biggest concern. read more

They allow you to pay $70 to get an umbrella 60 ft from the water where the music is so loud you can't see your kids or enjoy the ocean. The beach chair rental worker said if we gave him $100 cash on top of the chair rental he would put us up front. To make it worse during a pandemic they've set up six rows of umbrellas and chairs that funnel everyone past each other making social distancing completely impractical. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon. First thing we realized was the layout of the rooms. The bedroom is at the front with a window out to the hallway (usually bedrooms are at the back of the unit). The walls here are also pretty thin because we could hear everything going on outside, next door, and upstairs. We paid over $2,000 for a 5 day stay so we expected better. Each unit is also owned by a separate owner so I can't punish the resort for the actual room, but all rooms are laid out the exact same way and having several different owners throughout makes for a lot of confusion. We stayed in unit 1213 near the end of the summer and can say it's one of the best units at Pelican Beach! The place was completely remodeled with a brand new modern kitchen, bathrooms, big screen TV's and furniture. There are some old pictures online which we were expecting to the unit to look like so to say we were pleasantly surprised when we walked in is an understatement. We even slept so well that we checked to see what kind of mattress it was and couldn't believe they put Purple mattresses in both bedrooms! Thank you!!! This was the best sleep we've had staying at any resort. Location cannot be beat, so close to everything and very convenient. The view is spectacular and this is definitely one of the best beaches in the states. The downside is that the beach gets crowded and you will have to reserve chairs way in advance or bring your own and sit behind the rows of chairs designated by the resort. If you go out later in the afternoon it's a lot better so that's what we ended up doing most days. I read other reviewers complain about their unit being outdated and so if you go back I highly recommend UNIT 1213. read more

Booked our unit through Airbnb. The unit itself was amazing. This is no reflection of the unit. Unit was 10/10 amazing. The property however was absolutely ridiculous. Who wants to wear wristbands the entire stay? Mainly the beach service was disappointing. The Beach Boys had attitudes. When we were asked to take our tent down, we did without hesitation. When my husband asked to get the umbrella from the room and if that would be alright to put up, the boy had attitude in his response "my paper says no tents. It says nothing about umbrellas". A simple yes or no would've sufficed asshole. The tiki bar service wasn't good either. The drinks were good but why have a server go around on the beach if she's only going to come around twice. I asked to see a menu, she comes back an hour later to take our order... didn't bring a menu. Then never came back at all! First: you cannot bring you own chairs and umbrellas onto the beach - unless you want to sit behind four rows of blue chairs and not see the water. You cannot go the side of the rows as you are then trespassing. This, of course, costs you extra money. Second: the furniture in the rooms is very dated and worn down. We stayed in the Dolphin building in November. We are senior citizens who like to walk. PROs: You are right on the beach. You walk out the back door past the pool and you have miles of white sand beach great for walking in both directions. Convenient to grocery, target and restaurants. Space was perfect for the 2 of us. The bunk beds and fold out couch would work for children. King bed. The patio faces the ocean CONs This is a older building. The bathrooms were especially outdated but everything was functional and appeared clean. Almost all services were discontinued Oct 31st. Be sure to check. The website and signage can be misleading. The pool was open(and nice). But they didn't even have pool towels. There is a reception desk. We booked direct through the resort. We emailed a couple of questions to see what the condo was stocked with so we knew what to pack. They responded but didn't answer the question. We may explore staying here again but we would probably try booking through Airbnb so we could be in direct communication with the owner. read more

For the last 3 or 4 years, my family has been booking here every labor day weekend. I absolutely love the stay, there aren't any key card hassles. They give you a door code to access. Fully equipped kitchen, always a pull out couch in the living room for an extra bed. The view of the beach from the balcony is awesome. They have 3 pools, and quick access to the beach. My cousins and I normally go back and forth. The front desk has an electronic inflator so you don't have to blow up your floaties manually. They've always given us a $25 gift card for staying with them which we use in the gift shop for stuff we might need during the trip. The resort is located close to all the souvenir shops and we never had a problem with the staff here. Everything is always clean, they bedrooms always supply extra blankets and sheets. Some of the condos have their own washer and dryer and if not there's usually one around the corner. On the beach, they have umbrellas and chairs you can rent and rinse off stations as you're walking back to the resort. They have a little bar area where you can buy drinks. A hot tub and decent sized pools, the gym has a steam room and it's right across from the arcade and the gift shop. Its just a great resort to stay at, they have everything you need. I always have a blast here and when we normally plan the next trip as soon as we leave. read more

