Brought my child for an appointment after over a week of coughing, headache, and now sore throat, including yellow/green mucus. Dr. Haukness did not covid, strep, or flu test. Just sent us on our way and told us to check in in 5 more days if things hadn't gotten better. Told my child that her symptoms did not fit any of those. A wasted appointment, more missed days of school, and now an additional trip to an Urgent Care that WILL test as needed. After calling the office, I was told "That doctor does not generally test" and "Each doctor has their own way of doing things." Dr. Haukness is not our usual doctor there and we would never have gone to see her had we known in advance there was such a difference in care (which diverges from what most doctors do / recommend). Insult to injury: I'm sure we'll still be charged for this worthless visit. read more

I am so grateful for this practice. We moved to Oak Park in 2022. We were lucky to get one of our three daughters in because most of the practices in the area are full. I think we called at the right time. Our main provider, Dr. Turk, is awesome. She takes as much time as is needed, she is extremely caring and seems to understand our concerns perfectly. We love their setup regarding sick visits and urgent/non-urgent call system. Our youngest daughter is only six weeks old at the time of writing this review. Overall, she is healthy, but she did catch a virus and ended up hospitalized one night when she was four weeks old. We brought her in for a sick visit when the symptoms were minor and first presenting. I was so impressed that Dr. Turk called the very next day, after the visit, to check on our daughter's progress. The first symptoms were relatively minor (still scary in that young of a baby). Unfortunately, they worsened. However, the practice was so accommodating and took the initiative to continue contacting us once they were aware of the problem. Dr. Wegner saw us for the second sick visit and correctly advised us to bring her to Northwestern, where she was inpatient for a night. The practice was then very proactive in continuing to follow up with contacting us upon discharge to check in with how our baby was doing. I was extremely impressed and grateful for the care this practice provided, and continues to provide, to our family. read more

All the doctors there are fantastic. We normally see Dr. Turk. But we have seen the others for sick visits and they have been great. Kind empathetic, give the kids good advice about health and well beating. read more

SHAME ON YOU I have three children who are all patients of this office for years but today it came down to money!! I brought my sick little girl in. In the rush I forgot a mask. Upon entry I asked the front desk if I can please have one. I was told no, they are out of masks and that I would need to leave and go buy one. So back in the car with my kids down the block to buy a 20 cent mask. When we return and get in back to see the doctor boxes of masks everywhere! Today you put 20 cents ahead of my child's health. I would have left a quarter on the desk. Today you put money before the well being of child. Shame on you read more

We're not sure why Dr. Wagner ever became a pediatrician. She'd be much better suited as a mean villain in an 80's movie, really. Dr. Turk and Dr. Haukness could not be better - they are warm, sympathetic, knowledgeable, and great with kids - everything Dr. Wagner is not. Time for her to retire or move elsewhere, she's destroying a fine lil' practice. read more

Couldn't be happier with Pedios. Dr. Haukness is our amazing doctor, but every physician here is wonderful, very thorough, reassuring and patient. They all have excellent clinical skills. The front desk people are also cheerful and very helpful. Both of my daughters have been going there since birth, and they are now teenagers. So glad they grew up with Pedios! Thank you!! read more

Gave our kid 14 days of Amoxicillin. Apparently, this is only recommended max 10 days unless it's something bad and persistent. Guess what? Made my kid sicker than a dog. Don't go here. read more

The doctor on call never gets back to you in emergency situations. On one occasion my daughter had an allergic reaction to peanut butter that a doctor in their practice told us it was ok to give her at 1 year old, and it took over an hour for a doctor to call us back (after hounding the answering service). Thank goodness my husbands sister is a pediatrician and she instructed us to go to the ER. Tonight my daughter had a nasty accident and we thought she may have broken her arm and the doctor on call NEVER called us back!!! What a joke and you CANNOT count on this practice in emergency situations. Unless you have a doctor in the family that you can reference to I suggest that you look for another practice. On another note, we do like Dr. Wegner a lot and have found her to be very knowledgeable Be careful with the other two female doctors in this practice! read more

Dr Turk is our primary Dr but I've seen most of the doctors at this practice. First let me say that Dr Turk is an absolute gem of our community. I'm so happy she's our doctor and is in a position to help so many children. I can't say enough about how much we appreciate and love her. Anyway about the office. Always very punctual, accessible, patient and kind. Parking is easy, scheduling is easy even if your child is sick. Within a superior network that allows you accessibility to really excellent doctors for more advanced care if it's necessary. read more

