We were lucky enough to come here to help celebrate the wedding of a very good friend of ours. The valet was great and I loved that they have a ramp at the entrance for wheelchairs and strollers. The place is lovely. Their ceremony was beautiful with a gorgeous backdrop on the outside patio, overlooking the immaculate golf grounds. After the ceremony we enjoyed cocktail hour and their reception both inside and outside which I think was a great idea. The weather was perfect at the end of June so we were comfortable. The food was really good at the cocktail hour. Unfortunately, for the sit down dinner our table and other tables waited for what seemed like, forever, for our mains and everyone's steak was the wrong temperature. It was like chewing on a rubber toy but rather than complain, we just ate because no one wanted to wait for a do-over. On the upside, their cake was awesome and the bartenders were great. I would look forward to attending an event here in the future.

Came here for an event and the employees were pleasant. The set up was beautiful and the food was pretty good as well. I'm not sure why there are so many low reviews, although I did not golf. They made sure to take care of everyone at the event.

Unless you're looking to play in a mosquitoes nest for 4 hours, don't even think about playing here. I don't mind a few big bites here and there but I woke up the next morning with my ankles swollen like softballs and my entire body covered in bites. The course itself probably isn't that bad but these condition make it unbareable.

I was never blessed with natural ability for golf, but I do love the sport. Although I have played here about 5 times, I will enlighten you about my most memorable round at Split Rock this past summer. I used nycteetimes.com and reserved a morning tee time. Upon arrival, I paid a $2 parking fee and met my 3 companions. I walked to clubhouse and checked in. The signin and payment part doesn't happen until they call your name on the PA system. The Split Rock course was backed up at least a 1/2 hour. At hole #1, after we teed off, light rain poured, but we played through it. At #5, there was slight backup, but we finished the hole. It poured again. This time it was heavy, so we waited an hour under trees. The foursome behind us did the same. We continued playing and realized many golfers had left. The greens were soaked. Putting was terrible. By this my boxers and socks were wet. Imagine the discomfort, yet we decided to continue. At #8, we started the hole, and it poured again. Now my colleagues were feeling depressed. We already passed 5 holes so we did not qualify for a raincheck for our greens fees. We decided to forget it and head home. As we passed #9, we saw the snack bar so we stopped for a hot dog and beer. We remained quiet and yet we had the look of disgust on our faces. What a waste of money. The weather miraculously cleared up, so we drove back to hole #8 and played it through. By hole #11, the sun came out and stayed out. My undergarments were still wet, but the game continued. A lot of golfers left at the first sight of inclement weather (maybe they had plans and only scheduled a 4-5 hour window to play golf). We were there for a while. Yes 7 hours. I understand, we paid with our valuable time, but this was the strangest yet most memorable golf experience to date. My highlights for me were 3 bogeys in the back nine. You can imagine the double and trip bogeys, along with my double par holes. The Good: + Nice golf course in the Bronx (see photos), part of the largest park in NYC (yes, Pelham Bay Park is larger than Central Park) + Split Rock is the better of the two courses, but Pelham is wider. + (for round plus cart) $70 for non-residents, $64 for residents (get the ny golfers club card; it's kind of like a county card, but it doesnt have your photo) + There is a pitching and chipping area where I can practice for free. + At the snack bar (you encounter it at Split Rock holes #1 and #9), there is a special where if you buy 5 of the same beer, you get the 6th free. The Bad: - Not all of the yardage signs are up (missing) - Live game may be wandering on the course, ie on the green. - No driving range. - Snack bar and cart girl accept cash only. The Ugly: -- Finding droppings on the green. Eek. -- Delays will back you up, thanks to walkers. People lose their golf balls and take forever to move on. To the sh-tty golfers, bring a lot of balls and maintain pace with the players ahead. I do. Overall it is a must see/to do in Pelham Bay park/the Bronx. People are totally right with the reviews, with the long wait time. We had to wait more than 40 minutes before we started, and some group of guys tried to cut us off on the first hole. That was a mess there. There's only a few things I liked about this course. 1. The inside staff was nice 2. The clubs were super nice rentals brand new ones. I've rented constantly and these were the nicest. 3. The golf clubs were prettier. The fairway wasn't that meh, a lot of patches and beer bottles galore. Didn't people hear about throwing away garbage? And so many twigs! Other than that, mehh. We kept waiting for people ahead of us, and some guy comes up to my group and starts flipping out at us, says we're taking too long, while the idiot didn't realize we were waiting for the group in front of us, and so many people kept asking us to play through, NO BITCH WAIT YOUR TURN, you act like your a pro while your ball goes into the rough and goes missing for a while. And the girl who drives the cart around with food, please have a better selection, this golf course isn't that poor, they can afford more than snickers and doritos. And COFFEE!! No coffee!! wth!!

Fairways have so much stagnant water. Several bunkers are just as bad.
    rajeev k.

Course in awful shape. Drainage is broken so water stagnates everywhere, resulting in awful insect bites. Several bunkers and fairways suffer from this. See example photo. Def not worth the $. Two stars since the employees at the front desk and Grill are great and do their best.