It was confusing checking in we had to go somewhere else since we booked through them, I kind of think if we're staying there we should be able to check in there but it wasn't a big deal. Where do I start. Not a go place to stay. It's the second largest "resort"... in Destin. Be ready for some Looong evaluator rides. 20 floors. THE GOOD: you're at the beach... AND THATS IT! The traffic...ugh It is impossible to exit the property. There is no traffic light and you sit there for awhile trying to find a small crack to dart into. I get thats not really their fault but if your staying here it's annoying. Bad location as it's related proximity of main highway. The UGLY: RATS RATS RATS.... Rats in the breeze ways eating peoples Door dash food. Which mind you that sat there for a day. We had to call them to come get it. Dead rats at the trash chutes. Just a mess! Beach access is horrible. Each resort has a private beach area that you can not cross. Security guard enforced it, You have to sit in your area. Problem is there are 3 rows, of rental chairs I front of you. You are at least 20 yards from the shore. You can rent the chairs $35 per day. They set them up from 7am-5pm. This is horrible. They don't charge you to get in the water but to sit by it. We tried to rent a chair , but we were told they were all booked until the next month. So apparently you need to call in advance to do so. Your employees should at least be polite and not rude. The guys who work on the beach are very rude. There was no wind today, but it was raining and they kept us under closed umbrellas, I tried to open one and hide from the rain, but an employee swooped in and slammed the umbrella in front of my eyes without explanation or apology. You can not do it this way ! I told him he was rude, but he didn't care about my comment. Please pay attention to this! Overall good experience. Condos are spacious and clean. Food from the attached cafe was wonderful. Only bad experience was from the Tiki Hut. I wanted to use a free drink voucher we had gotten from a trip there earlier in the year with an expiration date that was still a few months out and they would not honor it. My husband came to Destin for a stay from Christmas to New Years. I can see where this could be a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in 1506, our view of the water was amazing, we could see the sunrise and the sunset from our balcony. Totally loved the balcony! The condo itself is a great layout for a couple. However, the condo needs some TLC. It's outdated, it's dirty, cleaning service leaves a lot to be desired. We reported a leak in the utility closet on our first night that had been leaking for a long time. . The first couple hours were spent cleaning, the main bath shower is disgusting, dirty and a horrible shower head. The hair dryer in the main bath falls off the wall when touched. The condo is noisy, we heard every step, toy drop and furniture moved in the unit above. The balcony has bird droppings down the wall and on the furniture. Don't read into previous bad/1-star reviews regarding umbrella service, all of these people are too lazy to bring their own or too ignorant to read the giant signs saying you can't put your stupid umbrella right on the water. Yes this is a resort, so their portion of the beach is under their control and yes they put out their chairs and umbrellas for rent. You still have a vast portion of sand to place your own umbrellas, chairs, blankets, etc. You can even take your chairs up in front of the resort's chairs and place them directly in the water, don't see any issues here. I've read 20+ negative reviews complaining about beach service, it's a condo/resort, go rent elsewhere if you want freedom you pansies. Overall, good condo experience, our unit was great the cafe and amenities provided by the building were ideal for a quick drink/meal. The main pool is large and can accommodate a significant number of people and has plenty of beach chairs for seating/sunbathing. The other pool is smaller but has an indoor portion. Fitness center is small but does provide a few weight machines and free weights. The building is in the heart of Destin so traffic is heavy nearby, but you're also close to about everything you'd need: market/pharmacy/shopping/dining. Our unit is beautiful and the condo owners amazing, however, the resort's umbrella beach service is ridiculous. Umbrellas in rows 4-5 deep with little access to the water and no visual of water. You can't take your own chairs and umbrella and set up because they claim the beach early. They have a sign that states personal umbrellas may be placed behind a certain point. This is against Okaloosa County ordinance which states 20 feet to the high tide line is public domain. So if I want to get up at 3am, I can place my umbrella in front of your beach service's umbrellas. But who wants to do that? Make it stop or loose business. read more

This resort had the amenities that I wanted - directly on the beach, a balcony facing the water, a functional kitchen, and convenient to many restaurants. We didn't spend much time in the room itself but when we did, we found the towel rack in the bathroom fell with barely a touch, the lamp on the bedside table fell apart when you pulled the string, and the iron leaked water. Basically, the condo is old and not as well maintained as it could be. The front desk is helpful, parking is plentiful and nearby, and the amenities included gift cards to the tiki bar and cafe. We laid on the beach on towels instead of the expensive beach chairs so were in front, closer to the water. The beach and water are clean and we enjoyed it. We were able to see marine life from our balcony, including dolphins and sting rays. Just stunning! read more