I LOVEEEEE This office!!! My kids Dr.. (Wegner) Is Fantastic!! actually all of them are. My daughter has back pain and was seen by another Dr. She was Excellent as well! .. Dr. Claus is Really nice but comes off really reserved but hey! as long as we can get the job done! The staff has Always been amazing. If something is wrong with your child, they will fit you in and will not tell you to go elsewhere. I also love that Childrens Memorial Hospital Visits will automatically send your Visit information to Pedios.. Just an Amazing Experience that I've had with this office. I will hate to have to leave them when my kids get to old to come here. :( read more

I've been taking my kids here for years and have always loved everything about them. Today I had to call a few times to get appointments for the kids. The receptionists were extremely rude and short with me. I hope they get this resolved soon. read more

Dr. Haukness is amazing and has truly gone above and beyond for our family. Smart, great bedside manner, the whole package!!

I've had mixed experiences with this practice. I've had bad experiences with Drs. Claus and Wagner. But superb experiences with Drs. Haukness and Turk. I've found Drs. Claus and Wagner irritable, impatient and flat out wrong with diagnoses. In more than two cases, the poor advice landed us in the hospital or with unnecessary appointments with specialists. But I consider Drs. Haukness and Turk two of the best pediatricians I've seen. Both are warm and often draw on their experiences as moms. Another positive is that the practice has Saturday office hours. And all the nurses I've dealt with are experienced and have a calm, steady demeanor with even the most freaked out kids. read more

Much like other reviewers, my experience at Pedios has only been fair. Some general negatives: 1. Reception staff can be rude and dismissive over the phone and in person. 2. The lobby and patient rooms often seem dirty to me (and I'm no neat freak.) It's also really outdated in general. 3. Busy office with sometimes very long wait times. As for the doctors, I'm usually satisfied with Dr. Claus and Dr. Haukness. But I really try to avoid Dr. Wegner. She can be very condescending and dismissive, especially if you have an emergency and she's the on-call doctor. My son had a nasty fall on the concrete while running and hit his head hard enough to develop a huge welt and I was concerned about a concussion. Though he didn't seem to black out, he acted extremely strange afterwards with strange eyes that wouldn't focus. After waiting 35 minutes for a call back, she called - clearly annoyed (it happened on a Friday evening) - and asked what the problem was. When I told her what was wrong, she only snapped back, "Well, was he unconscious?" I said that he wasn't, but that he seemed to have trouble focusing, etc. She said that if he didn't black out or faint that I shouldn't worry. I mentioned that I have had three concussions and only by the third did I black out - to which she said, "If you're that worried, then just take him to the ER." I understand that we parents can be a little trying, but we need guidance and reassurance from the doctors that we entrust our kids to. I felt neither from her - I wouldn't have called if I felt like rushing to the ER was the right thing to do. She could have pointed out some key things to look for, told me in a gentle way that it's probably nothing to be too worried about, etc. Terrible bedside manner, and just plain terrible manners. With this said, I'm in the midst of looking for a new pediatrician. read more

My son was lactose intolerant and the doctors at Pedios failed to diagnose him correctly after three (3) visits. We said that he was throwing up constantly, he was crying even after we changed and fed him. We would feed him more not realizing that feeding him was actually causing the problem. On our third visit asking for help since we had not slept in days and we were desperate, our son was crying hysterically, they put us in an exam room and kept us there for one (1) hour! My son screamed the entire time, then I started to cry and finally the doctor came in and said, "My goodness, that screaming was this room?" This phrase after I asked the nurse repeatedly if they could get someone to help us. The worst was Heather Hawkness when she condescendingly told me on my second visit that all babies cried a lot. Contrast this to my brother's experience who just had a baby in Atlanta, GA. His pediatrician actually called him and his wife to check-in and see if everything was going ok. Wow, what I would have given for that level of service or to even get some attention rather than waiting in an exam room for an hour with a screaming baby. read more

