We visited Renfro Valley Entertainment back in October for the Boxmasters. We had never been to the…read morevenue before, but it was easy to park, easy to obtain tickets, and, best of all, it was nonsmoking. Also, the restrooms were clean, and the drinks were responsible for the amount served. We have zero complaints. Plus, it's more of an up-close and personal experience with the bands, not like the 20k-seat venues.

For starters, this is not a 2nd amendment friendly venue. As a former law enforcement officer, that…read moremakes me very uncomfortable. This show hasn't even started yet and I'm sitting behind a couple who has been grossly overserved. They are both drunk and stupid. Security has done nothing about their obnoxious yelling and screaming. This is the first time I've been here and I was really hoping I had found a little hole in the wall venue where I could enjoy good country music. So far, the whole experience has been a waste of my time, money and civility. I'm ready to take matters into my own hands. I paid good money for these seats and now I have to put up with these jokers because security has done nothing, despite their bad behavior. Clearly, here at Renfro Valley their bar tenders are not trained to shut people off before they become belligerent drunks and their alcohol service means more to them than their paying customers here to enjoy a show. The concert was okay, but the acoustics are not great. It's an old venue, so on that point I give it some deference. Bathrooms were clean at the beginning of the night, but after a night of drunken revelry, they resembled something out of a third world country. It genuinely appears that alcohol sales are the driving force behind this place, not the music. Any positive that I might have shared here has been overshadowed by this establishment's inability to handle their business. Do NOT recommend! Won't be back. Reviews will be posted to multiple platforms.

Check their calendar and find a genre of music that appeals to you. Then you can buy tickets online or pay at the door. The shows are ten bucks, quite inexpensive for the experience you get. In its 18th year, Red Barn is produced by filmmaker Ed Commons, who has a fantastic eye/ear for upcoming talent. As the name suggests, it's a radio show, but it's also videotaped and aired live on FB and YouTube. Incredibly, last night was the show's 686th performance. Brad Becker, a musician himself, handles the MC duties and interviews the performers in between songs. His interview style is laid back and friendly and his interviews always add insight into the evening's entertainment Originally established in 1904 as a YMCA, in 1979 ArtsPlace, was founded after extensive renovations to 161 North Mill Street. It now functions as a music studio, performance space, and art gallery. As the show is broadcast live, there are a couple of things to keep in mind: * Try to arrive on time * Don't be surprised if you have cameras, tripods, and camera operators obscuring your view from time to time * Be enthusiastic with your applause, but keep your mouth shut while the performers are doing their thing. Red Barn Radio is largely an unknown Lexington treasure! Get out there and support it! Not sure about going? Check out Red Barn's YouTube site where they've archived hundreds of shows from the last 18 years.

I've said it at least a thousand times, if you're bored and can't find things to do in Lexington,…read moreyou're not looking too far. This Lakeside Live is another prime example. From May until September 30th, you can come to the Mall at Lexington Green and experience an outdoor concert with rotating lineups each Friday and Saturday. Palmers has a little setup selling beer near the stage area. Or you can enjoy bites and drinks on the patio of Palmers, but you choose to get drinks at Palmers, you can't bring them off of their property/patio. Jax, used to be a burger pub is located close to the stage area and is now only open on Friday and Saturday. They now only serve JRenders BBQ, with a limited and simple menu and drinks. Unlike Palmers, you can actually purchase drinks there and take them out to the seating/stage area. The hours are 7-10pm. We got there about 30 minutes early and already the parking lot at the bottom of The Mall was already full. Not to worry though, you can park up top at the front entrance of The Mall. There's a shuttle that runs up and down the hill between the two parking areas. We just walk through Joseph Beth Bookstore, which isn't a bad walk at all. They have some tables and seating areas, but your best bet is to bring your own lawn chairs. Don't forget to bring your dancing shoes too!

It's easy to get to, with plenty of parking options nearby (I recommend just scootering or ride sharing if you can), and they have multiple bars with fairly priced drinks. Tickets are never outrageously priced, which is a big plus. The venue itself is temperature controlled and comfortable, with a raised stage that gives good visibility no matter where you stand. If you're someone who likes to be up close and personal with the band/artist this is the spot for you. The only thing holding back a perfect rating is the acoustics, which are just okay in some spots. But the closer you get to the stage, the better the sound becomes. Video from the California Honeydrops show is living proof of that--it was easily the best show I've ever seen! Overall, it's a solid venue that delivers great experiences at an affordable price. Definitely worth checking out if one of your favorite bands is playing!