So, this one was a real doozy of a visit. The drinks were fair, with our order being a Goose Island…read moreIPA, Long Island iced tea, and a pomegranate martini. The service and food, on the other hand, were quite a mixed bag. We ordered a margherita pizza, pancake tacos, steak and eggs, and French toast with a side of sausage--the pizza, at least, was good. However, the "French toast" was more like an anemic panini press trying to pass as French toast. The steak and eggs comprised of a fairly well-cooked (that is, it was the right temperature) yet underseasoned steak of a relatively dubious cut, underseasoned home fries, and eggs done wrong (sunny side instead of over easy). The lattermost was the start of the problem, as I was willing to give it a shot, but found the texture off-putting. In light of this, I brought the problem to our server Adalia, who brought it to her manager Elvia. Thankfully I had someone else with me to tell me what happened: Elvia came over without addressing me on their error, silently took a look at my plate and instructed Adalia to have the kitchen put the eggs back on the fire. She takes my plate to extract the eggs, and brings them back (unsurprisingly) completely overdone, first in Elvia's hands, then in Adalia's for her to serve; we send for a refire, and they come back correct 7 minutes or so after I've already finished eating. Considering the hassle it took to get them, I couldn't trust it enough to eat, leading them to waste as well. After all was said and done, the GM Amer comes over to see how things were, and was thankfully helpful and understanding of our situation. Here's the rub: I was initially willing to overlook the steak, the home fries, and even the eggs if the error was properly ameliorated. Adalia and Amer both did very well, and I'm grateful for them for that; Elvia, on the other hand, managed to break the chain of competent customer service by directing the server to handle the problem in a way that was set up for failure (if you mess up an egg, it's an immediate refire because of how the egg cooks in the first place -- Amer also arrested to that policy) all without addressing us and taking accountability, due to negligence or whatever else. Not only that, but when sending the incorrect eggs over the second time, she couldn't even bring it to us herself--it would have been easy, seeing as she was the one that originally had them--and left Adalia and her tip to potentially take the fire if the patrons happen to be angry. Mistakes are fine--everyone makes them--but I'd describe this as cowardly more than anything else, and I take issue with that in particular from a leadership standpoint. While Amer graciously extended an invitation for a better experience next time, I can't say I'll be taking him up on the offer when their service and food are this misaligned; unfortunately, a disappointment overall.

A review post rescheduled event:…read more Overall, our guests were comfortable, the sound system was good, the room was clean and airy with high ceilings and needed minimal decorations. There was room for our food and sweets tables as well as for a small dance floor which was appropriate for our intimate event with close family and friends. As an event space, the sky tower room delivered all of the things we were looking for. ---------------------- The space was clean, easy to access from the Highway, there was street side parking for our guests as long as they arrived early. The general manager Shanita(?) was there cleaning from a prior event and greeted us at the door at 2pm. It was good that we started the event later (4pm) than our reservation started (2pm) because our DJ had to work with event staff and call the owner because our DJ was having trouble connecting to the system. We followed up with staff onsite to make sure we revived the ice, serving trays, and table linens that were included in our package. We decided not to follow up about using the projector/tv screens after being brushed off when we asked for the other included amenities, but there were two large flatscreen TVs behind the sound booth. There was another event happening at the same time in the smaller room next door and we could only hear them (and assume that they could also hear us) if the front doors were open. At one point a guest from the other party clogged one of the toilets so it was shut down. The site manager was there to direct people to the right room and to shut down the room that was out of service. We started cleanup at 8 pm and we did our best to clear the space of debris that was generated by our event. The contract was very specific about prohibited activities (IE: no tape. No confetti etc) so we wanted to be sure to keep up our end of the deal especially because some of our decorative balloons popped and made a mess. The manager came in at 9pm and let us know that she would handle the rest if we got our items out of the space. We (clearly) did not have the best time negotiating the terms of the rescheduled event especially when we wanted to switch event spaces. Beautiful site. Lovely amenities.

I had a 16th birthday party here recently. This venue gave me some red flags closer to my party…read moredate but I kept with them because I liked the blank canvas of the space. 1. The husband gave me a contract, but the wife tried adding new charges to the balance. 2. They charged me $450 for an extra hour at the venue 3. They broke down my party and turned on the lights one hour before the party was set to end, once they did that my guest assumed the party was over. it was not! 4, They price gouged every thing they offer so I had to outsource which made it more stressful an event to plan, i.e $5000 for a balloon backdrop and 10 modest center pieces. 5. They only want to be paid in cash @irs.gov 6. They insist on security, I thought that was great but their security guy wore a ski mask which was very intimidating to my guest, he wouldn't remove it. 6. They add 20 percent gratuity to the venue rental I asked why, They stated to cover the cleaning staff. I was ok with that except when I asked one for help he said no, he was standing on a carpet while I tried to fix it, he walked through the beginning of my kids entrance and the other asked us to move so he could clean I said we still have time here I paid for extra time he tried to square up with my sister! I literally paid $450 extra so these people could clean and mop while we were there?! I was quoted $3000 to rent the space, by the time they finished with their own inflation and add ons my bill was $7,130!! After going to different vendors to pickup things for the party turns out they have a reputation for all of these practices stated. STAY AWAY!!!! This was a once in a life time event for me and my family. They ruined it. I paid for 8 hours and essentially got a 3 hour party. I feel like they were sabotaging me. I did not fight or argue with them because karma will take care of itself. I've been so angry with these people for this being the memories I'll have of such a special occasion.