Overall, I've been pleased with Pedios. Dr. Haukness is phenomenal, everytime, though perhaps ever-so-slightly superior in her tone sometimes--a small price to pay. Dr. Claus is great, though perhaps not as up-to-date as I might like on some topics. He is very good with my daughters however, and very experienced. Dr. Wegner was not helpful when I needed to take my daughter to the E.R. and it almost made me leave the practice. There's one other doctor there, whose name escapes me, but she was very good the one time we saw her. I like that they are all associated with Children's Hospital. The nurses: Two are very experienced and very helpful. The new young one doesn't know much yet, but she's nice and I just make sure not to deal with her on important matters. The receptionists are exceedingly busy but still friendly and helpful, and ALWAYS get me the same day when I need it, even if I think I don't need it. read more

Would have stayed if not for billing issue. Dr. Claus was friendly & knowledgeable, seemed a little outdated on his nutrition. Had a great experience when my daughter had some random symptoms...easy to get her seen, and the office -- nurses, doctors -- continued call and check up on her (esp. Dr. Haukness, who was recommended by almost everyone we talked to). We are most disappointed in the administration. They told us they accepted our insurance, but they were incorrect. With slow billing cycles we didn't realize this until about six months in, and the practice wasn't willing to work with us...we were charged everything. They said they had others like this...I want to make sure they know what's going on! read more

I was recently accepted into an insurance policy for my kids and was excited about being able to have my children come and see Dr Turk, because I have heard great things about her and Pedios. After I chose Dr Turk as my children's primary care provider on the insurance website, (from the 3 doctors that were listed from Pedios) I called to see what my next steps would be to change their records over. I was told, in a very rude manner, on the phone that the office is no longer accepting new patients with my insurance, even though it was clearly stated on the insurance website that they were taking new patients with my insurance. I would think that if you had decided to change your policy, the first thing you would do would be to notify the insurance company and have them take your doctors office off of their website. So aside from the rude treatment and the false advertising, I would make sure that you call first to make sure they take your insurance and hopefully you will be treated in a better manner than I was. read more

My experience there was pretty awful from the beginning. As others have pointed out: -Facility is dirty and unkept feeling. It appears as though there is no staff cleaning the waiting area. Exam rooms are in better shape, though. -Was talked down to by Dr. Wegner for asking a question about my child's diagnosis. -Dr. Claus is nice, but practicing medicine from 1970. -Nursing staff does most of the work... including giving us the results of a strep throat test for our son. Once the doctor leaves the exam room and the nurse comes in for shots/tests, don't expect to see the doctor back again. Finally, It all came to a head when I decided to transfer pediatricians and asked that my kids' records be copied. The reception staff failed to do it in the time frame promised (14 days, I think). When I called up and asked if I could pick up the copies, they said "No. Our copy machine is broken." I asked if I could borrow the records to copy myself and return them that same day and they said "No, we do not allow that." Finally, I got frustrated and told them that I had been waiting almost 3 weeks and that legally, they owed me copies. The office manager got on the phone and told me that they would have to copy the records in their FAX machine, and to come by later. When I did, they gave me illegible copies and then demanded a $10 copy fee. There are far better facilities with decent staff, and practitioners with better bedside manner out there. Avoid. read more

They always see my sick children on the same day which is awesome. my only hesitation in not giving them five stars is that they do not go above and beyond where they need to go for example, my daughter is special, no cognitive issues but has low muscle tone and needs to have some things done. I have to find out all the doctors on my own and get all the extra things for her on the outside done and find out about it on my own. not once did a doctor at pedios say, hey, she needs this or that and here is a place you can go to get that. not once did they ask if she is getting outside therapy or what is going on to help her become independent. they check her body and colds and give her her shots but besides the basic body, the muscle tone, whether she walks or not, or can use her arms, not important. ncm read more

I've been pretty happy with Pedios in the year since my daughter was born. They go out of their way to fit you in if something's wrong, which I really appreciate! Their staff is always helpful and the nurses especially are just terrific. However, I did switch doctors within the practice. When speaking with Dr. Wegner on an after-hours call, she was extremely brusque and dismissive. The issue may have seemed minor to her, but I'm a first-time parent and truly did not know the answer; I shouldn't be made to feel guilty for trying to do the right thing. We've switched to Dr. Turk and are very happy with the change. We've also seen Dr. Haukness and like her very much. read more

We've been using Pedios since my oldest (now 8-1/2) came home from the hospital after he was born. Dr. Claus is our favorite. When I was having breastfeeding issues, he worked with me, helped me try numerous things to get it to work (fenugreek, oatmeal, differeng holds, seeing a lactation consultant, etc, etc). He knew that I wanted to bf and it wasn't until we tried everything did he help me make the decision to use formula. That was something I truly love about him as a doctor. The nurses are extremely friendly and always helpful when I call. I've seen two of the other doctors and while they were proficient at their jobs, I wasn't too fond of their briskness. Dr. Claus always makes me feel like we can talk about anything. Unless we move out of the area, we'll be going to Dr. Claus until our kids are too old to go there. read more

My three year old has seen all of the doctors here, although Dr. Turk is her main physician. Everyone, from the front desk to the nurses and doctors, is very helpful and caring. I never have a problem getting in for an appointment when my daughter is sick. Highly recommend. read more

Love this pediatric practice! The reception area has toys to keep your little ones entertained while checking in, and the staff from the receptionists to the doctors are awesome! Have been bringing my children here for the past few years and with a crazy schedule have found they're always able to squeeze us in. The best part is that they have hours in the morning when you can call and speak to the Doctor directly regarding any concerns. After sick visits the doctors usually take the time to call and check in to see how your kids are doing which is pretty rare these days!!! Can't say enough good things about them! read more

After going to two other practices, I couldn't believe how different (in the best possible way) our experience was after just one appointment at Pedios. We saw Dr Turk who wanted to review my daughter's ENTIRE history. She asked so many Qs and was extremely thorough. Unlike other doctors, she really listened to me. I rarely leave reviews but was so impressed. read more

We love this practice. Mostly see Dr Haukness and would highly recommend. My son loves her and she's very relatable and practical. One of the best in OP and came highly recommended from close friends. read more

We have three children who've been seen by the fine doctors at Pedios from birth and we've only had good experiences. Dr. Haukness is our primary pediatrician, so we see her the most, but we've been very satisfied with the care we've received from the other three, too. We also love the staff and nurses, and have never had any billing issues. From the Christmas cards on the wall to the way the receptionists greet you, you really feel like you're part of the family here. read more

Dr. Turk has been fantastic. Very knowledgable and patient. She takes her time and makes me feel great about the visits.

Great doctors, nurses, and staff! They always get us in same day when our child is sick. And the daily phone hour is so helpful. The doctors never laugh at my questions no matter how ridiculous! Highly recommend. read more

Very disappointed in our visit today. Our attending physician was Donna Wegener. She came into the room like a Bull entering a china shop. She did not introduce herself, did not address our child my name. Was just very brusk and rude. She has no office or bedside manner. If you go to Pedios ask for ANYONE BUT her. You should treat others the way you wish to be treated. read more

These doctors are great. For a friend's child, they noticed a heart condition which required surgery before the child was a month old. Great practice. Good doctors. We've seen all the doctors many times over many years. read more

Dr. Haukness is wonderful. She removed the stitches from my 1st son (4yrs) very slowly and with great concern over whether he was in pain. Truly wonderful -- as he can be pretty intense. She also took her time with my 2 yr old for his yearly checkup and helped him feel pretty relaxed. I love the concern over the comfort of the child. Front desk was extremely kind and helpful in person and little annoyed sounding over the phone, so I dunno what that was all about...but I'd recommend this place to everyone. Great waiting area (clean and lots for kids to do). read more

Pedios is an excellent childrens practice: someone is always available when needed for advice, and it is easy to get an appointment. Many, many families in Oak Park send their children to Pedios from when they are Tiny to Teenagers and I never heard anyone complain, so I am a little surprised at the other reviews. read more

I've seen most of the pediatricians in this practice. It's run by Dr. Claus, who is an older guy that looks like Dick Van Dyke. He's really warm and friendly and great with kids. I have always tried to see him when I get appointments there. However, one time I brought in my 2nd infant and he didn't know that corn syrup was dangerous for babies under the age of 1. One of his nurses had recommended it for constipation, but it even says on the Karo Corn Syrup website not to use it for infants. Heather Hawkness is also a really friendly and warm pediatrician. Dr. Wegner, however, is the doctor I had an issue with. They have a number you can call at any hour to get the doctor on call. My oldest son had a really high fever once and I called the number around 9pm on a weekday night and got Dr. Wegner. She was clearly annoyed at the disturbance from the phone call, no attempt at all to hide the fact that she didn't feel like being on call. She asked me in a rude tone whether my son was even a patient of her's (just like that), and then she said it's just a fever, not a big deal, just give him tylenol and advil together, which sounded sort of strange to me. The fever was 104, which is really high. To tell a mother that something is "not a big deal" is pretty bad too in my opinion. When I questioned her for the use of two medications together she said "Whatever. It doesn't matter to me". I was pretty disturbed by her attitude and told Dr. Claus, who was extremely apologetic and told me he would talk to her about it. Nevertheless, that was my last visit with them. I want to be able to talk to a nice doctor when I need to make the emergency phone call. The office is very pleasant, I generally don't have trouble finding parking there, right in front, and I have never had to wait long to get into my appointment. I find the nurses really friendly, not so much the front desk staff though. They must have a lot of visits from Pharmaceutical reps, there are always tons and tons and tons of free samples of various baby things available. Although they were a little stingy with the formula. read more

We have been going to this practice for about 5 years now. I think they an extremely user friendly and responsive practice (I wish my internist's office was this easy to access for advice and appointments). Dr. Haukness is our main pediatrician, and I've been continually impressed with her bedside manner and interactions with our kids. read more

We brought our 2 month old in for first visit with Dr Wegner and she immediately correctly diagnosed him with rare and often missed diagnosis for a skull deformity. Dr Wegner's early diagnosis saved us much heartache and helped us get our son the treatment he needed as soon as possible. From researching our son's illness many, many pediatricians miss this diagnosis so we are thankful for Dr Wegner's skill and talents in assisting our child and highly recommend her for anyone looking for a pediatrician in oak park. read more

I am sad to write a negative review, however I think our experience is important to share. As a quick overview my husband and I found dr Hawkness condescending, unable to reassure us that things would improve, and EXTREMELY wrong when proving breastfeeding advice. (This practice must get formula commission noting the huge pike of formula on their front desk). Our story: We are exclusively breastfeeding and had a great latch and milk supply from the start. After meeting with dr Hawkness she changed us from on demand feedings to every 2-3 hours for 15 minutes per side and then pop a pacifier in her mouth and told us not to feed her again until 2 hours were up. (I have since consulted lactation professionals, la leche league and another pediatrician, and discovered that this had the unfortunate effect of dropping my milk supply). After implementing hawkness' feeding plan we discovered we were not gaining the weight Hawkness wanted to see so Hawkness put us on formula supplements and as she walked out the door said "we will try this before we take more extreme measures" and left. This had my husband and I feeling horrible and me like I was doing something very wrong. The next visit Hawkness said we were only slightly better on weight but because I'd started my period my body was shutting down and was done breast feeding. Again, I contacted other professionals and la leche league and they all stated Hawkness was incorrect. I'm happy to say that after dumping Hawkness, listening to other more up to date professionals and my mother my supply is back and my baby girl is gaining more weight then ever before! I would not send anyone to Hawkness, especially if they were breastfeeding. Other comments;': they've just remodeled and the office still looked dated. The front desk staff is frequently rude, distracted or simply not present. The office has a lot of dated toys as well. Very glad we switched to a fresh up to date pediatrician. Update to this: pedios billed us twice: once prior to billing insurance and once for the balance of what our insurance did not pay. So truly disappointed in this doctor's office in every way. read more

Love all the doctors here. My experience thus far has been very positive with all of them. Dr. Turk and Claus in particular are very thorough and patient during visits. The nurses are also wonderful. My only complaint is the administrative staff. There is one older woman who is extremely rude and difficult to deal with if you have an issue such as billing or scheduling. Very displeased that the office would hire and keep someone as rude as she is. read more

I'm very happy taking my kids to pedios. Unlike the other poster, i've called each of the doctors during their pre-opening morning hours or on call at some point, and have always found them to be very patient (even once when i could hear the doc's family singing happy birthday to one of her kids in the background!). all of the doctors are so patient and understanding with my kids, happy to talk me thorough all my questions at each visit, and always supportive and respectful of me and my kids. read more

Dr Turk is our primary doctor and she's wonderful. We have seen Dr Haukness who is also quite knowledgeable, but have had little experience with Dr Wagner. Dr Turk is patient and careful, and has a very reasonable and calm approach in her assessment of our children. The office staff is friendly, and always has room on the schedule for sick visits. They have a morning call-in to speak with the doctor directly for current patients and this service is highly valuable. The office nurse calls the following day to check in on kids who have been seen for a sick visit which really indicates a higher level of concern and involvement than a lot of pediatric practices. We are very grateful for this group! read more
